Practical Student Self-affirmation
This research paper focuses on student peer interactional relationships in a tertiary level classroom setting in Japan. The research is based on the use of one piece of technology, Microsoft PowerPoint, to illustrate student peer interactional relationships during presentation tasks throughout the 2015 Spring Semester. The application of the particular software used in this research is of little importance, in that any piece of software could be used to investigate student interaction. The important findings of this research indicate that students can be made aware of their self-affirmation through an application of sociolinguistics and an introduction of critical pedagogy that encompasses a significant reduction in the influence of the traditional âteacherâ role to the benefit of student empowerment. The role of the student changes from being the passive object to that of a more active Subject role, as that of the âteacher,â or better termed âfacilitator,â dispenses their traditional paternalistic, authoritative Subject position, in favor of being one that helps to bring about ââŚan outcome (as learning, productivity, or communication) by providing indirect or unobtrusive assistance, guidance, or supervision,â on the part of the âfacilitator,â as it is defined in the Miriam-Webster dictionary (2015). For students to adopt a more active role requires a change in study habits, which requires more effort. However, this adheres perfectly to the Kyoai College motto; âYou can develop your ability though it might be hardâ (Kyoai, 2015)
Central European foreign exchange markets: a cross-spectral analysis of the 2007 financial crisis
This paper investigates co-movements between currency markets of Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Euro in the year following the drying up of money markets in August 2007. The paper shows that assessing the degree of foreign currency co-movement by correlation can lead to concluding, erroneously, that financial contagion has not occurred. Using cross-spectral methods, the paper shows that defining contagion as changes in the structure of co-movements of asset prices encompasses more of the complex nature of exchange rate dynamics. What is shown is that, following August 2007, there is increased in the intensity of co-movements, but non-linearly. Focusing on the activities of a mix of banks and currency managers, it is suggested that changes in the structure of currency interaction present an unfavourable view of the contagion experienced by at least three of these currencies

The Understanding of Communicative Intentions in Children with Severe-to-Profound Hearing Loss
The ability to distinguish lies from sincere false statements requires understanding a speakerâs communicative intentions and is argued to develop through linguistic interaction. We tested whether this ability was delayed in 26 children with severe-to-profound hearing loss who, based on vocabulary size, were thought to have relatively limited access to linguistic exchanges compared to typically hearing peers (n = 93). Children were presented with toy bears who either lied or made a false statement sincerely. Despite identifying speakersâ knowledge/ignorance, deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) children were delayed in identifying lies and sincere false statements when matched for chronological age. When matched for receptive vocabulary, observed discrepancies diminished. Deaf children who experienced early access to conversations with their deaf parents demonstrated no delay. Findings suggest limited access to linguistic exchanges delays the development of a key pragmatic skill
Dark Matter Sub-Halo Counts via Star Stream Crossings
Dark matter sub-halos create gaps in the stellar streams orbiting in the
halos of galaxies. We evaluate the sub-halo stream crossing integral with the
guidance of simulations to find that the linear rate of gap creation, R_gap, in
a typical Cold Dark Matter (CDM) galactic halo at 100 kpc is R_gap = 0.0066
M_8^-0.35 kpc^-1 Gyr^-1$, where M_8 = M/10^8 M_sun, is the minimum mass halo
that creates a visible gap. The relation can be recast entirely in terms of
observables, as R_gap= 0.059 w^-0.85 kpc^-1 Gyr^-1, for w in kpc, normalized at
100 kpc. Using published data, the density of gaps is estimated for M31's NW
stream and the Milky Way Pal 5 stream, Orphan stream, and Eastern Banded
Structure. The estimated rates of gap creation all have errors of 50% or more
due to uncertain dynamical ages and the relatively noisy stream density
measurements. The gap rate-width data are in good agreement with the CDM
predicted relation. The high density of gaps in the narrow streams require a
total halo population of 10^5 sub-halos above a minimum mass of 10^5 M_sun.Comment: ApJ accepted and copy-edite

Utilization of palm oil as downstream products is still remain limited. Palm oil contains high carotenoids ranging from 500 to 700 ppm. Carotenoids are very sensitive to heat and oxidation. Microencapsulation process conducted by two steps, i.e. homogenitation to produce emulsion and spray drying to produce microcapsule that protect its active compounds. Olein homogenization was the main process in the formation of an emulsion of palm oil prior to drying process. This process was influenced by speed, time and volume. Microcapsule formulation using maltodextrin, Arabic gum, and gelatin. The results showed that the process of homogenization affected the quality and characteristics of emulsion and microencapsulate of palm oil. An increase of volume and length of time did not significantly affect the characteristics of palm oil microcapsule, such as water content, solubility and water activity (p>0.05), but significantly affected the emulsion stability, surface oil, carotenoid contain and efficiency of microencapsulation (p<0.05) and also affecting the quality of microencapsulate (yield, water activity, solubility). 1H, 13C, 15N backbone and IVL methyl group resonance assignment of the fungal β-glucosidase from Trichoderma reesei
β-glucosidases have received considerable attention due to their essential role in bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass. β-glucosidase can hydrolyse cellobiose in cellulose degradation and its low activity has been considered as one of the main limiting steps in the process. Large-scale conversions of cellulose therefore require high enzyme concentration which increases the cost. β-glucosidases with improved activity and thermostability are therefore of great commercial interest. The fungus Trichoderma reseei expresses thermostable cellulolytic enzymes which have been widely studied as attractive targets for industrial applications. Genetically modified β-glucosidases from Trichoderma reseei have been recently commercialised. We have developed an approach in which screening of low molecular weight molecules (fragments) identifies compounds that increase enzyme activity and are currently characterizing fragment-based activators of TrBgl2. A structural analysis of the 55 kDa apo form of TrBgl2 revealed a classical (ι/β)8-TIM barrel fold. In the present study we present a partial assignment of backbone chemical shifts, along with those of the Ile (I)-Val (V)-Leu (L) methyl groups of TrBgl2. These data will be used to characterize the interaction of TrBgl2 with the small molecule activators
Laser-induced solid-solid phase transition in As under pressure: A theoretical prediction
In Arsenic a pressure-induced solid-solid phase transition from the A7 into
the simple cubic structure has been experimentally demonstrated [Beister et
al., Phys. Rev. B 41, 5535 (1990)]. In this paper we present calculations,
which predict that this phase transition can also be induced by an ultrashort
laser pulse in As under pressure. In addition, calculations for the
pressure-induced phase transition are presented. Using density functional
theory in the generalized gradient approximation, we found that the
pressure-induced phase transition takes place at 26.3 GPa and is accompanied by
a volume change "Delta V" = 0.5 bohr^3/atom. The laser-induced phase transition
is predicted for an applied pressure of 23.8 GPa and an absorbed laser energy
