TOPIC EVOLUTION OF INNOVATION ACADEMIC RESEARCHES
Innovation is an important issue of academic research for several decades. However, no comprehensive study in the trend of innovation topics is available. Therefore, this paper proceeds to review the innovation research. In general, the common methods for research review are content analysis, bibliometrics, and literature mining techniques, but these methods don’t provide a comprehensive viewpoint. Based on big data thinking, this study introduces Corpus-based Approach which makes the structural text database possible to extract the hidden knowledge through analyzing the text. This work uses 1,460 abstracts published from 1973 to 2015 in Journal of Business Research as the text. Moreover, the text is divided into two groups (1973-1995 and 1996-2015) to analyze the evolution of innovation research topics using WordSmith Tools with three main functions — Concord, WordList, and KeyWords. Finally, this study provides a basis for future academic research on innovation, and offers important references for industrial practices
From Lesson Plan to Observation to Self-Assessment in a Chinese as a Second Language Class
This portfolio is a compilation of what the author has learned in the field of Chinese as a second language in the Master of Second Language Teaching program at Utah State University. There are three main sections in the portfolio. The first section contains the author’s teaching philosophy statement, with a focus on the communicative approach, a game-based approach, and alternative assessment. The second section consists of a reflection on a classroom observation. The main paper presents how the author designed a lesson plan and implemented it, as well as her analysis and introspection on a video recording of the lesson
Clinical application of anterior segment optical coherence tomography for angle-closure related disease
AbstractAnterior segment optical coherence tomography has the ability to acquire angle-to-angle cross-sectional anterior chamber images in a non-contact way, and this technology shows a good reproducibility for angle parameters. With the availability of image processing software, some novel anatomic parameters such as iris area, iris volume, anterior chamber area, anterior chamber volume, anterior chamber width, and lens vault have been evaluated for the diagnosis of angle-closure related disease. This review article will describe the definitions of these interior segment optical coherence tomography parameters and summarize recent findings about these parameters in diagnosing angle-closure disease
Surface and Edge States in Topological Semi-metals
We study the topologically non-trivial semi-metals by means of the 6-band
Kane model. Existence of surface states is explicitly demonstrated by
calculating the LDOS on the material surface. In the strain free condition,
surface states are divided into two parts in the energy spectrum, one part is
in the direct gap, the other part including the crossing point of surface state
Dirac cone is submerged in the valence band. We also show how uni-axial strain
induces an insulating band gap and raises the crossing point from the valence
band into the band gap, making the system a true topological insulator. We
predict existence of helical edge states and spin Hall effect in the thin film
topological semi-metals, which could be tested with future experiment. Disorder
is found to significantly enhance the spin Hall effect in the valence band of
the thin films
