    Kaon Condensation and the Non-Uniform Nuclear Matter

    Non-uniform structures of nuclear matter are studied in a wide density-range. Using the density functional theory with a relativistic mean-field model, we examine non-uniform structures at sub-nuclear densities (nuclear ``pastas'') and at high densities, where kaon condensate is expected. We try to give a unified view about the change of the matter structure as density increases, carefully taking into account the Coulomb screening effects from the viewpoint of first-order phase transition.Comment: Presented at "Tours Symposium on Nuclear Physics V

    Coulomb screening effect on the nuclear-pasta structure

    Using the density functional theory (DFT) with the relativistic mean field (RMF) model, we study the non-uniform state of nuclear matter, ``nuclear pasta''. We self-consistently include the Coulomb interaction together with other interactions. It is found that the Coulomb screening effect is significant for each pasta structure but not for the bulk equation of state (EOS) of the nuclear pasta phase

    Poly[(benzo[1,2-d:5,4-d']bissthiazole-2,6-diyl)-1,4-phenylene](cis-PBZT)with a relatively high molecular weight was prepared by a new synthesis route. Properties of the synthesized polymer, such as thermostability, liquid crystallinity etc. were investigated and compared with those of trans-PBZT. cis-PBZT was crystallized from dilute solution and the electron microscopy showed that the precipitate was a rod-like crystal similar to that of trans form. In spite of rigid nature of the back bone, cis-PBZT showed poor crystallinity

    ABSTRACT In this study, we numerically investigates the flow and thermal characteristics of the three-dimensional thermal convection in a cubic cavity heated below in the gravitational field, concerning about spatially-averaged kinetic energy K , Nusselt number Nu and flow structure. We assume Prandtl number Pr = 7.1 (water) and Rayleigh number Ra = 1.0×10 4 -3.5×10 5 . As a result, we have specified two of three important values of the Rayleigh number which demarcate different flow bifurcations and are referred to as the second and third critical Rayleigh numbers Ra c2 and Ra c3 . We have found that Ra c2 and Ra c3 are roughly 2.6×10 5 and 3.1×10 5 , respectively. We have observed a histerisis effect upon the value of Ra c2 with chaotic behaviour at c2 Ra Ra ≈ , and revealed flow structures. In addition, we investigate the relationship between Ra and the oscillatory-convection frequency. The increasing rate of the mean K with increasing Ra shows a different manner from that of Nu inflow-ave, mean . That is, the former is progressive and the latter is asymptotic, as Ra increases. Both the values of mean K and Nu inflow-ave, mean in oscillatory flow tend to be smaller than those in steady flow, respectively. Then, there exist small jumps/drops of mean K and Nu inflow-ave, mean at Ra = Ra c2

    An eleventh case of heavy (Hgamma1) chain disease (Yok), surviving for more than 10 years and still living showed clinical and pathological findings similar to cases described in the past. The patient was given only glucocorticosteroids, ACTH, antibiotics and gamma globulin, as specific drugs. Precipitation arcs besides the major ones formed by albumin and Fc fragment were disclosed by immunoelectrophoresis. The existence of these minor components were confirmed with antigen-antibody crossed electrophoresis and Sephadex G-200 gel filtration. They did not form precipitation arcs with the other antigens available and they appeared in the same fractions of IgG on gel filtration suggesting their having higher molecular weight than the major ones. In addition to these findings, the clinical course of the patient is described.</p
