The present article refers to a doctoral research concluded in 2007. Brazilian press stories were analyzed, having as a point of reference the Amazonia in two moments of Brazilian history: dictatorship and democracy. The thesis included the mediation analysis to relate the myths and the written production on Amazonia. For this purpose we used the contributions of the Theory of Social Communication, the Mediation Paradigm, with the help of the structuralist methodology and tools of logical and statistical analysis

Toxicity of cadmium on the germination of thyme seeds

The accumulation of toxic metals (e.g., cadmium) in soil and water, and consequently in the food chain, is a concern in agriculture production due to the adverse effects of these metals on food quality and crop growth, as well as the potential harm they pose to humans and other animals. The objective of this work was to assess the toxicity of cadmium (Cd) on seed germination and initial growth of thyme. The ecotoxicological effects of four Cd concentrations (15; 30; 45; and 60 mg L-1) were evaluated. The response variables were germination percentage, first count, germination speed index, total length, shoot length, root length, seedling dry mass, and tolerance index. The study found that thyme seeds exposed to 60 mg L-1 of cadmium had a lower percentage of normal plants, a 13% reduction in seed germination, and a 65% increase in abnormal plants. The Cd had an inhibitory effect on the initial growth of the seedlings by affecting the development of the roots and aerial part. It is concluded that the presence and accumulation of Cd in the cultivation substrate reduced seed germination and initial seedling growth of thyme, and that the intensity of inhibition was directly proportional to the concentration of Cd in the solutions employed

From endomorphisms to bi-skew braces, regular subgroups, the Yang--Baxter equation, and Hopf--Galois structures

The interplay between set-theoretic solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation of Mathematical Physics, skew braces, regular subgroups, and Hopf--Galois structures has spawned a considerable body of literature in recent years. In a recent paper, Alan Koch generalised a construction of Lindsay N.~Childs, showing how one can obtain bi-skew braces (G,,)(G, \cdot, \circ) from an endomorphism of a group (G,)(G, \cdot) whose image is abelian. In this paper, we characterise the endomorphisms of a group (G,)(G, \cdot) for which Koch's construction, and a variation on it, yield (bi-)skew braces. We show how the set-theoretic solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation derived by Koch's construction carry over to our more general situation, and discuss the related Hopf--Galois structures.Comment: v1 of this manuscript has been split in two. The first part has appeared in J. Algebra 587 (2021), 462-487, and carries a slightly revised title - it is v2 here (19 pages). The second part is now arXiv:2110.1102

A study of biphasic models to represent the viscous mechanical behavior of tendons

In this work is presented a study ofthecapabilityto represent the viscous mechanical behavior of tendonsusingtwo biphasic models. Poroelastic and poroviscoelastic models were implemented in to a finite element framework, and numerical tests were performed. Also,it is presenteda numerical-experimental characterization of the biphasic models, using transversal isotropy for the solid phase. The results shownthat the PE model is highly dependent on the Poisson’s ratio of the solid matrix, and it is capable of reproducing viscous effects only when high compressibility of the tissue arises. Both models can reproduceexperimental results of a cyclic test using a porcine flexor tendon specimen submerged in water, where the poroviscoelastic model performed better due to the inclusion of the viscosity on the solid phase. However, the poroelastic model was capable of reproducing the experimental observation only when itis assumed Poisson’s ratio close to zero, which could represent a physical violation of the incompressibility assumption commonly used in literature
