THE CHALLENGES OF THE MODERN CITY IN THE ERA OF MAJOR MIGRATION PROCESSES

The beginning of the new millennium is recognizable by the fact that the states, especially from the European continent, endeavor to adapt to the imposed problems associated with mass migrations. Economic poverty, wars and forced migration encourage the migration process, and cities, especially megalopolises, are their final destination. The war in Syria and the global economic crisis in 2015 spurred the European migrant crisis. In this context, the EU has failed to fully find the right solution for their distribution and integration in the new environment. We should seek for the answer in the models of multiculturalism, interculturalism and cosmopolitanism. The enormous influx of immigrants represents a threat of changing socio-cultural identities primarily to the western developed societies, where xenophobic outbursts are more frequent. Changes in the demographic composition caused by migration are most intensely felt in the urban area. In this context, each state is guided by political decisions within national interests, which often encounter difficulties by the international public. Without doubt, migration policy, as well as media coverage, contribute to this plan. Any major migration causes a cultural shock in the domicile population. The increase of the population in the city, especially when it significantly exceeds the capacities, brings with it problems in the urban area, the labor market, ecology and its pollution

Effects of Liquidity on Idiosyncratic Risk

Abstract In this thesis we examine the link between idiosyncratic risk and liquidity on a sample of European equity covering the last 15 years and consisting of monthly retuns on 120 stocks. This thesis builds heavily upon an article by Speigel and Wang (2005), which demonstrates the relationship between risk and various liquidity measures on the US market. In this study idiosyncratic risk is indirectly estimated and extracted by running OLS regressions on a Fama French Three Factor Model, and once more directly by a EGARCH(1,1) model. The liquidity measures are obtained from a working paper by Lubeck and Sarr (2002). Liquidity in equity is approximated by the variables; Turnover rate, the Amivest ratio and its reciprocal the Amihud ratio. We conclude our research by constructing dynamic portfolios based on the variables risk, liquidity and size which are sorted by quintiles in order to control for the variables corresponding effect on returns

The Authentic ‘’V’’ Flap for Surgical Endodontic Treatment of Periapical Chronic Diseases

The aim of this study was to present and evaluate the authentic “V” shaped flap for surgical endodontic treatment of periapical chronic diseases. The study included 55 patients in good general health, referred to the department of oral surgery for surgical endodontic treatment of maxillary teeth. “V’’ shaped flap was used in all cases. The surgical technique was described. The surgical sites were assessed at several points in time. Our intraoperative and postoperative clinical findings regarding the implementation of the vestibular “V’’ flap in surgical treatment of periapical chronic diseases, have confirmed its individuality. It was easy to perform the procedure which enabled atraumatic retraction with abundant blood supply and repositioning with a few stitches. Even without premedication, the following day 65.4% of the patients experienced no pain, and mild swelling of the surgical site was evident in all cases. The healing was complete, without any signs of tissue retraction and dehiscence
