Using Column Generation to Solve Extensions to the Markowitz Model

We introduce a solution scheme for portfolio optimization problems with cardinality constraints. Typical portfolio optimization problems are extensions of the classical Markowitz mean-variance portfolio optimization model. We solve such type of problems using a method similar to column generation. In this scheme, the original problem is restricted to a subset of the assets resulting in a master convex quadratic problem. Then the dual information of the master problem is used in a sub-problem to propose more assets to consider. We also consider other extensions to the Markowitz model to diversify the portfolio selection within the given intervals for active weights.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, 1 pseudocod

Through his work, the Creator conveys the messages and ideas he has felt or intended to go to society. It is the characters who help the readers to convey their point of view to the readers. Thoughts are the main factor that determines life If the thought is strong, we have to live the life of action in its course and fear it. The purpose of this article is to explore how the female story characters that may feature in the collection of short stories, Poems That Kanalil Pootha Kavithaigal, are arranged

Analysis of Link Availability in FSO-OFDM System under Various Climatic Conditions

    Get PDF
Free Space Optics (FSO) is an emerging solution for the last mile broad band connectivity where deployment of fiber is expensive. This wireless technology has attracted the researchers due to the ease of erecting along the windows and terrace and the abundant bandwidth available in the unlicensed band. Combining OFDM with FSO gives a hybrid technique - OFDM based FSO or FSO-OFDM in which OFDM symbol modulates the light that passes through free space. Various predictable and unpredictable phenomena cause variation in the light that causes the fading effect of the received signal. Besides the atmospheric effect, the signal power varies within the symbol. The link availability has been calculated by setting threshold power at the receiver. The simulation of the OFDM based FSO system under three climatic conditions namely summer, winter and rainy has been observed that shows the link availability is 99.3% for summer, 98.32% for winter and 98.99% for rainy condition. Under worst climatic condition link availability is 98.17%. Thus FSO- OFDM is able to provide better connectivity even under any atmospheric condition

Visible and infrared photocurrent enhancement in a graphene-silicon Schottky photodetector through surface-states and electric field engineering

The design of efficient graphene-silicon (GSi) Schottky junction photodetectors requires detailed understanding of the spatial origin of the photoresponse. Scanning-photocurrent-microscopy (SPM) studies have been carried out in the visible wavelengths regions only, in which the response due to silicon is dominant. Here we present comparative SPM studies in the visible (λ\lambda = 633nm) and infrared (λ\lambda = 1550nm) wavelength regions for a number of GSi Schottky junction photodetector architectures, revealing the photoresponse mechanisms for silicon and graphene dominated responses, respectively, and demonstrating the influence of electrostatics on the device performance. Local electric field enhancement at the graphene edges leads to a more than ten-fold increased photoresponse compared to the bulk of the graphene-silicon junction. Intentional design and patterning of such graphene edges is demonstrated as an efficient strategy to increase the overall photoresponse of the devices. Complementary simulations and modeling illuminate observed effects and highlight the importance of considering graphene's shape and pattern and device geometry in the device design

A Power Quality Improvement for Microgrid Inverter Operated in Grid Connected and Grid Disconnected Modes

The renewable energy based distributed generators (DGs) will plays a dominant role in electricity production. A micro grid consists of clusters of load and distributed generators that operate as a single controllable system. The interconnection of the DG to the utility/grid through power electronic converters has raised concern about safe operation and protection of the equipments. The main objective of this paper is too focused on the power quality improvement in micro grid. In the distributed power system, the increased infiltration of nonlinear loads and power electronic interfaced distribution generation systems creates power quality issues such as voltage unbalance, frequency regulation and harmonic elimination
