Structural analysis of ultra-high speed aircraft structural components
The buckling characteristics of a hypersonic beaded skin panel were investigated under pure compression with boundary conditions similar to those found in a wing mounted condition. The primary phases of analysis reported include: (1) experimental testing of the panel to failure; (2) finite element structural analysis of the beaded panel with the computer program NASTRAN; and (3) summary of the semiclassical buckling equations for the beaded panel under purely compressive loads. A comparison of each of the analysis methods is also included
Write Channel Model for Bit-Patterned Media Recording
We propose a new write channel model for bit-patterned media recording that
reflects the data dependence of write synchronization errors. It is shown that
this model accommodates both substitution-like errors and insertion-deletion
errors whose statistics are determined by an underlying channel state process.
We study information theoretic properties of the write channel model, including
the capacity, symmetric information rate, Markov-1 rate and the zero-error
capacity.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures, journa
Silent Growth of Comparative Negligence in Common Law Court
The common law view of contributory negligence theoretically still obtains in most jurisdictions. Thus, if the plaintiff\u27s negligence proximately contributes to his resulting injury or damage, he is barred entirely from recovery. But this rule is honored in the breach in a growing number of jurisdictions that theoretically do not accept the doctrine of comparative negligence
