    Hydatid cyst of the kidney: a case report and review of the literature

    Primary involvement of the kidney is rare in case of hydatid disease. We present a case of primary left renal hydatid cyst in a 40 year old female patient admitted with left lumbar pain radiating to the back. Computed tomography of the patient was done and was suggestive of hydatid cyst involving the lower pole of the left kidney. The cyst was managed by left Nephrectomy with open surgical excision and preoperative course of Albendazole. This case emphasizes on better detection and evaluation of such rare cases to identify better treatment strategies

    Purpose: Sales department is one of the most important verticals for any organization it has a direct impact on both the top-line and the bottom-line of the organisation. Sales leadership has an important role to play to drive the sales executives to achieve the organisational agenda. Hence, it becomes important to maintain a positive relationship between sales managers and the sales executives. so this study is to find out the impact of the leadership style of the sales managers on the performance of the sales team.   Theoretical Framework: This conceptual framework identifies major components like leadership, sales team & manager. The study focuses on the two major companies of the BFSI industry. The industry has performed well in past few years and the ICICI group of companies has been a major player in the industry.   Design/Methodology/approach: The conceptual framework has been proposed after identifying the components that are significant & analyses leadership style in two major domains – People Oriented Leaders and Task Oriented Leaders.   Findings: The components identified for this study & can be considered to have an influence on success.   Research, Practical and Social implication: The model attempts to achieve     a good fitment of sales managers and sales teams in order to achieve continued good results.   Originality/Value: This article is a contribution to the industry has performed well in past few years and the ICICI group of companies

    Assessment of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among undergraduate medical students of a tertiary care teaching hospital, Surat: a source of profound concern

    Background: The discussion around COVID-19 vaccines has been in the limelight ever since the announcement was made for mass vaccination campaign in India. Less is known about undergraduate medical students’ perception and willingness towards getting COVID-19 vaccination. The aim of the study was to assess reasons for the apprehension if present towards taking the COVID-19 vaccines among medical students and to spread awareness about the ongoing issue.Methods: This was a prospective, cross sectional, survey-based study which was conducted at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER), Surat, Gujarat, India. Questionnaire was distributed among medical students during lectures and exam going students were sent Google form link. Data collection was done from February to March 2021, and 550 students submitted the forms.Results: While 34.9% students had taken the vaccine voluntarily, category I (acceptance group); 18.2% students were initially hesitant to take the vaccine, but later took it, category II (hesitant group); the frequency increased to 46.9% students who are still hesitant and have not taken the vaccine, category III (refusal group). Top reasons for hesitancy were: concern regarding adverse events (69%), safety (60%) and lack of scientific data (27%) provided for the vaccines.Conclusions: This study revealed that there was lack of knowledge and positive attitude towards the COVID-19 vaccines among the non-vaccinated students. This evaluation has guided the importance and the need of targeted educational program to address the knowledge gap

    Engaging parents to promote girls\u27 transition to secondary education: Evidence from a cluster randomised trial in rural Gujarat, India

    The Population Council and partners, with the support of the Human Dignity Foundation and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, implemented a pilot intervention in India─Project Sankalp─to assess the acceptability and feasibility of engaging parents and communities to promote girls’ secondary education. The project\u27s aim was to measure its effectiveness in improving adolescent girls’ transition to secondary education, their attendance at school, and learning outcomes. Findings show that the effect of Project Sankalp on creating an enabling environment for girls to pursue secondary education was mixed. On the positive side, the project showed success in raising girls’ educational aspirations; improving parental support for their secondary education; and raising girls’ awareness of school management committees. However, there was no evidence of any effect on girls’ agency in matters concerning their schooling, awareness and utilization of the benefits available from school, and the time committed to school-related activities. These findings underscore the need for a longer-term engagement with girls and their parents than was possible in Project Sankalp, or for more intensive efforts that will enable girls to make effective use of the knowledge and skills they gain, and give parents more time to translate the messages they receive into real life practices

    The use and measurement of communication self-efficacy techniques in a UK undergraduate accounting course

    This research contributes to helping educational establishments across the world develop self-efficacy techniques to improve communication skills within an accounting course design and other disciplines. This paper asks the research question: Does self-efficacy enhances accounting students’ communication ability? Previous research has identified the business community requiring accountants to display high levels of communication ability. However, despite many deliberate pedagogical interventions over the years, communication skills are lacking in graduating accounting students. This paper describes a new approach of deliberate self-efficacy interventions in one UK university’s undergraduate accounting curriculum to improve accounting students’ communication ability.     Supporting girls in their transition to secondary education: An exploratory study of the family, school and community environments of adolescent girls in Gujarat

    Despite government commitment to universal secondary education in India, few adolescents transition to and successfully complete secondary education. In India, limited efforts have been directed at parents to promote positive attitudes toward education and school completion. Recognizing the need for identifying effective intervention strategies to engage parents and communities to promote secondary education for girls, the Population Council and partners are pilot-testing an intervention to support adolescent girls’ transition to and retention in secondary education. Located in the state of Gujarat, the intervention focuses on girls in the last year of primary school and first year of secondary school and their parents as well as teachers and the wider community. The school experiences of adolescent girls, and the family, school, and community environments in which they are pursuing their studies, described in this report, draw on a baseline survey conducted in 90 villages in Gujarat. The objective was to explore school experiences of adolescent girls in the last year of primary and first year of secondary school, and assess the extent to which a supportive environment for schooling was available to them at the family, school, and community levels

    Barriers to Treatment Compliance of Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse among Pulmunary Tuberculosis Patients.

    Treatment compliance is an important aspect for tuberculosis prevention and control. Poor compliance to treatment can lead to the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis. The aim of this study was to explore the factors affecting treatment compliance for tuberculosis patients. Facility based unmatched case control study was done among the forty non-compliance and eighty compliance pulmonary tuberculosis patients registered at selected directly observed treatment short-course centers of six districts. Data were collected using in-depth interview guideline with the tuberculosis focal person and Focus Group Discussion with tuberculosis patients. A total of 120 respondents, 40 cases and 80 controls were enrolled in the study. About 72.5% of the cases and 56.2% of the controls were male. Five significant independent risk factors for non-compliance to TB treatment were identified. The qualitative session confirmed geographical barriers, inaccessibility to health facility, economic barriers, difficulty in convincing people, knowledge about Directly observed treatment shortcourse program, longer medication period, migration and stigma as a major barrier for treatment compliance. Wider ranges of barriers are prevalent in context of tuberculosis treatment pathway and outcome. Knowledge of the tuberculosis patients and attitude of the family plays a vital role in treatment compliance. Directly observed treatment shortcourse playing tremendous role to ensure treatment adherence has been identified as major barrier to adherence as well. Enablers of adherence need to be emphasized to address the barriers

    Health-related quality of life and pain with selinexor in patients with advanced dedifferentiated liposarcoma

    [Objective] Compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of selinexor versus placebo in patients with dedifferentiated liposarcoma.[Materials & methods] HRQoL was assessed at baseline and day 1 of each cycle using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer 30-item core quality of life questionnaire. Results were reported from baseline to day 169 (where exposure to treatment was maximized while maintaining adequate sample size).[Results] Pain scores worsened for placebo versus selinexor across all postbaseline visits, although differences in HRQoL at some visits were not significant. Other domains did not exhibit significant differences between arms; however, scores in both arms deteriorated over time.[Conclusion] Patients treated with selinexor reported lower rates and slower worsening of pain compared with patients who received placebo.This study was funded by Karyopharm Therapeutics, Inc.
