La rivolta della bandiera: gli incidenti per Trieste italiana del novembre 1953

L’autunno triestino  del 1953 è caratterizzato da una tensione che raggiunge livelli mai visti prima. Il 2 novembre il sindaco Gianni Bartoli chiede al generale Winterton l’autorizzazione per poter esporre la bandiera italiana sul pennone del Municipio in occasione delle celebrazioni della giornata del 4 novembre: intorno a quel tricolore issato alle sette di quel mattino e rimosso dopo 20 minuti per ordine del governo militare alleato angloamericano si scatenano i tre giorni di disordini che macchieranno di sangue Piazza San Giusto, ponendo la risoluzione della questione di  Trieste al centro dell’attenzione della diplomazia internazionale. The autumn of 1953 in Trieste is characterized by a level tension never experienced until then. On November 2, Mayor Gianni Bartoli asks General Winterton for the permission to wave the Italian flag on the City Hall during the November 4 celebrations: that flag, hoisted at 7am and removed 20 minutes later by order of the UK-US military government, sparked three days of riots that would end up in a bloodshed in Piazza San Giusto, thus putting the resolution of the question of Trieste on top of the agenda of international diplomacy

Il confine orientale italiano tra contesto internazionale e lotta politica: 1943-1953

The issues addressed in this thesis present one of the central themes in the Italian historiographical debate, especially on the link between national / international level and how it has interacted with the history of the second half of the twentieth century. In this context, however, it became necessary to consider the first the events related to the eastern border of Italian before 1945, as these are closely linked to subsequent developments in a cause / effect is very important in order to understand the dynamics of the period covered by the research. The purpose of this work is to investigate and study how this issue has been politically present in the debate of those parties which were protagonists in the first Republican era, such as the Italian Communist Party, the Christian Democrats and the Italian Social Movement, examining how have been formed their positions about the Italian eastern border question
