Finite-Blocklength Bounds for Wiretap Channels
This paper investigates the maximal secrecy rate over a wiretap channel
subject to reliability and secrecy constraints at a given blocklength. New
achievability and converse bounds are derived, which are shown to be tighter
than existing bounds. The bounds also lead to the tightest second-order coding
rate for discrete memoryless and Gaussian wiretap channels.Comment: extended version of a paper submitted to ISIT 201
Cross-Section Fluctuations in Chaotic Scattering
For the theoretical prediction of cross-section fluctuations in chaotic
scattering, the cross-section autocorrelation function is needed. That function
is not known analytically. Using experimental data and numerical simulations,
we show that an analytical approximation to the cross-section autocorrelation
function can be obtained with the help of expressions first derived by Davis
and Boose. Given the values of the average S-matrix elements and the mean level
density of the scattering system, one can then reliably predict cross-section
fluctuations
The Late Time Light Curve of SN 1998bw Associated with GRB980425
We report 139 photometric observations through the B, V, and I filters of the
supernova SN 1998bw, an object which is associated with the Gamma-Ray Burst GRB
980425. Detailed light curves of this unique supernova can be compared to
theoretical models, so we report here our light curve for 123 days between 27
June 1998 and 28 October 1998. The light curve of SN 1988bw is consistent with
those of the Type Ic class. We find that the magnitude-versus-time relation for
this supernova is linear to within 0.05 mags in all colors over the entire
duration of our study. Our measured uniform decline rates are , , and magnitudes per day in the
B, V, and I bands. The linear decline and the rate of that decline suggest that
late time light curve is powered by the radioactive decay of cobalt with some

Exceptional Points in a Microwave Billiard with Time-Reversal Invariance Violation
We report on the experimental study of an exceptional point (EP) in a
dissipative microwave billiard with induced time-reversal invariance (T)
violation. The associated two-state Hamiltonian is non-Hermitian and
non-symmetric. It is determined experimentally on a narrow grid in a parameter
plane around the EP. At the EP the size of T violation is given by the relative
phase of the eigenvector components. The eigenvectors are adiabatically
transported around the EP, whereupon they gather geometric phases and in
addition geometric amplitudes different from unity
