Network support for integrated design
A framework of network support for utilization of integrated design over the Internet has been developed. The techniques presented also applicable for Intranet/Extranet. The integrated design system was initially developed for local application in a single site. With the network support, geographically dispersed designers can collaborate a design task through out the total design process, quickly respond to clientsâ requests and enhance the design argilty. In this paper, after a brief introduction of the integrated design system, the network support framework is presented, followed by description of two key techniques involved: Java Saverlet approach for remotely executing a large program and online CAD collaboration
Understanding and Specifying Information Security Needs to Support the Delivery of High Quality Security Services
In this paper we present an approach for specifying and prioritizing information security requirements in organizations. It is important to prioritize security requirements since hundred per cent security is\ud
not achievable and the limited resources available should be directed to satisfy the most important ones. We propose to explicitly link security requirements with the organizationâs business vision, i.e. to provide business\ud
rationale for security requirements. The rationale is then used as a basis for comparing the importance of different security requirements.\ud
Furthermore we discuss how to integrate the aforementioned solution concepts into a service level management process for security services, which is an important step in IT Governance. We validate our approach by way of a focus group session

A conditional quantum phase gate between two 3-state atoms
We propose a scheme for conditional quantum logic between two 3-state atoms
that share a quantum data-bus such as a single mode optical field in cavity QED
systems, or a collective vibrational state of trapped ions. Making use of
quantum interference, our scheme achieves successful conditional phase
evolution without any real transitions of atomic internal states or populating
the quantum data-bus. In addition, it only requires common addressing of the
two atoms by external laser fields.Comment: 8 fig
Fermi gas in harmonic oscillator potentials
Assuming the validity of grand canonical statistics, we study the properties
of a spin-polarized Fermi gas in harmonic traps. Universal forms of Fermi
temperature , internal energy and the specific heat per particle of
the trapped Fermi gas are calculated as a {\it function} of particle number,
and the results compared with those of infinite number particles.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, LATE
Motion state recognition of debris ejected in vehicular collision after contact with the ground
The motion state of debris ejected from the vehicle involved in vehicular collision is important for finding out the vehicle collision speed. This research developed an analytical model to recognise the debris motion state. With the model, analyses were conducted, which reveal that if α, which is the contact angle between the debris and the ground at the moment when the debris collides the ground, is within the range from 0° to its boundary value, then the debris slides; if α is within the range from its boundary value to 90°, then the debris bounces. With debris' initial angular velocity Ï = 0, the boundary value is 11.8° for sphere debris and 7.8° for rectangular debris; with Ï â 0, the boundary value for rectangular debris is arcsin(g/RÏ2) where g represents the acceleration due to gravity and R is the distance from the debris centre to the point of its contact with the ground. Experiment tests were conducted for debris motion states with Ï = 0, which confirmed the analytical results
Ligation of protease-activated receptor 1 enhances alpha(v)beta(6) integrin-dependent TGF-beta activation and promotes acute lung injury
Activation of latent TGF-beta by the alpha(v)beta(6) integrin is a critical step in the development of acute lung injury. However, the mechanism by which a alpha(v)beta(6)-mediated TGF-beta activation is regulated has not been identified. We show that thrombin, and other agonists of protease-activated receptor 1(PAR1), activate TGF-beta in an alpha(v)beta(6) integrin-specific manner. This effect is PART specific and is mediated by RhoA and Rho kinase. Intratracheal instillation of the PART-specific peptide TFLLRN increases lung edema during high-tidal-volume ventilation, and this effect is completely inhibited by a blocking antibody against the alpha(v)beta(6) integrin. Instillation of TFLLRN during high-tidal-volume ventilation is associated with increased pulmonary TGF-beta activation; however, this is not observed in Itgb6(-/-) mice. Furthermore, Itgb6(-/-) mice are also protected from ventilator-induced lung edema. We also demonstrate that pulmonary edema and TGF-beta activity are similarly reduced in Par1(-/-) mice following bleomycin-induced lung injury. These results suggest that PART-mediated enhancement of a alpha(v)beta(6)-dependent TGF-beta activation could be one mechanism by which activation of the coagulation cascade contributes to the development of acute lung injury, and they identify PART and the alpha(v)beta(6) integrin as potential therapeutic targets in this condition
Lie bialgebras of generalized Witt type
In a paper by Michaelis a class of infinite-dimensional Lie bialgebras
containing the Virasoro algebra was presented. This type of Lie bialgebras was
classified by Ng and Taft. In this paper, all Lie bialgebra structures on the
Lie algebras of generalized Witt type are classified. It is proved that, for
any Lie algebra of generalized Witt type, all Lie bialgebras on are
coboundary triangular Lie bialgebras. As a by-product, it is also proved that
the first cohomology group is trivial.Comment: 14 page
