    Integrating Vehicle-to-Grid Technologies in Autonomous Electric Vehicle Systems

    Electrochemical Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies in autonomous electric vehicles (EVs) offer immense potential to revolutionize energy management and optimize the utilization of EVs. By enabling bidirectional energy flow between EVs and the electric grid, V2G allows EVs not only to consume electricity but also to contribute power back to the grid when necessary. When combined with autonomous capabilities, V2G can provide even greater benefits and flexibility. This research abstract highlights key points concerning V2G technologies in autonomous EVs. Firstly, autonomous EVs equipped with V2G technology can function as mobile energy storage units, aiding in grid stabilization and balancing high electricity demand. Secondly, V2G-enabled autonomous EVs can participate in demand response programs, optimizing charging schedules to off-peak hours and reducing strain on the grid during peak demand. Moreover, V2G facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources by allowing autonomous EVs to store and inject excess renewable energy into the grid when needed. Furthermore, V2G-enabled autonomous EVs act as backup power sources during emergencies or power outages, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to critical infrastructure. By participating in V2G programs, autonomous EV owners can generate revenue by selling stored energy to the grid and providing grid services, offsetting EV ownership costs. Additionally, autonomous EVs with V2G technology can intelligently manage their charging and discharging based on factors like electricity prices, grid demand, and user preferences, thereby optimizing energy usage and reducing charging costs. While the widespread adoption of V2G technologies in autonomous EVs hinges on infrastructure development, standardization, regulatory frameworks, and user acceptance, their integration is poised to play a significant role in future sustainable energy and transportation systems. As autonomous and electric vehicle technologies continue to evolve, V2G capabilities hold tremendous promise in transforming energy management, promoting grid reliability, and maximizing the benefits of EVs for both consumers and the grid

    Effect of Inhalation of Aromatherapy Oil on Patients with Perennial Allergic Rhinitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    This study aimed to investigate the effects of aromatherapy oil inhalation on symptoms, quality of life, sleep quality, and fatigue level among adults with perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR). Fifty-four men and women aged between 20 and 60 were randomized to inhale aromatherapy oil containing essential oil from sandalwood, geranium, and Ravensara or almond oil (the placebo) for 5 minutes twice daily for 7 days. PAR symptoms determined by Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS), the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ), sleep quality by Verran Synder-Halpern (VSH) scale, and fatigue level by Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS) were assessed before and after intervention period. Compared with the placebo, the experimental group showed significant improvement in TNSS, especially in nasal obstruction. The aromatherapy group also showed significantly higher improvements in total score of RQLQ and CFS. These findings indicate that inhalation of certain aromatherapy oil helps relieve PAR symptoms, improve rhinitis-specific quality of life, and reduce fatigue in patients with PAR. In conclusion, inhalation of aromatherapy essential oil may have potential as an effective intervention to alleviate PAR

    Development Of River Recreation Index Model Reflecting Fuzziness In Water Quality Data

    Recreational activities in rivers are gaining popularities in Korea due to increase of household income and rehabilitation of riverside. As a lot of people enjoy recreation in water, proper information on the water quality of rivers should be provided to the public in order to secure the safety of publics. In this research, a River Recreation Index (RRI) model was developed based on fuzzy set theory. RRI is the integrated index of important water quality parameters related to recreational activities in rivers and expressed as point from 0 to 100. The fuzzy synthetic evaluation approach was used to reflect the fuzziness of water quality criteria and uncertainty in water quality data. The procedure of the fuzzy synthetic evaluation is divided into four steps: choosing water quality parameters which are integrated into RRI, classifying the range of each water quality parameter, designing appropriate membership function of each parameter, and summarizing all membership value into the RRI. In this study, DO, pH, chlorophyll a and turbidity were chosen as the parameters and the criteria of these four parameters were determined referring domestic and overseas water quality criteria. Membership function in the model was determined as half-triangular shape because it expressed the fuzziness of water quality criteria well. The values of four water quality parameters were converted to membership value by the half-triangular membership function. Then, RRI was calculated by weighted average of the membership values. The proposed model was applied to Sangdong monitoring station in the Nakdong River, Korea. The application result was compared with both the calculation results based on the crisp water quality criteria and real time water quality index (RTWQI) posted by the Ministry of Environment. The simulation results show that RRI with the fuzzy function showed more reasonable changes corresponding to the trend of the water quality parameters

    The arrival of many Yemeni people on Jeju Island in 2018 to seek asylum became a mega-political issue in South Korea. This article investigates two questions. First, how and why have Yemeni asylum seekers suddenly become the focus of securitization concerns in South Korea? And second, how have these concerns affected the governments responses? We argue that three key factors—the influence of media on the refugee crisis in Europe, the Yemenis race, gender, and religious background, and South Koreas internal political and economic situation—have intersected with each other and produced the securitization of Yemeni migration. Amidst highly contested political debates on the protection of forced migrants in South Korea, the state has strictly controlled the border but showed contradictory refugee policies

    Imbalanced media portrayal: a content analysis of precision medicine in US news of 2015–2021

    IntroductionEngaging diverse participants is vital to precision medicine (PM) but has been limited by low knowledge and concerns about various issues related to PM research. News media is an important channel of information that can shape public understanding and perception of PM. However, how PM is represented in news media has not been sufficiently understood.MethodsThe study used quantitative content analysis to evaluate the portrayal of PM in US print news media between 2015 and 2021 (N = 198). Three domains of factors related to PM portrayed in news articles were coded: (1) characteristics of PM, (2) target diseases of PM and their related characteristics, and (3) non-scientific news frames.ResultsThere was considerable news coverage of the treatment benefits of PM, especially for cancer. Potential risks or concerns, non-cancer diseases, and non-treatment issues that could be important to diverse populations were less covered. News articles frequently cited scientists, patients, and government officials with different focuses on PM.DiscussionThe study highlighted the need for accurate and complete information about PM in news media for diverse participants. News media should actively explore social, ethical, and legal issues to support the engagement of diverse populations

    Acute respiratory distress after metofluthrin insecticide ingestion in a 19-month-old girl

    Metofluthrin is a volatile pyrethroid insecticide. Despite being widely used as a safe household insecticide, it could cause severe systemic symptoms. A 19-month-old girl was taken to the emergency department after ingesting 1 mL of a mosquito repellent containing metofluthrin. After the arrival, the girl developed respiratory distress, which worsened progressively despite the administration of oxygen with nebulized salbutamol and budesonide. Additionally, she underwent application of high-flow nasal cannula, and administration of activated charcoal and systemic steroids. Her dyspnea gradually improved, and she was thus discharged on day 4 with oral prednisolone. All medications were discontinued 10 days after the discharge without any complication. Respiratory distress can develop after the ingestion of even a small amount of metofluthrin. Symptomatic and adjunctive steroid therapies can be effective therapeutic options

    YAF2 promotes TP53-mediated genotoxic stress response via stabilization of PDCD5

    AbstractProgrammed cell death 5 (PDCD5) plays a crucial role in TP53-mediated apoptosis, but the regulatory mechanism of PDCD5 itself during apoptosis remains obscure. We identified YY1-associated factor 2 (YAF2) as a novel PDCD5-interacting protein in a yeast two-hybrid screen for PDCD5-interacting proteins. We found that YY1-associated factor 2 (YAF2) binds to and increases PDCD5 stability by inhibiting the ubiquitin-dependent proteosomal degradation pathway. However, knocking-down of YAF2 diminishes the levels of PDCD5 protein but not the levels of PDCD5 mRNA. Upon genotoxic stress response, YAF2 promotes TP53 activation via association with PDCD5. Strikingly, YAF2 failed to promote TP53 activation in the deletion of PDCD5, whereas restoration of wild-type PDCD5WT efficiently reversed the ineffectiveness of YAF2 on TP53 activation. Conversely, PDCD5 efficiently overcame the knockdown effect of YAF2 on ET-induced TP53 activation. Finally, impaired apoptosis upon PDCD5 ablation was substantially rescued by restoration of PDCD5WT but not YAF2-interacting defective PDCD5E4D nor TP53-interacting defective PDCD5E16D mutant. Our findings uncovered an apoptotic signaling cascade linking YAF2, PDCD5, and TP53 during genotoxic stress responses
