Detection of human papillomavirus DNA in intraosseus ameloblastoma
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection has been shown as a risk factor in oral carcinogenesis. The association between HPV and benign and malignant neoplasm of oral mucosa, especially surface epithelium-derived tumors, is well established. The role of HPV in pathogenesis of odontogenic cysts and tumors has been published in few articles. The aim of this study was detection of HPV in Iranian patients with intrabony ameloblastoma and investigation of specific risk factors associated with ameloblastoma. One hundred intrabony ameloblastoma and 50 age-sex matched samples as controls were evaluated by polymerase chain reaction for the detection and typing of HPV. Fisher exact and chi square tests were used to assess the data. HPV DNA was detected in 32% of patients and 10% of controls. HPV-6 was the most prevalent genotype (31.6%) in infected cases. It was followed by HPV-11 (12.5%), HPV-16 (12.5%) and HPV-31 (3.1%). We found a significant association between presence of HPV and location of tumor (p = 0.02), traumatic history (p = 0.03) and ododontic therapy (p = 0.01). These findings indicated that HPV-6 probably is one of the most important etiologic agents in causing intraosseous ameloblastoma in Iranian population. © 2006 Academic Journals Inc., USA
Comparing the Effects of Sulfasalazine and Shilajit on Liver Damage Caused by Acetic Acid-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Male Rats
Background and Objective: Liver damage is one of the common complications after ulcerative colitis. The aim of this study is to compare liver protective effects of sulfasalazine and shilajit after ulcerative colitis.
Methods: In this experimental intervention study, 49 male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 grams were used in seven groups of 7: sham, ulcerative colitis, oral solution, oral Shilajit, sulfasalazine, rectal solution, and rectal Shilajit. To induce ulcerative colitis, after anesthetizing the animal, 2 cc of acetic acid (4%) was used by rectal administration. Four days after the development of colitis, Shilajit was administered for four days at a dose of 250 mg/kg by gavage and rectal methods. In each group, the levels of liver enzymes (SGPT, SGOT, ALP), direct bilirubin, total, and serum albumin were evaluated eight days after the induction of ulcerative colitis.
Findings: Sulfasalazine decreased total bilirubin (0.5967±0.04) and SGOT (113.3±12.7). Administering Shilajit rectally reduced direct bilirubin (0.10±0.02), albumin (3.17±0.2), SGOT (156.2±12.7) and administering Shilajit by gavage reduced SGOT (125.0±12.7), direct bilirubin (0.094±0.02), SGOT (125.0±12.7) and SGPT (93.8±7.5).
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that oral administration of Shilajit has more protective effects on liver damage caused by ulcerative colitis than rectal Shilajit, and this result is comparable to sulfasalazine
Quranic-Intellectual Recitation of the Truth of the Religion Perfection, Considering the Necessity of Internal and External Compatibility of the Third Verse of Surah Ma'idah, along with a Critique of Sunni Views
The perfection verse (third verse of Surah Ma'idah) is one of the most important verses of the Qur'an in the guardianship and Imamate discussion, in which the sects generally refer to the following interpretive narrations in explaining it while there is a lot of controversies. Shiite narrations consider the verse revelation on the day of Ghadir and about the guardianship of Imam Ali (PBUH), but the Sunnis deny this. In this article, for the first time, by categorizing the views of the Sunnis and considering the necessity of internal compatibility of the content of the verse and external compatibility with other verses and the intellectual necessities and without quoting narrations, is proven that the perfection of religion is possible only with Imamate and Wilayah with a novel style; and this is the Shiite vote. This research easily refuted all the possibilities mentioned in Sunni sources by the mentioned method and without the need to enter into the usual disputes in the interpretation of the verse. Recognize the time of verse revelation and proving the scope and territory of the Imamate and the Imam’s conditions are other results of this research
Modeling Local Energy Market for Energy Management of Multi-Microgrids
The diffusion of distributed energy resources (DERs) has changed the supply-demand balance of power systems. One option to modernize the management of the electricity distribution is to operate the distribution system with interconnected micro-grids (MGs). However, the MG participation in wholesale energy and ancillary service markets creates several challenges in the interactions among the energy market managing entities. To solve these problems, local energy markets (LEMs) have been proposed, where the MGs can trade energy with each other under the management of the LEM manager (LEMM) to minimize their operation cost. In this paper, a local energy market is modeled for multi-MGs (MMGs) to minimize the operation cost of MGs individually and their social welfare in cooperation with each other. In such model, the optimal scheduling of the DERs in each MG is done through the market clearing process. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the local energy market is applied to a distribution network with three MGs
The quality of life in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy
We conducted a study to evaluate the quality of life in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy aged 8–18 years, compared with that in matched healthy controls. A total of 85 boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy aged 8–18 years and 136 age, sex and living place matched healthy controls were included in this study. Patients and one of their parents separately completed the 27-item Persian version of KIDSCREEN questionnaire (child and adolescent version and parent version). From the children's perspective, the quality of life in patients was found to be lower in two subclasses: “physical activities and health” (p < 0.001) and “friends” (p = 0.005). Parental estimation of their sick child's quality of life was significantly lower than children's own assessment in two subclasses: “physical activities and health” (p < 0.001) and “general mood and feelings” (p < 0.001). Our results indicate that boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy have quite a satisfactory quality of life. A happier and more hopeful life can be promoted through increasing social support and improving the parental knowledge regarding their child's more positive life perspective. © 2016 Elsevier B.V
The Serum Changes of Neuron-Specific Enolase and Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 in Patients With Diffuse Axonal Injury Following Progesterone Administration: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: Improvement of neurologic outcome in progesterone-administered patients with diffuse axonal injury (DAI) has been found in a recent study. Also, there has been interest in the importance of serum parameters as predictors of outcome in traumatic brain injury.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of progesterone administration on serum levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in clinical DAI.
Patients and Methods: In this study, the serum levels of ICAM-1 and NSE of 32 male DAI patients (18 - 60 years of age, a Glasgow coma scale of 12 or less, and admitted within 4 hours after injury) who were randomized for a controlled phase II trial of progesterone were analyzed. The analysis was performed between the control and progesterone groups at admission time, and 24 hours and six days after DAI, respectively.
Results: A reduction in the serum level of ICAM-1 was noticed in the progesterone group 24 hours after the injury (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the serum level of NSE between the study groups during evaluation. At 24 hours after the injury, the level of ICAM-1 in the control group was higher than that at admission time (P < 0.05). The lowest level of NSE in the two groups was seen six days after DAI (P < 0.01).
Conclusions: In summary, progesterone administration reduced serum ICAM-1, and whereby may attenuate blood brain barrier disruption, the latter needs further investigation for confirmation

Study on population increase parameters of greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Hem.: Aphididae), on common wheat varieties in Varamin region, Iran
The biology of greenbug, Schizaphis graminum Rondani, one of the most important pests of cereals in Varamin region of Iran, was studied in laboratory at 20 ± 1ËC, 60-70% R.H. and a photoperiod of 16: 8 (L: D) hours. The experiment was carried out by rearing aphids on the leaves of six common wheat varieties including: Mahdavi, Kavir, Niknezhad, Azadi, Tabasi, and Ghods using leaf cages. The nymphal development time, mortality, longevity and adult fertility of the aphid were recorded daily. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm), finite rate of increase (λ), and doubling time (DT) parameters were calculated. Results revealed that nymphal mortality rate was very low resembling that on sensitive wheat varieties. The aphid had relatively high longevity and short nymphal development time on all mentioned wheat varieties. The lowest aphid fertility rate was obtained on Kavir comparing to the fertility yielded on Mahdavi and Tabasi that was significantly higher (P < 0.01). Estimation of the intrinsic rate of increase revealed that the wheat varieties studied were susceptible to aphid, for the reason that the aphid population increased by constant exponential rate of 0.252-0.310 female/female/day. This showed high population increase potential at suitable conditions in the absence of natural enemies. Results proved that the Niknezhad, Tabasi and Ghods were the most suitable wheat varieties for rearing the aphid. The lowest rate of fertility, intrinsic rate of increase, and finite rate of increase, and the longest doubling time of aphid population were observed on Kavir, due to lower fecundity and longer nymphal development period. Therefore, the aphid population increase potential on Kavir was lower than that on the other varieties and so, expansion of sowing Kavir in Varamin region most probably may not result in aphid population increase
Adolescents' perspectives on addiction: Qualitative study
Given that the adolescence period is one of the most crucial stages of development during one's lifetime and adolescents are prone to engage in behaviors which may negatively impact their health, it is very important to have a clear and transparent understanding of adolescents' health needs and problems. A content analysis with a qualitative approach was conducted and 41 healthy adolescents were interviewed. The results of this study revealed the following themes: addiction causes and prevalence; unhealthy friendship and communication and increased rates of cigarette smoking; alcohol and drugs; barriers to and factors in addiction and health; family and addiction. The findings showed worrying attitudes of adolescents to addiction and its prevalence are alarming. It is concluded that exploring adolescents' perspectives is not only important but is useful for maintaining a healthy society, and thus policy makers should develop effective prevention and intervention programs based on these themes
