    Anxiety and depression among patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease in Shanghai: a cross-sectional study

    ObjectiveTo understand the mental health status and its influencing factors among patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease and to provide a reference for medical staff to formulate scientific and feasible intervention strategies.MethodsA total of 114 patients diagnosed with non-tuberculous mycobacillosis during hospitalization in the Department of Infection from September 2020 to April 2021 were selected as the research participants. Participants’ mental health status and related factors were evaluated using a self-made general patient information questionnaire, self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and self-rating Depression Scale (SDS).ResultsAmong 114 patients with non-tuberculous mycosis, 61 (53.51%) exhibited depressive symptoms, and the SDS score was 51.15 ± 13.04, which was higher than the national norm of 41.88 ± 10.57 (p < 0.05); further, 39 patients (34.21%) showed anxiety symptoms, and the SAS score was 45.75 ± 10.81, which was significantly higher than the national norm of 29.78 ± 10.07 (p < 0.05). Body mass index and monthly household income had significant effects on depression in patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease (p < 0.05). Educational level had a significant effect on the anxiety state of patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease (p < 0.05).ConclusionPatients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease are prone to depression and anxiety. Nurses should pay attention to it in clinical work for the timely identification of and intervention for anxiety and depression and intervene

    Noninvasive Prediction of Sperm Retrieval Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Patients with Nonobstructive Azoospermia

    Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) is the first-line treatment plan for nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). However, studies reported that the overall sperm retrieval rate (SRR) was 43% to 63% among men with NOA, implying that nearly half of the patients fail sperm retrieval. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of parameters derived from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in predicting SRR in patients with NOA. Seventy patients diagnosed with NOA were enrolled and classified into two groups based on the outcome of sperm retrieval during mTESE: success (29 patients) and failure (41 patients). Scrotal magnetic resonance imaging was performed, and the DTI parameters, including mean diffusivity and fractional anisotropy, were analyzed between groups. The results showed that there was a significant difference in mean diffusivity values between the two groups, and the area under the curve for mean diffusivity was calculated as 0.865, with a sensitivity of 72.2% and a specificity of 97.5%. No statistically significant difference was observed in fractional anisotropy values and sex hormone levels between the two groups. This study demonstrated that the mean diffusivity value might serve as a useful noninvasive imaging marker for predicting the SRR of NOA patients undergoing mTESE

    Chiral and helical states in selective-area epitaxial heterostructure

    Abstract The quasi-1D chiral edge states in a quantum anomalous Hall insulator are dissipationless, while the 2D helical surface states in a topological insulator are insensitive to spin-independent scatterings due to the topological protection. Both serve as essential ingredients for topological electronics. Here, we integrate these states into a single device using selective area epitaxy based on the molecular beam epitaxy technique. The chiral edge state comes from the quantum anomalous Hall insulator Cr:(Bi,Sb)2Te3, while the helical surface state comes from the intrinsic topological insulator (Bi,Sb)2Te3 which only interfaces with a partial edge of the former, forming a selective-area heterostructure. At the heterointerface, the chiral state in Cr:(Bi,Sb)2Te3 is allowed to be scattered into (Bi,Sb)2Te3 so that the incoming current will be redistributed according to the coordination between the chirality and helicity. Our device enables the collaboration between chiral and helical states for low-dissipative transport with tunable current dimension

    Identification of Novel Covalent XPO1 Inhibitors Based on a Hybrid Virtual Screening Strategy

    Nuclear export protein 1 (XPO1), a member of the nuclear export protein-p (Karyopherin-P) superfamily, regulates the transport of “cargo” proteins. To facilitate this important process, which is essential for cellular homeostasis, XPO1 must first recognize and bind the cargo proteins. To inhibit this process, small molecule inhibitors have been designed that inhibit XPO1 activity through covalent binding. However, the scaffolds for these inhibitors are very limited. While virtual screening may be used to expand the diversity of the XPO1 inhibitor skeleton, enormous computational resources would be required to accomplish this using traditional screening methods. In the present study, we report the development of a hybrid virtual screening workflow and its application in XPO1 covalent inhibitor screening. After screening, several promising XPO1 covalent molecules were obtained. Of these, compound 8 performed well in both tumor cell proliferation assays and a nuclear export inhibition assay. In addition, molecular dynamics simulations were performed to provide information on the mode of interaction of compound 8 with XPO1. This research has identified a promising new scaffold for XPO1 inhibitors, and it demonstrates an effective and resource-saving workflow for identifying new covalent inhibitors
