    Breast abscess in pregnancy due to Salmonella has been very rarely reported in the literature and most of the cases till now are due to unknown risk factors or in otherwise immunocompromised adults. Localized disease can occur due to bacteremia followed by seeding of bacteria at distant sites. We report two cases of breast abscess in pregnancy cause by Salmonella typhi where drainage of abscess and appropriate antibiotics helped in complete resolution

    Bisphenol A and Metabolic Syndrome: Results from NHANES

    Background. Bisphenol A (BPA) is detected in the urine of 95% of US adults. Recent evidence from population-based studies suggests that BPA is associated with individual components for metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, no previous study has examined the direct association between BPA and MetS. Methods. We examined 2,104 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003–2008. The main outcome was the presence of MetS (). Results. Increasing levels of urinary BPA were positively associated with MetS, independent of confounders such as age, gender, race/ethnicity, smoking, alcohol intake, physical activity, and urinary creatinine. Compared to tertile 1 (referent), the multivariable adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of MetS in tertile 3 was 1.51 (1.07–2.12); -trend was 0.02. Conclusions. Urinary BPA levels are positively associated with MetS, in a representative sample of US adults and independent of traditional risk factors for MetS. Future, prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings

    Growth factor priming of murine mesenchymal stem cells critically determines their functionality

    Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a subset of multipotent cells with a variety of trophic and immunosuppressive functions. Isolation of murine MSCs has traditionally been hampered by the presence of contaminating cells in culture. In this study, I prospectively isolate murine MSCs based on the co-expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptor alpha and stem cell antigen‐1 (PαS MSCs) and present novel data regarding their inin vitrovitro phenotype, karyotype and immunomodulatory functions. However, PαS MSCs undergo senescence after extended culture, resulting in a loss of function. Addition of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), PDGF‐BB or transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) was able to overcome senescence in MSC cultures. These factors also ‘lineage primed’ MSCs down specific fates at the genetic and phenotypic levels, with un‐supplemented MSCs primed towards bone, FGF2 or PDGF‐BB supplemented cells primed towards fat, and FGF2 supplemented cells primed towards cartilage. TGF‐β1 supplementation attenuated tri‐lineage differentiation of PαS MSCs but maintained their immunosuppressive functions. These findings were confirmed in a mouse model of inflammatory liver injury, with late‐passage TGF‐β1 MSCs improving liver injury compared to controls. In summary, these results have significant translational relevance as I reveal that culture conditions can functionally ‘prime’ MSCs down specific fates

    Cell-Phone Use and Self-Reported Hypertension: National Health Interview Survey 2008

    Background. Cell-phone usage has increased dramatically over the last decade, along with a rising public concern over the health effects of using this device. The association between cell-phone usage and hypertension has not been examined before. Methods. We analysed data from 21,135 adults aged ≥18 years who participated in the 2008 National Health Interview Survey. Based on reported cell-phone use, participants were categorized as cell-phone nonusers, predominantly landline users, dual users of cell phone and landline, and predominantly cell-phone users. The main outcome of interest was self-reported physician-diagnosed hypertension (n = 6,793). Results. 43.5% of the participants were cell-phone nonusers, while 13.8% were predominantly cell-phone users. We found that cell-phone use was inversely associated with hypertension, independent of age, sex, race/ethnicity, smoking, alcohol consumption, education, body mass index (BMI), and physical activity. Compared to cell-phone nonusers, the multivariable odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of hypertension was 0.86 (0.75–0.98, P trend  =  .005) among predominantly cell-phone users. This inverse association between cell-phone use and hypertension was stronger in women, those aged <60 years, whites, and those with BMI <25 kg/m2. Conclusion. We found that cell-phone usage was protectively associated with self-reported hypertension in a nationally representative sample of US adults

    Remote Health Monitoring IoT Framework using Machine Learning Prediction and Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Model

    Real intervention and treatment standards drew attention to remote health monitoring frameworks. Remote monitoring frameworks for disease detection at an early stage are opposed by most conventional works. Even so, it ran into issues like increased operational complexity, higher resource costs, inaccurate predictions, longer data collection times, and a lower convergence rate. A remote health monitoring framework that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to predict heart disease and diabetes from medical datasets is the goal of this project. Patients' health data is collected via smart devices, and the resulting data is then combined using a variety of nodes, including a detection node, a visualisation node, and a prognostic node. People with long-term illnesses (such as the elderly and disabled) are in such greater demand than ever before that a new approach to healthcare delivery is essential. In the evolved paradigm, conventional physical medical services foundations like clinics, nursing homes, and long haul care offices will be old. Due to recent advancements in modern technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the smart healthcare system has become increasingly necessary (ML). This paper will discuss wearable and smartphone technologies, AI for medical diagnostics, and assistive structures, including social robots, that have been created for the surrounding upheld living climate. The review presents programming reconciliation structures that are urgent for consolidating information examination and other man-made consciousness instruments to develop brilliant medical care frameworks (AI)

    An unusual case of huge hamartoma of breast in a 23 year old female: a case report

    Breast hamartoma is an underdiagnosed and poorly recognized rare benign lesion, accounting for approximately 4.8% of all benign breast lumps. There is lack of awareness of the characteristic clinical and histologic features of this entity in clinicians and pathologists. The pathogenesis of the development of breast hamartoma is still not fully understood. A 23-year-old female presented with a huge painless lump in right breast. The lump was present since last nine years. It was previously of the size of a bean, which rapidly increased to the present size during her pregnancy. FNAC revealed features of lipoma. However, on histopathological examination diagnosis of Hamartoma was rendered. A definitive diagnosis of hamartoma is hard to achieve on clinical examination, imaging studies and fine needle aspiration cytology. A correlation of histology, imaging findings with clinical impression is necessary

    Optimization and analysis of dry sliding wear behaviour of N-B4C/MOS2 unreinforced AA2219 nano hybrid composites using response surface methodology

    The effect of heat treatment on nano-size B4C particle reinforced hybrid composites is discussed in this paper. For this, hybrid reinforced AA2219 composites with 2% by weight nano B4C and 2% by weight MoS2 particulates were fabricated using a two-stage stir casting process, and the specimens were heat treated to assess their influence on wear behavior. Experiments were carried out to study the wear behavior by varying important factors such as aging temperature, load, and sliding distance. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) designed by Box-Behnken was used to identify the critical variables influencing wear rate and optimize wear behavior. To comprehend the wear mechanisms involved, an analysis of the worn surface was presented. Based on the analysis, a regression equation with a predictability of 97.2% was developed for the response to obtain the optimum wear rate. The following order effectively captures the relative importance of the various factors determining the alloy's wear resistance: sliding distance, load, and aging temperature. When compared to load and sliding distance, heat treatments via artificial aging in the temperature range of 200-240 °C have no significant effect on the wear resistance of hybrid AA2219 composites reinforced with n-B4C and MoS2 particulates. However, when a temperature range of 200-240 °C is considered, composites exhibit better wear resistance at the aging temperature of 240 °C with ice quenching
