This research analysis was led to recognize the attributes and effect of two different generations, mainly X and Y work values, attitude and behaviour and interpersonal skills on the organizational commitment in work force that as of now involve the Malaysian manufacturing industry. As demonstrated by different dependable sources, Generation X and Generation Y employees, who are portrayed as current generation employees, are said to have recognize obligation to remain with a similar organization. High employee turnover rate has become a significant issue that should be tended to. This analysis plans to distinguish the determinants and elements of Generation X and Generation Y employees 'organizational commitment in Malaysian manufacturing industry. In particular, the analysis surveyed the effect of independent factors (Generational cohort, work values, attitude and behaviour and interpersonal skills) on dependent variable (organizational commitment). In this analysis additionally, the relationship of gender and educational level to organizational commitment of Generation X and Generation Y workforce have been inspected

The 4IR has influenced learners in many ways and one of them is the ability to learn collectively and from each other. A large number of students have resorted to learning individually without considering the benefits of studying in groups. The purpose of this study was to examine learners’ usage of direct and indirect learning strategies when they interacted in group discussions. It added to the present degree of knowledge and understandings pertaining to the principle behind an effective group work and learning strategies in higher institutions and is centred on students’ involvements in group work that included acquiring knowledge in groups. The participants for this study comprised of students from selected English proficiency courses. They responded to a survey, and the data from the survey was then analysed using the SPSS. The result shows that students were able to develop knowledge on various content-based topics and they have also learnt to interact and improve their social skills using direct and indirect learning strategies in group work activities. The activities in the ESL classrooms incorporated group work for maximum group and social interaction. The findings for this study show positive implications for group interactions in the ESL classroom

Gendered-Linked Differences in Speech Styles: Analysing Linguistic and Gender in the Malaysian Context

This study aims to look at the differences in speech styles of Malaysian men and women. The assertion that women and men typically employ different linguistic style is pursued in a wide range of studies. There is significant interest in the sociolinguistic variation associated with the speaker’s gender. Over the last few years there has been an explosion of research in this field. Research conducted to date in anthropology and education clearly states that gender-specific patterns of behavior remain relevant factors and important social variables to be analyzed through the most common cultural codes of society, which is its language. Turning to linguistic differences between women and men, there do seem to be linguistic features that are stereotypically associated with men and women, and there is a large measure of agreement about the association of such features with one of the other gender. Gender is the term used to describe socially constructed categories based on sex. Most societies operate in terms of two genders, masculine and feminine, and it is tempting to treat the category of gender as a simple binary opposition. This paper limits itself to describe language use, in particular the different usage of women and men as speakers. Particular attention is given to the usage of five linguistic features; questions, hedges, adjectives, verbosity and politeness. Subsequent discussion of language of women and men will be presented in sociolinguistic terms.

Enhancing ESL Writing Creativity via a Literature Based Language Instruction

The notions of success in learning writing in English is associated with self-expressions, the flow of ideas, outsider expectations, growing confidence and enjoyment of L2 academic writing. The most common problem that confronts teachers of a writing class does not lie so much on what to ask the students to write about; the difficulty is more on motivating the students to write interesting and effective materials or in other words, creative pieces of essays. What constitutes and contributes to language creativity in writing? This paper discusses the results of a quasi-experiment in which a literature – based language instruction was incorporated in an ESL writing class to evaluate the language creativity of students’ essays. Descriptive and inferential statistics show that a literature based language instruction can help students develop creativity in classroom writing.Key words:  literature based language instruction; creativity and language creativit

Association between Ocular Pseudoexfoliation and Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Background. Our study aimed to investigate an association between ocular pseudoexfoliation (PXF) and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and to compare them with age and sex matched controls without pseudoexfoliation. Method. This was a case-control study of 123 patients which included 68 cases with PXF (at least one eye) and 55 controls without pseudoexfoliation. Pure-tone audiometry (PTA) was done for these patients at sound frequencies taken as important for speech comprehension, that is, 250 Hertz (Hz), 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. Results. There were 41 patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXE) and 27 with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PXEG). The majority of patients with hearing loss (60%; n=51) were PXF patients and the remaining 40% (n=34) were controls. Below average hearing thresholds were significantly higher in the pseudoexfoliation group compared to the control group (P=0.01; odds ratio (OR), 3.00; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.25–7.19). However, there was no significant difference in the mean hearing threshold levels between the three groups (PXE, PXEG, and controls) in either ear (ANOVA, right ear: P=0.46 and left ear P=0.36). Conclusion. Our study found an association between PXF and SNHL, confirming that PXF can involve organs in the body other than the eye

Synthetic red supergiant explosion model grid for systematic characterization of Type II supernovae

A new model grid containing 228,016 synthetic red supergiant explosions (Type II supernovae) is introduced. Time evolution of spectral energy distributions from 1 A to 50,000 A (100 frequency bins in a log scale) is computed at each time step up to 500 days after explosion in each model. We provide light curves for the filters of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), Sloan Digital Sky Servey (SDSS), and the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, but light curves for any photometric filters can be constructed by convolving any filter response functions to the synthetic spectral energy distributions. We also provide bolometric light curves and photosphere information such as photospheric velocity evolution. The parameter space covered by the model grid is five progenitor masses (10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 Msun at the zero-age main sequence, solar metallicity), ten explosion energies (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 x 10^51 erg), nine 56Ni masses (0.001, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 Msun), nine mass-loss rates (1e-5.0, 1e-4.5, 1e-4.0, 1e-3.5, 1e-3.0, 1e-2.5, 1e-2.0, 1e-1.5, and 1e-1.0 Msun/yr with a wind velocity of 10 km/s), six circumstellar matter radii (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 x 10^14 cm), and ten circumstellar structures (beta = 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0). 56Ni is assumed to be uniformly mixed up to the half mass of a hydrogen-rich envelope. This model grid can be a base for rapid characterizations of Type II supernovae with sparse photometric sampling expected in LSST through a Bayesian approach, for example. The model grid is available at https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.pnvx0k6sj.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, 2 tables, data available at https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.pnvx0k6s
