    STRESS, SMARTPHONE USE, LIFE SATISFACTION AND LEARNING PERFORMANCE: A STUDY AMONG YOUNG COLLEGE ADULTS

    Smartphone now days are come to be a common fragment of students’ life. Studies revealed that smartphone addiction caused psychological disorders and negatively affect mental health of learners. Current study aimed to examine the association between effects of smartphone use with life satisfaction intervened by stress and learning performance. It was also tried out to find the life satisfaction interceded by stress and learning performance encourages cell phone habit. To meet the set targets, a lump of 504 students enrolled at post graduate level from Bahawalpur were identified as sample of this study. The overview survey gathered demographic data and reactions to measures comprising the Smartphone Addiction Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, and theSatisfaction with Life Scale. The outcomes demonstrated that smartphone use was positively identified with stress, but adversely identified with life satisfaction. Furthermore, a smartphone usage was adversely identified with learning performance, but positively related with life satisfaction of young adult Pakistani students

The study examines the unsteady MHD Poiseuille oscillatory flow between the two infinite parallel porous plates in a magnetic field. The motion of two dimensional unsteady oscillatory flow of viscous, electrically, conducting, incompressible fluid flowing between two infinite parallel plates at constant pressure gradient was examined. The analytical expression for the fluid velocity obtained was expressed in terms of Hartmann number. The effects of the magnetic inclinations, Hartmann number, suction/injection and pressure gradient to the velocity are presented graphically. It was discovered that the increase in the Hartmann number and suction/injection leads to the increase in the velocity

    The effect of hydrogen on transient flow of hydrogen natural gas mixture

    Hydrogen is a high pressure gas, hence hydrogen natural gas mixture require an accurate prediction of transient flow parameter. The reduce order modelling is used in analysis of transient flow, where viscosity change is neglected thereby reducing the governing equations to Euler equation based on the assumption. The hydrogen natural gas mixture is homogenous, with pressure and velocity considered as principal dependent variable where polytrophic process is admitted. For improvement on the accurate prediction of flow parameters on the analysis of transient flow of hydrogen natural gas mixture in pipeline implicit Steger-Warming flux vector splitting method (FSM) used in the construction of efficient reduce order model. The result shows significant improvement on efficiency, accuracy and uniqueness when compared to normal conventional numerical techniques. The effect of heat transfer is observed on heat flux and internal energy of transient flow. The methods of reduced order with and without static correction show significant agreement for different gas ratio. The prediction of flow parameter along the pipeline can improvegas delivery and the analysis of transient flow behaviour at any point during the flow

    Young Adult Sarawakian Purchase Intention On Junk Food Based On Packaging Design Elements

    An effective proactive product promotion is much needed to compete in the today’s competitive global market. Together, the product packaging has come to play an important role to influence consumers’ purchasing intention. The purpose of this study is to examine consumers’ perceptions towards packaging design elements and to determine the most influential factors on their purchase intention. A survey was conducted using self-administered structured questionnaires from 385 young adult respondents in Kota Samarahan and Kuching, Sarawak. Two junk food packaging with different package designs and attributes were used in this study. Major results show that the packaging colour, graphic, size, shape, material, and information have significant relationship with purchase intention. The finding could provide important insights to marketers and food manufacturers to adopt an appropriate packaging strategy for junk food to attract more sales from this particular group of consumers

    SPOROBOLUS SPICATUS, A POTENTIAL TURF GRASS UNDER THE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS OF UAE

    Different accessions of Sporobolus spicatus were tested for the possible use in the landscaping sector of United Arab Emirates. In this regards, fifty accessions of S. spicatus were screened against five salinity levels of 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75dSm-1 at 3cm mowing height. Significant variations were found among the treatment for various characters of leaf colour, fresh and dry weight. Most of the accessions of the grass tolerated up to 45 dSm-1, without compromising on quality. Further increase in salinity, most of the accessions ceased to grow, except a few accessions which survived even at salinity levels of 75dSm-1. Many of the grasses exhibit better performance than Paspalam vaginatum, the prevailing commercial turf grass in UAE (used as control in this instance). As a whole accessions 45S, 18S, 35S and 37S showed salinity tolerance at 3cm mowing height and maintaining quality up to the acceptable level. Based on their tolerance to salinity and better performance, these accessions are recommended for turf use in public landscaping

    Review of intelligence for additive and subtractive manufacturing: current status and future prospects

    Additive manufacturing (AM), an enabler of Industry 4.0, recently opened limitless possibilities in various sectors covering personal, industrial, medical, aviation and even extra-terrestrial applications. Although significant research thrust is prevalent on this topic, a detailed review covering the impact, status, and prospects of artificial intelligence (AI) in the manufacturing sector has been ignored in the literature. Therefore, this review provides comprehensive information on smart mechanisms and systems emphasizing additive, subtractive and/or hybrid manufacturing processes in a collaborative, predictive, decisive, and intelligent environment. Relevant electronic databases were searched, and 248 articles were selected for qualitative synthesis. Our review suggests that significant improvements are required in connectivity, data sensing, and collection to enhance both subtractive and additive technologies, though the pervasive use of AI by machines and software helps to automate processes. An intelligent system is highly recommended in both conventional and non-conventional subtractive manufacturing (SM) methods to monitor and inspect the workpiece conditions for defect detection and to control the machining strategies in response to instantaneous output. Similarly, AM product quality can be improved through the online monitoring of melt pool and defect formation using suitable sensing devices followed by process control using machine learning (ML) algorithms. Challenges in implementing intelligent additive and subtractive manufacturing systems are also discussed in the article. The challenges comprise difficulty in self-optimizing CNC systems considering real-time material property and tool condition, defect detections by in-situ AM process monitoring, issues of overfitting and underfitting data in ML models and expensive and complicated set-ups in hybrid manufacturing processes

    Effects of a high-dose 24-h infusion of tranexamic acid on death and thromboembolic events in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding (HALT-IT): an international randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

    Background: Tranexamic acid reduces surgical bleeding and reduces death due to bleeding in patients with trauma. Meta-analyses of small trials show that tranexamic acid might decrease deaths from gastrointestinal bleeding. We aimed to assess the effects of tranexamic acid in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding. Methods: We did an international, multicentre, randomised, placebo-controlled trial in 164 hospitals in 15 countries. Patients were enrolled if the responsible clinician was uncertain whether to use tranexamic acid, were aged above the minimum age considered an adult in their country (either aged 16 years and older or aged 18 years and older), and had significant (defined as at risk of bleeding to death) upper or lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients were randomly assigned by selection of a numbered treatment pack from a box containing eight packs that were identical apart from the pack number. Patients received either a loading dose of 1 g tranexamic acid, which was added to 100 mL infusion bag of 0·9% sodium chloride and infused by slow intravenous injection over 10 min, followed by a maintenance dose of 3 g tranexamic acid added to 1 L of any isotonic intravenous solution and infused at 125 mg/h for 24 h, or placebo (sodium chloride 0·9%). Patients, caregivers, and those assessing outcomes were masked to allocation. The primary outcome was death due to bleeding within 5 days of randomisation; analysis excluded patients who received neither dose of the allocated treatment and those for whom outcome data on death were unavailable. This trial was registered with Current Controlled Trials, ISRCTN11225767, and ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01658124. Findings: Between July 4, 2013, and June 21, 2019, we randomly allocated 12 009 patients to receive tranexamic acid (5994, 49·9%) or matching placebo (6015, 50·1%), of whom 11 952 (99·5%) received the first dose of the allocated treatment. Death due to bleeding within 5 days of randomisation occurred in 222 (4%) of 5956 patients in the tranexamic acid group and in 226 (4%) of 5981 patients in the placebo group (risk ratio [RR] 0·99, 95% CI 0·82–1·18). Arterial thromboembolic events (myocardial infarction or stroke) were similar in the tranexamic acid group and placebo group (42 [0·7%] of 5952 vs 46 [0·8%] of 5977; 0·92; 0·60 to 1·39). Venous thromboembolic events (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) were higher in tranexamic acid group than in the placebo group (48 [0·8%] of 5952 vs 26 [0·4%] of 5977; RR 1·85; 95% CI 1·15 to 2·98). Interpretation: We found that tranexamic acid did not reduce death from gastrointestinal bleeding. On the basis of our results, tranexamic acid should not be used for the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding outside the context of a randomised trial

    EFFECT OF VARIOUS INSECTICIDES FOR THE CONTROL OF POTATO CUTWORM (Agrotis ipsilon Huf., NOCTUIDAE: LEPIDOPTERA) AT KALAM SWAT

    ABSTRACT Studies were carried out on the management of potato cut worm, Agrotis ipsilon, through chemical insecticides; Steward (Indoxycarb), Linnate (Methomyl) and Poison Bait (Dipterex +Sugar + Rice husk) on permanent plots of potato crop at Kalam Swat, NWFP on private farm during 2002. The insecticides were applied at recommended doses, before the appearance of adult moths of black cut worm (Agrotis ipsilon) and then subsequent symptoms of the cutworm larvae in the potato plots. The data were collected by counting the number of damage plants or plant parts by potato cutworm at the interval of 2-days, 3days, 5 days and 12 days after treatment. The results showed that insecticides were non significant to each other but significantly different from control. Seasonal mean infestation was the highest (11.5%) in the check plot, while the lowest (1.3%) in poison bait followed by Lannate (1.6%) and then by steward (1.8%). Poison bait application is laborious but still effective and comparatively safe, it is, there for, suggested it could be incorporated in the IPM of potato for minimum and target use of pesticide

    Accidental poisoning with aluminum phosphide presenting with excessive cholinergic symptoms with response to atropine: A case report

    Accidental poisoning in children, though underreported in our environment, is common and could prove fatal. It is important to identify the primary chemical agent that is responsible for the poisoning. We present a case of accidental ingestion of fish poisoned with aluminum phosphide (AlP) used as rat poisoning by a 14-month-old girl. At presentation, the actual chemical content of the poison was not available and clinical features were suggestive of organophosphate poisoning. She was commenced on atropine together with other treatment, on which she made remarkable improvement. The atropine was continued with complete resolution of symptoms on the third day of admission. We, therefore, report a serendipitous use of atropine in the management of AlP poisoning with successful outcome
