Effect of residual extensibility of polyester filament yarn on low-stress mechanical properties of fabric
Polyester multifilament yarns having residual extensibility 6.31, 12.50, 18.75, 24.20 and 30.21 % have been manufactured with nearly identical filament and yarn linear density. All filaments yarns are then converted to fabric of nearly same areal density. As the residual extensibility of yarn increases, the bending rigidity of corresponding fabric decreases. The coefficient of friction of fabric samples is higher at both too high and too low residual extensibility but it is found least at 18.75% residual extensibility. Too low and too high residual extensibility is not suitable to produce smooth fabric surface and hence fine optimization of residual extensibility is required. The fabric sample consisting of yarns of 18.75 % residual extensibility shows the maximum total hand value of 4.54, which can be considered excellent for ladies thin dress application on 0-5 scale

Controlling the size distribution of nanoparticles through the use of physical boundaries during laser ablation in liquids
A simple, yet effective method of controlling the size and size distributions
of nanoparticles produced as a result of laser ablation of target material is
presented. The method employs the presence of physical boundaries on either
sides of the ablation site. In order to demonstrate the potential of the
method, experiments have been conducted with copper and titanium as the target
materials that are placed in two different liquid media (water and isopropyl
alcohol). The ablation of the target material immersed in the liquid medium has
been carried out using an Nd:YAG laser. Significant differences in the size and
size distributions are observed in the cases of nanoparticles produced with and
without confining boundaries. It is seen that for any given liquid medium and
the target material, the mean size of the nanoparticles obtained with the
boundary-fitted target surface is consistently higher than that achieved in the
case of open (flat) targets. The observed trend has been attributed to the
plausible role(s) of the confining boundaries in prolonging the thermalisation
time of the plasma plume. In order to ascertain that the observed differences
in sizes of the nanoparticles produced with and without the presence of the
physical barriers are predominantly because of the prolonged thermalisation of
the plasma plume and not due to the possible formation of oxide layer, select
experiments with gold as the target material in water have also been performed.
The experiments also show that, irrespective of the liquid medium, the increase
in the mean size of the copper-based nanoparticles due to the presence of
physical boundaries is relatively higher than that observed in the case of
titanium target material under similar experimental conditions.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures, a part of this work has been published in

A study of mode of transmission, clinical presentations, WHO and immunological staging among HIV infected children
Background: The clinical manifestations of HIV infection vary widely among infants, children, and adolescent. So there is a need to study the mode of transmission, clinical presentations, WHO and immunological staging among HIV infected children.Methods: Observational analytic cross sectional study. The children who were HIV positive (confirmed by ELISA for HIV-1 and HIV-2), and attending the OPD of ART Centre and SN Children Hospital, Allahabad during period of one year. The study population consisted of 47 patients, belonging to both sexes and age of 18 months to 19 years. Detailed history was taken and full clinical examination done in all cases. CD4 count was estimated at the time of presentation.Results: Predominant mode of transmission in our study was vertical and it was present in 95% cases. Fever was the most common presenting complaint and was present in 28 (59.57%) cases. The most common clinical sign was pallor in our study, present in 37 cases (78.72%) followed by lymphadenopathy 34 (72.34%). On the basis of WHO clinical staging, most of the patients in our study were found in stage 2 .On the basis of immunological staging, 51% had no evidence of immunosuppression (stage1), 18 (38.3%) had mild to advanced immunosuppression (stage 2 and 3) and 5 (10.63%) patients were severely immunosuppressed (stage 4). Conclusion: In HIV infected children predominant mode of transmission is vertical. Fever and pallor are common clinical manifestations. Most of the patients are found in WHO clinical stage 2 and immunological stage 1.
Development and evaluation of multi millet thresher
In tribal areas of India, traditional methods of threshing of minor millets like little millet (Panicum sumatrense), M1, kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum), M2, foxtail millet (Setaria italica), M3, proso millet (P. miliaceum), M4, barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumantacea), M5, finger millet (Eleusine coracana), M6 is done of beating by sticks or treading out the crop panicle under the feet of oxen. This operation is most time consuming, labour intensive, drudgery prone, uneconomical, lower output and obtain low quality products. A thresher for these millet crops was developed and optimization of the operating parameters with little millet was done by using Response surface methodology (RSM). The optimized parameters were 7.79% (d.b) moisture content, 105 kgh-1 feed rate, 625 rpm cylinder speed, 5 mm threshing sieve size which gave maximum threshing efficiency of 95.13% and cleaning efficiency of 94.12%. After optimization of parameters the thresher was tested for threshing of all the six minor millets with proper adjustments of sieve. Threshing capacity of M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and M6 were obtained as 89, 137, 140, 91, 88 and 99 kg/h, respectively with more than 96% threshing efficiency and less than 2% broken grain
Evaluation of diagnostic efficacy of hepatobiliary scintigraphy as a diagnostic procedure in pediatric practice with special reference to cholestatic jaundice
Background: The objective was to assess the diagnostic efficacy of hepatobiliary scintigraphy (Tc99 mebrofenin) in case of cholestatic jaundice in pediatric practice.Method: Study conducted on 45 cases from 0-6 yrs. of age. Out of 45 pt 20 pt excluded from study Hepatobiliary Scintigraphy (Tc99m Mebrofinin) was performed in 25 cases. Injection of Tc99m mebrofinin (1-2 mCi) IV was given to each subject. Dynamic hepatic scan was done upto initial 1 hour study and additional delayed images were taken at 4 & 24 hrs only in case of non-visualization of tracer in the intestine after initial 1 hr. study.Results: In this study hepatobiliary scintigraphy was 100% sensitive, 93.73% specific, 80% positive predictive values, 100% negative predictive value, 6.23% false positive result and virtually no false negative result for biliary atresia. Conclusion: It is concluded that Tc99m mebrofenin hepatobiliary scintigraphy has proven to be reliable noninvasive imaging modality in evaluating cholestatic jaundice in pediatric practice as it carries a high sensitive & specific value, good positive & no negative predictive value, few false positive & virtually no false negative results.
