Spectator Behavior in a Quantum Hall Antidot with Multiple Bound Modes
We theoretically study Aharonov-Bohm resonances in an antidot system with
multiple bound modes in the integer quantum Hall regime, taking capacitive
interactions between the modes into account. We find the spectator behavior
that the resonances of some modes disappear and instead are replaced by those
of other modes, due to internal charge relaxation between the modes. This
behavior is a possible origin of the features of previous experimental data
which remain unexplained, spectator behavior in an antidot molecule and

Investment during the Korean Financial Crisis: A Structural Econometric Analysis
This paper uses firm-level panel data to analyze the role of financial factors in determining investment outcomes during the Korean financial crisis. Our identification strategy exploits the presence of foreign-denominated debt to measure shocks to the financial position of firms following the devaluation that occurred during the crisis period. Structural parameter estimates imply that financial factors may account for 50% to 80% of the overall drop in investment observed during this episode. Our estimates also imply that foreign-denominated debt had relatively little effect on aggregate investment spending. Counterfactual experiments suggest sizeable contractions in investment through this mechanism for economies that are more heavily dependent on foreign-denominated debt however.
Flight evaluation of the M2-F3 lifting body handling qualities at Mach numbers from 0.30 to 1.61
Percentage distributions of 423 pilot ratings obtained from 27 flights are used to indicate the general level of handling qualities of the M2-F3 lifting body. Percentage distributions are compared on the basis of longitudinal and lateral-directional handling qualities, control system, control system status, and piloting task. Ratings of longitudinal handling qualities at low speed were slightly better than those for transonic and supersonic speed. The ratings of lateral-directional handling qualities were unaffected by speed and configuration. Specific handling qualities problems are discussed in detail, and comparisons are made with pertinent handling qualities criteria
Expert Finding by Capturing Organisational Knowledge from Legacy Documents
Organisations capitalise on their best knowledge through the improvement of shared expertise which leads to a higher level of productivity and competency. The recognition of the need to foster the sharing of expertise has led to the development of expert finder systems that hold pointers to experts who posses specific knowledge in organisations. This paper discusses an approach to locating an expert through the application of information retrieval and analysis processes to an organization’s existing information resources, with specific reference to the engineering design domain. The approach taken was realised through an expert finder system framework. It enables the relationships of heterogeneous information sources with experts to be factored in modelling individuals’ expertise. These valuable relationships are typically ignored by existing expert finder systems, which only focus on how documents relate to their content. The developed framework also provides an architecture that can be easily adapted to different organisational environments. In addition, it also allows users to access the expertise recognition logic, giving them greater trust in the systems implemented using this framework. Spectral modeling of type II supernovae. I. Dilution factors
We present substantial extensions to the Monte Carlo radiative transfer code
TARDIS to perform spectral synthesis for type II supernovae. By incorporating a
non-LTE ionization and excitation treatment for hydrogen, a full account of
free-free and bound-free processes, a self-consistent determination of the
thermal state and by improving the handling of relativistic effects, the
improved code version includes the necessary physics to perform spectral
synthesis for type II supernovae to high precision as required for the reliable
inference of supernova properties. We demonstrate the capabilities of the
extended version of TARDIS by calculating synthetic spectra for the
prototypical type II supernova SN1999em and by deriving a new and independent
set of dilution factors for the expanding photosphere method. We have
investigated in detail the dependence of the dilution factors on photospheric
properties and, for the first time, on changes in metallicity. We also compare
our results with two previously published sets of dilution factors by Eastman
et al. (1996) and by Dessart & Hillier (2005), and discuss the potential
