Eschatology, Messianism and Politics
The article presents the issues of strong relations between various conceptions of God and their consequences – adopting a particular vision of political life, nation, and state. The author shows relations between religion and politics in the context of political eschatology and political messianism, pointing to the examples of the French Revolution, nineteenth-century Polish messianism, revolutionary Russia, or Nazi Germany. Quoting various examples, the author argues that the vision of God and the place of religion in a given society strongly influence the political sphere, the perception of the role of the state and the definition of a nation
Mityczno-symboliczny paradygmat etniczności Johna A. Armstronga
John A. Armstrong’s myth-symbol paradigm of ethnicity The theme of this article is John Alexander Armstrong’s myth-symbol paradigm of ethnicity as a polemic with the modernist theory of nationalism, assuming duplication of the nation in relation to nationalism. According to Armstrong more important for the survival of the nation than political and economic issues, is creating and updating of mythological complex, able to maintain stability of the nation. Reminder ethnicity paradigm seems to be important in the context of the events in Ukraine and observed the process of creating a new political mythology, reinforcing the Ukrainian national identity. Mityczno-symboliczny paradygmat etniczności Johna A. Armstronga Tematem artykułu jest mityczno-symboliczny paradygmat etniczności Johna Alexandra Armstronga, jako polemika z modernistyczną teorią nacjonalizmu, zakładającą wtórność narodu w stosunku do nacjonalizmu. Według Armstronga ważniejsze dla przetrwania narodu były nie kwestie polityczno-gospodarcze, lecz stworzenie i aktualizacja kompleksu mitologicznego, zdolnego do podtrzymywania trwałości narodu. Przypomnienie paradygmatu etniczności wydaje się istotne w kontekście wydarzeń na Ukrainie i obserwowanego tam procesu tworzenia nowej mitologii politycznej, wzmacniającej ukraińską tożsamość narodową

Why digitisation can cause anarchization : micro-identities on the Internet as a factor stimulating the processof state anarchisation
This article deals with the phenomenon of socio-political anarchization related to the dynamic process of digitisation, primarily connected with the functioning of social media. All issues are analysed from several perspectives, including the research areas of political science, sociology and psychology. According to the authors, many mechanisms of the internet described in this article not only contribute to the growing social and political polarisation, but may also lead to a recession of liberal democracy and the most important state institutions. The authors argue that the specific way in which digital media function and the available options of their application may strengthen gradual anarchization processes, ultimately leading to the creation of various types of social entities. These entities are defined by particular micro-identities and are less and less dependent on the State. At the same time, they contribute (or rather can contribute) to the actual atrophy of the existing state structures, as well as the rules and procedures hitherto present in society
Ideological counter-narrative as a response to fundamentalist ideology in Europe and South Asia : an analysis of selected cases in their cultural context and an outline of recommended activities
The article discusses the issues of religious radicalisation and de-radicalisation in contemporary Islam. Its authors present complex phenomena of ideological, historical, cultural and political contexts of radicalisation processes, investigate the distribution of radical propagandist materials among various Muslim communities around the world and analyse the consequences of ideological transformation of Islamic fundamentalism in selected European countries. The authors conclude that radicalisation propaganda has a global appeal due to the fact it has adopted a carefully selected group of globally recognised ideologues (Ibn Abd al-Wahhab, Abul A’la Maududi, Sayyid Qutb), but the recommended de-radicalisation processes should be rooted locally or regionally. The article proposes a constructive theoretical framework, a working hypothesis that should be constantly revised and modified in the changing socio-political environment
Political myth as a tool of public diplomacy and an element of international relations
Autorka prezentuje mit polityczny jako narzędzie dyplomacji publicznej i element stosunków międzynarodowych, opierając się na przykładzie amerykańskich mitów politycznych po 2001 roku. Ogłoszona przez Georga W. Busha wojna z terrorem (War on Terror) wymagała stworzenia politycznych mitów usprawiedliwiających moralnie polityczne i militarne działania Stanów Zjednoczonych. Zadaniem amerykańskiej dyplomacji publicznej w tym okresie było uzyskanie społecznej akceptacji dla tego rodzaju działań, co częściowo udało się w odniesieniu
do społeczeństwa amerykańskiego, lecz zakończyło fiaskiem w odniesieniu do światowej opinii publicznej. W ocenie autorki „walka o serca i umysły” globalnej publiczności została przegrana, ponieważ przyjęto błędne założenie o uniwersalności amerykańskiego mitu politycznego, nie zadając sobie trudu poznania i zrozumienia
symboliczno-mitycznego kapitału innych uczestników gry.Based on the example of American political myths created after 2001, a political myth has been presented in this article as a tool of public diplomacy and an element of international relations. The War on Terror declared by George W. Bush
created a need for political myths that would morally justify political and military actions to be undertaken by the United States. What came as the main objective of the then U.S. public diplomacy was to achieve social acceptance of this
type of actions. As far as American citizens are concerned, the task was partially fulfilled, yet in terms of the reaction on the part of the global public opinion it turned out to be a complete fail. In view of the author the “fight for people’s
hearts and minds” was lost because of the mistaken assumption of the universality of the American political myth, without a proper analysis of main symbols and myths underlying other involved countries
The concept of ideological counter-narrative in response to the message of Islamic fundamentalism : the analysis of selected examples of radicalisation and de-radicalisation in Europe, the Middle East and South Asia
Artykuł omawia kwestie religijnej radykalizacji i deradykalizacji we współczesnym islamie. The article discusses the issues of religious radicalization and deradicalization in contemporary Islam. Its authors present complex phenomena of ideological, historical, cultural and political contexts of radicalization processes, investigate the problem of distribution of radical propagandist materials among various Muslim communities around the world and analyze the consequences of ideological transformation of Islamic fundamentalism in selected European countries. In their analysis of ISIS recruitment policy they focus on Arie Kruglanski’s researches on cognitive closure and personal significance. As an example of an ideological "counter-narrative" vis-à-vis fundamentalist philosophy the proposed political concepts by Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah are examined, albeit with the proviso that their universal relevance is probably limited by the historical context of Pakistan. The authors conclude that the radicalization propaganda has a global appeal as it has adopted a carefully selected group of universally recognized ideologues (Ibn Abd al-Wahhab, Abul A’la Maududi, Sayyid Qutb) but the recommended de-radicalization processes should be rooted locally or regionally
