Geology of the Mohon Mountain volcanic field, Yavapai and Mohave Counties, Arizona: A preliminary report
Field mapping has produced a preliminary picture of Mohon Mountain as a composite volcano, in which pyroclastic ash and larger tephra erupted alternately with flows of rhyodacite and dacite. An analog study which uses imagery of lunar and Martian features will compare the overall shape of the vent complex, including its breached southern flank and satellite vents, to similar landforms found on Mars and the Moon which are believed to have formed similar processes. Ash flow sheets were hypothesized to comprise the outer slopes of Olympus Mons suggesting that explosive eruptions which are more volatile-rich than those which produce basalt flows are not confined to terrestrial settings but may also be found on bodies such as Mars, which have a thicker crust and deeper magma source in the mantle. The analog study will explore further evidence for explosive eruptions on Mars and the Moon
Spontaneous breaking of time reversal symmetry in strongly interacting two dimensional electron layers in silicon and germanium
We report experimental evidence of a remarkable spontaneous time reversal
symmetry breaking in two dimensional electron systems formed by atomically
confined doping of phosphorus (P) atoms inside bulk crystalline silicon (Si)
and germanium (Ge). Weak localization corrections to the conductivity and the
universal conductance fluctuations were both found to decrease rapidly with
decreasing doping in the Si:P and Ge:P layers, suggesting an effect
driven by Coulomb interactions. In-plane magnetotransport measurements indicate
the presence of intrinsic local spin fluctuations at low doping, providing a
microscopic mechanism for spontaneous lifting of the time reversal symmetry.

The changing educational needs of subject librarians A survey of UK practitioner opinions and course content
The fitness for purpose of professional education for library work has been constantly debated. Librarianship education and library practice have changed significantly as a result of technological, social and other factors affecting information provision and use. The key role of subject librarian in academic libraries has been particularly affected by both technological and pedagogical developments that have transformed the information arena, expanded their teaching activities and raised questions about the relevance and value of contemporary library-related courses for their present hybrid responsibilities. An investigation of UK course content and practitioner opinion was conducted in summer 2010 to explore whether existing programmes offered suitable preparation for current subject librarian roles. A pragmatic mixed methodology combined document analysis of course content with a mainly quantitative sector-wide survey of subject librarians (n=65) and library managers (n=48), followed by interviews with 8 librarians and 7 managers. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and qualitative data were analysed thematically. Results showed generally positive opinions of UK library education, but revealed different priorities among the two groups and a strong desire among subject librarians for improved coverage of pedagogy. Findings confirmed that personal qualities are at least as important as specialist abilities forcontemporary librarians.© 2010/2011 IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved
Conformal Field Theories in Fractional Dimensions
We study the conformal bootstrap in fractional space-time dimensions,
obtaining rigorous bounds on operator dimensions. Our results show strong
evidence that there is a family of unitary CFTs connecting the 2D Ising model,
the 3D Ising model, and the free scalar theory in 4D. We give numerical
predictions for the leading operator dimensions and central charge in this
family at different values of D and compare these to calculations of phi^4

Factorization of correlations in two-dimensional percolation on the plane and torus
Recently, Delfino and Viti have examined the factorization of the three-point
density correlation function P_3 at the percolation point in terms of the
two-point density correlation functions P_2. According to conformal invariance,
this factorization is exact on the infinite plane, such that the ratio R(z_1,
z_2, z_3) = P_3(z_1, z_2, z_3) [P_2(z_1, z_2) P_2(z_1, z_3) P_2(z_2,
z_3)]^{1/2} is not only universal but also a constant, independent of the z_i,
and in fact an operator product expansion (OPE) coefficient. Delfino and Viti
analytically calculate its value (1.022013...) for percolation, in agreement
with the numerical value 1.022 found previously in a study of R on the
conformally equivalent cylinder. In this paper we confirm the factorization on
the plane numerically using periodic lattices (tori) of very large size, which
locally approximate a plane. We also investigate the general behavior of R on
the torus, and find a minimum value of R approx. 1.0132 when the three points
are maximally separated. In addition, we present a simplified expression for R

Percolation Crossing Formulas and Conformal Field Theory
Using conformal field theory, we derive several new crossing formulas at the
two-dimensional percolation point. High-precision simulation confirms these
results. Integrating them gives a unified derivation of Cardy's formula for the
horizontal crossing probability , Watts' formula for the
horizontal-vertical crossing probability , and Cardy's formula for
the expected number of clusters crossing horizontally . The
main step in our approach implies the identification of the derivative of one
primary operator with another. We present operator identities that support this
idea and suggest the presence of additional symmetry in conformal field
