Analysis of fusion-fission dynamics by pre-scission neutron emission in Ni+Pb
We analyzed the experimental data of the pre-scission neutron multiplicity in
connection with fission fragments in the reaction Ni+Pb at the
incident energy corresponding to the excitation energy of compound nucleus
=185.9 MeV, which was performed by D\'{e}MoN group. The relation between
the pre-scission neutron multiplicity and each reaction process having
different reaction time is investigated. In order to study the fusion-fission
process accompanied by neutron emission, the fluctuation-dissipation model
combined with a statistical model is employed. It is found that the
fusion-fission process and the quasi-fission process are clearly distinguished
in correlation with the pre-scission neutron multiplicity.Comment: 11 figure
Structure of 12Be: intruder d-wave strength at N=8
The breaking of the N=8 shell-model magic number in the 12Be ground state has
been determined to include significant occupancy of the intruder d-wave
orbital. This is in marked contrast with all other N=8 isotones, both more and
less exotic than 12Be. The occupancies of the 0 hbar omega neutron p1/2-orbital
and the 1 hbar omega, neutron d5/2 intruder orbital were deduced from a
measurement of neutron removal from a high-energy 12Be beam leading to bound
and unbound states in 11Be.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Breakup Conditions of Projectile Spectators from Dynamical Observables
Momenta and masses of heavy projectile fragments (Z >= 8), produced in
collisions of 197Au with C, Al, Cu and Pb targets at E/A = 600 MeV, were
determined with the ALADIN magnetic spectrometer at SIS. An analysis of
kinematic correlations between the two and three heaviest projectile fragments
in their rest frame was performed. The sensitivity of these correlations to the
conditions at breakup was verified within the schematic SOS-model. The data
were compared to calculations with statistical multifragmentation models and to
classical three-body calculations. Classical trajectory calculations reproduce
the dynamical observables. The deduced breakup parameters, however, differ
considerably from those assumed in the statistical multifragmentation models
which describe the charge correlations. If, on the other hand, the analysis of
kinematic and charge correlations is performed for events with two and three
heavy fragments produced by statistical multifragmentation codes, a good
agreement with the data is found with the exception that the fluctuation widths
of the intrinsic fragment energies are significantly underestimated. A new
version of the multifragmentation code MCFRAG was therefore used to investigate
the potential role of angular momentum at the breakup stage. If a mean angular
momentum of 0.75/nucleon is added to the system, the energy fluctuations
can be reproduced, but at the same time the charge partitions are modified and
deviate from the data.

B(E1) Strengths from Coulomb Excitation of 11Be
The (E1;) strength for Be has been extracted from
intermediate energy Coulomb excitation measurements, over a range of beam
energies using a new reaction model, the extended continuum discretized coupled
channels (XCDCC) method. In addition, a measurement of the excitation cross
section for Be+Pb at 38.6 MeV/nucleon is reported. The (E1)
strength of 0.105(12) efm derived from this measurement is consistent
with those made previously at 60 and 64 MeV/nucleon, i n contrast to an
anomalously low result obtained at 43 MeV/nucleon. By coupling a
multi-configuration description of the projectile structure with realistic
reaction theory, the XCDCC model provides for the first time a fully quantum
mechanical description of Coulomb excitation. The XCDCC calculations reveal
that the excitation process involves significant contributions from nuclear,
continuum, and higher-order effects. An analysis of the present and two earlier
intermediate energy measurements yields a combined B(E1) strength of 0.105(7)
efm. This value is in good agreement with the value deduced
independently from the lifetime of the state in Be, and has a
comparable p recision.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Lett.
12C nuclear reaction measurements for hadrontherapy
International audienceHadrontherapy treatments require a very high precision on the dose deposition ( 2.5% and 1-2mm) in order to keep the benefits of the precise ions' ballistic. The largest uncertainty on the physical dose deposition is due to ion fragmentation. Up to now, the simulation codes are not able to reproduce the fragmentation process with the required precision. To constraint the nuclear models and complete fragmentation cross sections databases; our collaboration has performed an experiment on May 2008 at GANIL with a 95 MeV/u 12C beam. We have measured the fluence, energy and angular distributions of charged fragments and neutrons coming from nuclear reactions of incident 12C on thick water-like PMMA targets. Preliminary comparisons between GEANT4 (G4BinaryLightIonReaction) simulations and experimental data show huge discrepancies
Three-body correlations in Borromean halo nuclei
Three-body correlations in the dissociation of two-neutron halo nuclei are
explored using a technique based on intensity interferometry and Dalitz plots.
This provides for the combined treatment of both the n-n and core-n
interactions in the exit channel. As an example, the breakup of 14Be into
12Be+n+n by Pb and C targets has been analysed and the halo n-n separation
extracted. A finite delay between the emission of the neutrons in the reaction
on the C target was observed and is attributed to 13Be resonances populated in
sequential breakup.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
Spallation Neutron Production by 0.8, 1.2 and 1.6 GeV Protons on various Targets
Spallation neutron production in proton induced reactions on Al, Fe, Zr, W,
Pb and Th targets at 1.2 GeV and on Fe and Pb at 0.8, and 1.6 GeV measured at
the SATURNE accelerator in Saclay is reported. The experimental
double-differential cross-sections are compared with calculations performed
with different intra-nuclear cascade models implemented in high energy
transport codes. The broad angular coverage also allowed the determination of
average neutron multiplicities above 2 MeV. Deficiencies in some of the models
commonly used for applications are pointed out.Comment: 20 pages, 32 figures, revised version, accepted fpr publication in

Spectroscopic study of sub-barrier quasi-elastic nuclear reactions
The technique developed in this paper is particularly well suited to the detailed spectroscopic study of low energy quasi-elastic nuclear reactions and by overcoming the limitations of conventional procedure, the prospect of detailed studies of inclusive reaction mechanism may be realised. With only limited statistics we find evidence for strong multistep character in the transfer of a single nucleon from spherical vibrational target to spherical projectile nuclei. The suggestive measurements reported here may be made definitive through extended runs based on this technique and experiments planned for the future offer the real prospect of developing a quantified interpretation of the reaction process. 9 refs. 5 figs
