Intensity-Dependent Enhancement of Saturable Absorption in PbS-Au4 Nanohybrid Composites: Evidence for Resonant Energy Transfer by Auger Recombination

Intensity-dependent enhancement of saturable absorption in a film of PbS-Au4 nanohybrid composites has been observed by femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption measurement at 780 nm. The nonlinear absorption coefficient of saturable absorption in PbS-Au4 nanohybrid composites is found to be dependent on excitation irradiance and it is determined to be -2.9 cm/GW at 78 GW/cm2, an enhancement of nearly fourfold in comparison with that of pure PbS quantum dots (QDs). The enhancement is attributed to excitation of surface plasmon by resonant energy transfer between PbS QDs and Au nanoparticles through Auger recombination.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures. Testing general relativity with TianQin: the prospect of using the inspiral signals of black hole binaries

In this paper, we carry out a systematic study of the prospect of testing general relativity with the inspiral signals of black hole binaries that could be detected with TianQin. The study is based on the parameterized post-Einsteinian (ppE) waveform, so that many modified gravity theories can be covered simultaneously. We consider black hole binaries with total masses ranging from 10M107M10\rm M_\odot\sim10^7 M_\odot and ppE corrections at post-Newtonian (PN) orders ranging from 4-4PN to 22PN. Compared to the current ground-based detectors, TianQin can improve the constraints on the ppE phase parameter β\beta by orders of magnitude. For example, the improvement at the 4-4PN and 22PN orders can be about 1313 and 33 orders of magnitude (compared to the results from GW150914), respectively. Compared to future ground-based detectors, such as ET, TianQin is expected to be superior below the 1-1PN order, and for corrections above the 0.5-0.5PN order, TianQin is still competitive near the large mass end of the low mass range [10M,103M][10 \rm M_\odot, \,10^3 \rm M_\odot]\,. Compared to the future space-based detector LISA, TianQin can be competitive in the lower mass end as the PN order is increased. For example, at the 4-4PN order, LISA is always superior for sources more massive than about 30M30\rm M_\odot\,, while at the 22PN order, TianQin becomes competitive for sources less massive than about 104M10^4\rm M_\odot. We also study the scientific potentials of detector networks involving TianQin, LISA and ET, and discuss the constraints on specific theories such as the dynamic Chern-Simons theory and the Einstein-dilaton Gauss-Bonnet theory

PURPOSE: We aimed at identifying the cerebral hemodynamic characteristics of acute mountain sickness (AMS). METHODS: Transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonography examinations were performed between 18 and 24 h after arrival at 3,700 m via plane from 500 m (n = 454). A subgroup of 151 subjects received TCD examinations at both altitudes. RESULTS: The velocities of the middle cerebral artery, vertebral artery (VA) and basilar artery (BA) increased while the pulsatility indexes (PIs) and resistance indexes (RIs) decreased significantly (all p < 0.05). Velocities of BA were higher in AMS (AMS+) individuals when compared with non-AMS (AMS-) subjects (systolic velocity: 66 ± 12 vs. 69 ± 15 cm/s, diastolic velocity: 29 ± 7 vs. 31 ± 8 cm/s and mean velocity, 42 ± 9 vs. 44 ± 10 cm/s). AMS was characterized by higher diastolic velocity [V d_VA (26 ± 4 vs. 25 ± 4, p = 0.013)] with lower PI and RI (both p = 0.004) in VA. Furthermore, the asymmetry index (AI) of VAs was significantly lower in the AMS + group [-5.7 % (21.0 %) vs. -2.5 % (17.8 %), p = 0.016]. The AMS score was closely correlated with the hemodynamic parameters of BA and the V d_VA, PI, RI and AI of VA. CONCLUSION: AMS is associated with alterations in cerebral hemodynamics in the posterior circulation rather than the anterior one, and is characterized by higher blood velocity with lower resistance. In addition, the asymmetry of VAs may be involved in AMS

Forced vibration analysis of multi-degree-of-freedom nonlinear systems with the extended Galerkin method

In this study, the dynamic response behavior of a generalized nonlinear dynamic system is investigated using a newly proposed extended Galerkin method. The algebraic equations of vibration amplitudes are obtained through an integration of the weighted functions. The new method is equivalent to the harmonic balance method but with a much simpler calculation procedure and a higher efficiency. This is the first time to use the method for the analysis of nonlinear systems with high number of modes, manifesting that the method is applicable to forced vibrations of nonlinear behavior. The method is further validated by the numerical Runge-Kutta method

The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening with a three-tier fecal occult blood test (FOBT) in the Chinese population. The study was performed between 1987 and 2008 at the Beijing Military General Hospital, in a cohort of army service males and females aged >50 years. Between 1987 and 2005, a three-tier screening program, comprising guaiac-based FOBTs (gFOBTs), followed by immunochemical FOBTs for positive guaiac test samples and then colonoscopy for positive immunochemical test subjects, was performed annually. The cohort was followed up until 2008. The cohort included 5,104 subjects, of which, 3,863 subjects participated in screening (screening group) and 1,241 did not (non-screening group). The two groups did not differ in age, gender or other major risk factors for colon cancer. Overall, 36 CRCs occurred in the screening group and 21 in the non-screening group. Compared with the non-screening group, the relative risk for the incidence and mortality of CRC was 0.51 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.30-0.87] and 0.36 (95% CI, 0.18-0.71), respectively, in the screening group. The general sensitivity of this three-tier FOBT was 80.6% (95% CI, 65.3-91.1). Thus, annual screening using the three-tier FOBT program may reduce the CRC incidence and mortality rate

BACKGROUND: Staging diagnosis of liver fibrosis is a prerequisite for timely diagnosis and therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B. In recent years, ultrasound elastography has become an important method for clinical noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis stage, but its diagnostic value for early liver fibrosis still needs to be further improved. In this study, the texture analysis was carried out on the basis of two dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE), and the feasibility of 2D-SWE plus texture analysis in the diagnosis of early liver fibrosis was discussed. AIM: To assess the diagnostic value of 2D-SWE combined with textural analysis in liver fibrosis staging. METHODS: This study recruited 46 patients with chronic hepatitis B. Patients underwent 2D-SWE and texture analysis; Young\u27s modulus values and textural patterns were obtained, respectively. Textural pattern was analyzed with regard to contrast, correlation, angular second moment (ASM), and homogeneity. Pathological results of biopsy specimens were the gold standard; comparison and assessment of the diagnosis efficiency were conducted for 2D-SWE, texture analysis and their combination. RESULTS: 2D-SWE displayed diagnosis efficiency in early fibrosis, significant fibrosis, severe fibrosis, and early cirrhosis (AUC \u3e 0.7, P \u3c 0.05) with respective AUC values of 0.823 (0.678-0.921), 0.808 (0.662-0.911), 0.920 (0.798-0.980), and 0.855 (0.716-0.943). Contrast and homogeneity displayed independent diagnosis efficiency in liver fibrosis stage (AUC \u3e 0.7, P \u3c 0.05), whereas correlation and ASM showed limited values. AUC of contrast and homogeneity were respectively 0.906 (0.779-0.973), 0.835 (0.693-0.930), 0.807 (0.660-0.910) and 0.925 (0.805-0.983), 0.789 (0.639-0.897), 0.736 (0.582-0.858), 0.705 (0.549-0.883) and 0.798 (0.650-0.904) in four liver fibrosis stages, which exhibited equivalence to 2D-SWE in diagnostic efficiency (P \u3e 0.05). Combined diagnosis (PRE) displayed diagnostic efficiency (AUC \u3e 0.7, P \u3c 0.01) for all fibrosis stages with respective AUC of 0.952 (0.841-0.994), 0.896 (0.766-0.967), 0.978 (0.881-0.999), 0.947 (0.835-0.992). The combined diagnosis showed higher diagnosis efficiency over 2D-SWE in early liver fibrosis (P \u3c 0.05), whereas no significant differences were observed in other comparisons (P \u3e 0.05). CONCLUSION: Texture analysis was capable of diagnosing liver fibrosis stage, combined diagnosis had obvious advantages in early liver fibrosis, liver fibrosis stage might be related to the hepatic tissue hardness distribution
