Meta-Analysis of Asian Studentsā€™ Acculturative Stress in U.S. Higher Education

Most studies examining acculturative stress have found that students of Asian decent experience higher levels of acculturative stress in American higher education institutions than do students of European decent, but effect sizes have ranged widely, and the results of comparisons between Asians and other ethnic groups are inconsistent. To obtain estimates of the magnitude of cultural group differences in acculturative stress, meta-analyses were conducted. Meta-analytic review of 13 studies exploring Asian studentsā€™ acculturative stress in higher education during the past two decades revealed that students of Asian decent experienced a higher level of acculturative stress when compared to students of Hispanic decent (g = 0.33) and students of European decent (g = 0.76), but there was no significant difference between Asian and African students (p \u3e .05). This study supported evidence for Asian studentsā€™ acculturative stress and the need for further research on this educational issue

Acupressure on Zusanli (St36) and Taibai (Sp3) in Reducing Nausea for Patients with Dyspepsia at Banyumas Hospital

Background: Nausea is unpleasant sensation behind the throat and epigastrium often causing vomiting. Nausea is a major symptom in patients with dyspepsia. Typical treatments for nausea are antiemetic drugs and non-pharmacological therapy. Acupressure is a massage with finger to give stimulus at a particular point on the surface of the body. Acupressure on hand could reduce nausea in pregnant women. Purpose: The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of acupressure in reducing nausea for patients with dyspepsia at Banyumas hospital. Method: This research was quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The consecutive sampling technique was employed in this research with 30 subjects, 15 subjects in control and 15 subjects in intervention. In the control group received standard antiemetic drug and routine care. The intervention group was treated with acupressure Zusanli (ST 36) and Taibai (SP 3) for 30 minutes for both legs and received antiemetic drugs. Nausea was measured by Numerical Rating scale for Nausea. Data were analyzed with paired samples test and Mann Withney-U. Results: The findings show that acupressure Zusanli (ST 36) and Taibai (SP 3) for 30 minutes significantly reduced nausea in patients with dyspepsia in the intervention group (t=7.91, p=0.00) and between group (z=-2.884, p=0.01)

Dynamic Change Evaluation for Ontology Evolution in the Semantic Web

    No full text
Changes in an ontology may have a disruptive impact on any system using it. This impact may depend on structural changes such as introduction or removal of concept definitions, or it may be related to a change in the expected performance of the reasoning tasks. As the number of systems using ontologies is expected to increase, and given the open nature of the Semantic Web, introduction of new ontologies and modifications to existing ones are to be expected. Dynamically handling such changes, without requiring human intervention, becomes crucial. This paper presents a framework that isolates groups of related axioms in an OWL ontology, so that a change in one or more axioms can be automatically localised to a part of the ontology

Using Description Logics for RDF Constraint Checking and Closed-World Recognition

RDF and Description Logics work in an open-world setting where absence of information is not information about absence. Nevertheless, Description Logic axioms can be interpreted in a closed-world setting and in this setting they can be used for both constraint checking and closed-world recognition against information sources. When the information sources are expressed in well-behaved RDF or RDFS (i.e., RDF graphs interpreted in the RDF or RDFS semantics) this constraint checking and closed-world recognition is simple to describe. Further this constraint checking can be implemented as SPARQL querying and thus effectively performed.Comment: Extended version of a paper of the same name that will appear in AAAI-201
