Natural resources with sweetener power: phytochemistry and antioxidant characterisation of Stevia Rebaudiana (Bert.), sensorial and centesimal analyses of lemon cake recipes with S. Rebaudiana incorporation
Stevia rebaudiana leaf extracts are calorie-free sweeteners of natural origin, derived from the Stevia
rebaudiana plant known as a natural sweetener, which contains steviol glycosides and others bioactive
compounds recognized by their biological properties. The present study was designed to evaluate the total phenolics (26.0 mg gallic acid/g) and total flavonoids contents (9.7 mg catechin/g) of a hydroalcoholic extract of Stevia rebaudiana dried leaves. A similar hydroalcoholic extract of commercial powder steviol sweetener was also evaluated, showing lower contents of bioactive compounds (11.9 mg/g and 5.1 mg/g, for total phenolics and flavonoids, respectively). The hydroalcoholic extract of dried Stevia rebaudiana leaves also showed high in vitro antioxidant activity, besides a positive correlation between total phenolic compounds and the DPPH and FRAP assays. Moreover, Stevia rebaudiana leaves have sensory and functional properties superior to those of many other high-potency sweeteners and is likely to become a major source of natural sweetener for the growing food market. Thus, four different lemon cakes formulations were studied (a traditional cake control recipe with sugar, two cakes with incorporation of Stevia rebaudiana fresh leaf and a cake with commercial powder steviol), using a sensory analysis covering 100 untrained consumers.
Centesimal composition analyses of the four lemon cakes showed significant differences in fat, ashes,
proteins and carbohydrates contents (p<0.05). Also, the raised energy value observed for the cake control was superior to the cake with Stevia rebaudiana leaves incorporation (309.8 Kcal/100 g, 268.0 Kcal/100 g,142 respectively). Sensorial analysis results showed that Stevia rebaudiana leaves were accepted and, in the future, they can be a natural option to replace some or all the saccharose in cakes formulations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Prosódia na Libras – um estudo do Corpus do Enem-2017
Facial joints reflect on prosodic subcomponents of oral and sign languages. Therefore, it is a research of an applied, documentary, of a descriptive-exploratory character, through the observational method. The objective is to understand which are the facial movements of intonational prosodic manifestation in Brazilian Sign Language and what it means in a narrative context. As a methodological procedure, we opted for a bibliographic review about American Sign Language (ASL) and Sign Language Israeli and the analysis of a question of the High School National Exam (ENEM) of 2017 – the first edition of the test in Brazilian Sign Language.
Actinomycetes are important plant disease control and growth promotion agents, which makes it necessary to develop technology to produce large quantities of inoculum for green-house and field work. The present study had the objective of evaluating the growth of several isolates of Streptomyces in sterile rice for inoculum production. The sterile rice was inoculated with isolates of S. thermotolerans, S. griseus subsp. griseus, Streptomyces sp. N0035, S. purpurascens, and Streptomyces sp., and incubated at 28 ± 2ºC. Five days after its inoculation, mycelial growth and sporulation was observed for all Streptomyces isolates on the rice grains. Twelve days after incubation, the colonized rice was transferred to envelopes of dark brown paper and let to dry in an incubator at 30ºC for three days. After drying, 1g of colonized rice was added to 200 mL of sterile distilled water and the number of spores was counted under a microscope with a Newbauer counting chamber. Spore production varied from 0.14 × 10(9) to 1.47 × 10(9) spores per gram of rice and differed among the Streptomyces species. Sterile rice can be an alternative substrate for low cost mass production of Streptomyces inoculum
Evaluation of phonological working memory and impulsivity of drugs users treated at an integrated care center for mental health
Estas análises contribuem para propor estratégias de tratamento direcionadas às alterações detectadas.PURPOSE: to evaluate the phonological working memory abilities and check possible influences of impulsivity in patients starting treatment at the program for Alcohol and Drug users at CAISM. METHOD: 29 patients: 21 males and 8 females, drug users, 37.9±10.5 year old and with 10.59±3.53 years of schooling; and 30 volunteers: 19 males and 11 female, 32.4±11.9 year old and 11.07±3.29 years of schooling, with no psychiatric history or substance abuse freely participated. The subjects were asked to attend the specific evaluation, aiming to assess: 1) phonological working memory for words and pseudowords, 2) impulsivity in its second order factors (attention impulsiveness, motor and non-planning). RESULTS: concerning the performance of the subjects in the drug users' group in the evaluation of phonological working memory when compared to the control group we found a reduction in both the auditory word span and pseudowords, as well as the total number of correct recalls of words and pseudowords. In the evaluation of impulsivity, the group of drug users had high scores comparing to control subjects in all subtypes related to impulsivity, including the total score of impulsivity. There were no correlations among impulsivity scores and words and/or pseudowords' span. CONCLUSION: this pattern of responses indicates impairment in verbal working memory processing and high level of impulsivity in this population of chronic drug users. The poor performance of chronic drug users on all tests of phonological working memory is probably not due to the increased noted impulsivity. These analyses help to plan treatment strategies intended towards the detected alterations
Cascading Crypthecodinium cohnii biorefinery: global warming potential and techno-economic assessment
ABSTRACT: Prior to the commissioning of a new industrial biorefinery it is deemed necessary to evaluate if the new project will be beneficial or detrimental to climate change, one of the main drivers for the sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations. In particular, how SDG 7, Clean and Efficient Energy, SDG 3, Good Health and Well Being, SDG 9, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 12, Responsible Production and Consumption, would engage in a new biorefinery design, beneficial to climate change, i.e., fostering SDG 13, Climate Action. This study uses life cycle assessment methodology (LCA) to delve in detail into the Global Warming Impact category, project scenario GHG savings, using a conventional and a dynamic emission flux approach until 2060 (30-year lifetime). Water, heat and electricity circularity are in place by using a water recirculation process and a combined heat and power unit (CHP). A new historical approach to derive low and higher-end commodity prices (chemicals, electricity, heat, jet/maritime fuel, DHA, N-fertilizer) is used for the calculation of the economic indicators: Return of investment (ROI) and inflation-adjusted return (IAR), based upon the consumer price index (CPI). Main conclusions are: supercritical fluid extraction is the hotspot of energy consumption; C. cohnii bio-oil without DHA has higher sulfur concentration than crude oil based jet fuel requiring desulfurization, however the sulfur levels are compatible with maritime fuels; starting its operation in 2030, by 2100 an overall GHG savings of 73% (conventional LCA approach) or 85% (dynamic LCA approach) is projected; economic feasibility for oil productivity and content of 0.14 g/L/h and 27% (w/w) oil content, respectively (of which 31% is DHA), occurs for DHA-cost 100 times higher than reference fish oil based DHA; however future genetic engineering achieving 0.4 g/L/h and 70% (w/w) oil content (of which 31% is DHA), reduces the threshold to 20 times higher cost than reference fish oil based DHA; N-fertilizer, district heating and jet fuel may have similar values then their fossil counterparts.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
BATUCADA NO MORRO: A PRESENÇA DA RODA DE SAMBA NO CONTO ANA DAVENGA, DA AUTORA CONCEIÇÃO EVARISTO
This article aims to raise discussions about the presence of the samba circle in the short story Ana Davenga (1995), by Conceição Evaristo, from historical tradition aspects. Initially, the importance of samba is recognized as a form of entertainment for Afro-Brazilian communities, considering the cultural influences from Africa. Thus, support is searched in the theoretical references of Hermano Vianna in the work O Misterio do Samba (1995), Feitiço Decente (2012) by Carlos Sandroni, O Terreiro e a Cidade (2002), by Muniz Sodré, among others. In Ana Davenga short story, the samba circle composes the space of the narrative as the place of fun and joy along with the drumming. Anchored in a literary analysis, this article brought reflective results on the interart relations – literature and music, with emphasis on the legacy left by the peoples in our musical tradition.Este artigo tem como objetivo levantar discussões acerca da presença da roda de samba no conto Ana Davenga (1995), de Conceição Evaristo, a partir dos aspectos da tradição histórica. Avocado and its by-products: natural sources of nutrients, phytochemical compounds and functional properties
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a tropical and subtropical fruit that is native to Mexico and
Central America. This fruit is gaining increasing worldwide acceptance and has received extensive
marketing and a wide distribution due to its relevant nutritional benefits for human health. This work
presents relevant information on the production, composition and application of avocado, with an
emphasis on its by-products, focusing on the proper use of waste and the possibility of monetizing
waste for nutritional and environmental purposes. The entire avocado is rich in bioactive compounds
(pulp, peel and seed) and presents several health benefits, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant
and anticancer activities, as well as dermatological uses and others. Therefore, several food grade
ingredients can be obtained from avocado wastes, particularly premium-grade fats or extracts with a
high functional power. Studies should continue to identify the profiles and phytochemicals available to
the business sector, which can also be implemented to valorize the nutritional and functional potential
of avocado seeds and peels.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
