Notas sobre os fundamentos da crítica de Theodor Adorno à indústria cultural

The present work aims to expose the main foundations of the critique of culture industry, carried out by Theodor Adorno in an essay of Dialectic of Enlightenment. To do that, we chose to present the most significant elements of his intellectual and aesthetic education in close relation to some central theoretical aspects of the text at hand. At first, the exposure is carried out by focusing on Adorno's historical context and some biographical information. Then, some of the philosophical assumptions of the essay are highlighted and related to the intellectual and aesthetic education of the philosopher. At last, the intention is that all the themes presented in this work form a constellation which reveals a significant and overall image of Adorno's critique of culture industry.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo expor os principais fundamentos da crítica à indústria cultural, realizada por Theodor Adorno em um ensaio da Dialética do esclarecimento. A tese discute a natureza da exposição dialética em Adorno mediante sua própria experiência histórico-filosófica, que compreende os sucessivos intentos das correntes críticas do idealismo e do materialismo no sentido de conceber uma forma adequada de exposição conceitual do objeto, a controvérsia entre positivismo e dialética na sociologia e os processos políticos, culturais e econômicos das sociedades modernas especialmente relacionados ao contexto social de devastação material e espiritual da Europa por ocasião das duas grandes guerras mundiais.The thesis discusses the nature of Adorno\'s dialectical exposition by means of his own historical-philosophical experience, which comprehends the successive attempts of idealist and materialist criticism in the sense of conceiving an adequate form of conceptual exposition of the object, the controversy between positivism and dialectics in sociology, and the political, cultural, and economic processes of modern societies especially related to the social context of material and spiritual devastation of Europe on the occasion of the two great world wars

A Walter Benjamin reader: dialectics, interpretation and materialism in Theodor W. Adorno, 1931-2.

O objetivo do artigo édiscutir a influência do livro Origem do drama trágico alemão(1928) de Walter Benjamin sobre duas preleções de Theodor W. Adorno na Universidade de Frankfurt, a saber: “A atualidade da filosofia” (1931) e “A ideia de história natural” (1932). Com isso, procurou-se, por um lado, indicar especificamente a influência benjaminiana sobre a ideia de constelação e, por outro, esclarecer as fundações histórico-filosóficas da ideia de história natural, que se encontram no centro das reflexões epistemológicas deAdorno. Dessa maneira, é possível compreender as concepções de dialética, interpretação e materialismo trabalhadas por Adorno com o propósito de caracterizar sua própria tarefa filosófica no início da década de 1930.The aim of the article is to discuss the influence of Walter Benjamin's book Origin of the German Tragic Drama (1928) on two lectures by Theodor W. Adorno at the University of Frankfurt, namely: "The actuality of philosophy" (1931) and " of natural history "(1932). On the one hand, the aim was to indicate specifically Benjamin's influence on the idea of constellation and, on the other hand, to clarify the historical-philosophical foundations of the idea of natural history, which are at the center of Adorno's epistemological reflections. In this way, it is possible to understand the conceptions of dialectics, hermeneutics and materialism worked by Adorno in order to characterize his own philosophical task in the early 1930s

Neotropical freshwater fisheries : A dataset of occurrence and abundance of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics

The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data. The number of species for the most numerous orders are as follows: Characiformes (1289), Siluriformes (1384), Cichliformes (354), Cyprinodontiformes (245), and Gymnotiformes (135). The most recorded species was the characid Astyanax fasciatus (4696 records). We registered 116,802 distribution records for native species, compared to 1802 distribution records for nonnative species. The main aim of the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set was to make these occurrence and abundance data accessible for international researchers to develop ecological and macroecological studies, from local to regional scales, with focal fish species, families, or orders. We anticipate that the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set will be valuable for studies on a wide range of ecological processes, such as trophic cascades, fishery pressure, the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation, and the impacts of species invasion and climate change.
