Programmable Electronic Delay Device for Detonator
Delay devices are used to perform various roles like aiding in sequential release of payload, providing safety in flight/ trajectory, enabling self-destruction of ammunitions, allowing blast of the warhead after penetration in runway/bunker, etc. The delay time is introduced to cause a series of detonation events from the explosive charge, in order to achieve desired efficiency. Inspite of many improvements performed along the years, in search of precise delay compositions, it is noticed that the obtained accuracy in chemical delay compositions is of ±4%.The present work using microcontroller gives possible accuracy of upto ±1%.This paper discusses about programmable electronic delay device, timing accuracy of electronic delay device and its merits over chemical delay devices.Defence Science Journal, 2013, 63(3), pp.305-307, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.63.288
Protective effect of Picrorhiza kurroa on Alzheimer’s disease induced by aluminium chloride in rats
Background: Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive deterioration together with declining activities of daily living and behavioural changes. The present work is aimed to investigate the effect of methanolic extract of rhizomes of Picrorhiza kurroa against aluminum chloride induced Alzheimer’s disease. Methods: Wistar rats were selected in this study and were divided into 5 groups (6 each). Group I served as normal control. Group II received aluminum chloride (300mg/kg, P.O.). Group III and IV received ethanolic extract of Picrorhiza kurroa (200mg/kg, 400mg/kg, P.O. respectively) and inducing agent (AlCl3 300mg/kg, P.O.). Group V received rivastigmine (0.3mg/kg, I.P.) and inducing agent (AlCl3 300mg/kg, P.O.). The rats were given respective treatment for 20 days and behavioural parameters were determined on 20th day. After 20th day rats were sacrificed and anti-oxidant parameters, brain acetylcholinesterase content were determined. Results: Oral administration of ethanolic extract of Picrorhiza kurroa at doses 200, 400mg/kg body weight showed improve in behavioural parameters when compared to AlCl3 induced rats, showed increase in superoxide dismutase, catalase, reduced glutathione and decreased levels of malondialdehyde and showed decrease in brain acetylcholinesterase content when compared to AlCl3 induced rats. Conclusions: The study clearly demonstrated the beneficial effects of Picrorhiza kurroa by improving biochemical and behavioural parameters
A modified sensitive palladium-copper oxide and multiwalled carbon nanotubes electrochemical sensor for detection of ametridione pesticide
Glassy carbon electrode modified sensitive Pd-CuO/MWCNTs electrochemical nanosensor was used for detection of ametridione pesticide in water samples. The morphology characteristics of Pd-CuO/MWCNTs are examined by scanning electron microscopy and EDX. The ametridione pesticide under voltammetric investigation involves irreversible, 4e? electron reduction based on the protonation of the two carbonyl groups (>C=O). The voltammetric method was applied for the detection of ametridione in BR buffer solution at pH 5.0 as a supporting electrolyte. The detection limit, limit of quantification and concentration ranges of the proposed method were 0.0796 ?g?mL?1 (signal/noise=3), 0.5560 ?g?mL?1 and 0.1 to 10.0 ?g?mL?1, respectively. The electrochemical sensor was successfully applied for the detection of ametridione in tap, agricultural run-off and river water samples showing >98% mean recoveries.

Origin of Quasi-Periodic Pulsation at the Base of Kink Unstable Jet
We study a blowout jet that occurs at the west limb of the Sun on August
29, 2014 using high-resolution imaging/spectroscopic observations
provided by SDO/AIA and IRIS. An inverse -shape flux-rope appears
before the jet{--} morphological indication of the onset of kink instability.
The twisted field lines of kink-unstable flux-rope reconnect at its bright knot
and launch the blowout jet at 06:30:43 UT with an average speed of 234
km s. Just after the launch, the northern leg of the flux rope erupts
completely. The time-distance diagrams show multiple spikes or bright dots,
which is the result of periodic fluctuations, i.e., quasi-periodic fluctuations
(QPPs). The wavelet analysis confirms that QPPs have a dominant period of
03 minutes. IRIS spectra (Si~{\sc iv}, C~{\sc ii}, and Mg~{\sc ii})
may also indicate the occurrence of magnetic reconnection through existence of
broad complex profiles and bi-directional flows in the jet. Further, we
have found that line broadening is periodic with a period of 03
minutes, and plasma upflow is always occurs when the line width is high, i.e.,
multiple reconnection may produce periodic line broadening. The EM curves also
show the same period of 03 minutes in different temperature bins. The
images and EM show that this jets spire is mainly cool
(chromospheric/transition region) rather than hot (coronal) material. Further,
line broadening, intensity, and EM curves have a period of 03 minutes,
which strongly supports that multiple magnetic reconnection triggers QPPs in
the blowout jet.Comment: The Astrophysical Journal (In press), 25 pages, 12 figure
SYNTHESIS, MOLECULAR BIOINFORMATICS MODELLING, AND ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION OF SOME NOVEL OXADIAZOLE FLUOROQUINOLONE DERIVATIVES
Objective: The present study envisages a series of oxadiazole fluoroquinolone derivatives that were synthesized (D1–D12) with added derivatives such as phenyl, aminophenyl, amino hydroxyphenyl along with cyclopropyl, ethyl, piperazine, and imidazole.
Methods: All of the newly produced molecules were characterized by infrared, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis technique and screened for docking stimulation to find out binding modes of synthesized derivatives with 3FV5, 5IMW, and 5ESE and evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity.
Results: From this study, it was found that the compound D8 showed good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus), compound D9 showed good antibacterial activity against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli), and compound D3 showed good antifungal activity against fungi (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in comparison with standard drugs (Ciprofloxacin and fluconazole). The zone of inhibition and minimum inhibitory concentration studies was performed on synthesized compounds.
Conclusion: The analogs of oxadiazole flouroquinolone are suggested to be potent inhibitors with sufficient scope for further exploration
A Study on influence of organic ligands on migration of heavy metals through compacted clayey soil
This paper presents the feasibility study on utilization of locally available clayey soil as Compacted Clay Liner based on its contaminant migration capacity under the presence of organic chemical EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra acetic Acid) which is abundantly released into the environment. Lead, Nickel, cadmium and chromium ions was selected as contaminants and its migration properties are assessed by conducting column studies with a single and multiple heavy metal solution with the EDTA. From the experimental investigations, it is revealed that with the presence of EDTA, the contaminant breakthrough time get reduced due to soluble metal – EDTA complex formation. At pH 2, interaction with multi metal, the mobility was increased and the order of mobility was observed as Cr > Cd > Ni > Pb. With the presence of EDTA in multi metal system at pH 2, the order of the mobility was Cr > Ni > Cd > Pb and at pH 7 the mobility of heavy metals were increased the order was Cr > NI > Pb > Cd. This study reveals that locally available clayey soil is capable of retaining heavy metals and it may be used as a compacted clay liner, where organic chemical like (EDTA) ingression is present
