    Preview of Estrogen, Progesterone and an Electrolite Plasma and the Act of Kidney on Sodium, Kalium, and Chorin of Bligon Goat's Estrous Cycle

    . This research was aimed to obtain status of reproduction hormone and electrolyte plasma and kidney's act on electrolyte in normal estrous cycle of 4 healthy female Bligon goats. The electrolyte, hormone and electrolyte clearance study has done in the first day, 3rd–5th, 6th–16th, and 17th–18th day of oestrus cycle. Estrogen and progesterone were analyzed with ELISA, while Na, K, Cl were with spectrophotometer. The average difference for each parameter in any period of oestrus cycle was subject to analysis of variance continued by Turkey HSD. The average of estrogen in estrous cycle was 211.25–247.77 pg/dl potential to increase around the estrous and decrease in luteal period (3rd–5th day and 6th–16th estrous cycle), and progesterone was 0.21–0.70 ng/dl with significant increase in luteal period (3rd–5rd day and 6th–16th estrogen cycle). Na, K, Cl in plasma in estrous cycle were not significantly different. Conclusively, progesterone levels in the late luteal period of Bligon goat's estrous cycle was significantly higher than that in other periods of oestrus. Estrogen levels tended to increase prior to and during the periods of oestrus and decrease during the luteal period despite the lack of significant changes, also in status of plasma electrolytes and renal acts of electrolytes

    Graph splicing rules with cycle graph and its complement on complete graphs

    Graph splicing system is a notion originally used to illustrate the one-dimensional string of DNA splicing in the form of a graph. A graph splicing system is associated with a graph splicing scheme where graph splicing rules are defined. A graph splicing rule restricts the possible cuts to occur on the edges of the initial graph(s) in a graph splicing system. The subgraphs of the initial graph are used in the splicing rules to determine the edges that will be cut from the initial graph. The concept of graph splicing system can be applied on various types of graph, hence generates components of spliced graphs depending on the types of the graph splicing rules used. There is a graph splicing rule called as a cutting rule which can be applied on both linear graphs and circular graphs where the graphs are transformed into Pseudo-Linear Form. However, this cutting rule has limited various possible cuts that can occur on the complete graph. Therefore, in this research, the original concept of graph splicing system is applied on complete graphs as the initial graphs. Also, graph splicing rules involving subgraphs of the initial graphs which are also complete graphs, are considered and applied in the graph splicing system. Furthermore, the generated spliced graphs are obtained through the graph splicing system

    Factors Associated with Klebsiella

    Although Klebsiella bacteremia in children is perceived to be associated with fatal consequences, data are scarce on those children presenting with diarrhea. We evaluated the factors associated with Klebsiella bacteremia in such children. In this retrospective chart analysis, data of all diarrheal children was retrieved from electronic medical record system (named as SHEBA) of Dhaka Hospital of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2012, who had their blood culture done. This was a study having a case-control design where comparison of clinical and laboratory characteristics was done among children with Klebsiella bacteremia (cases = 30) and those without any bacteraemia (controls = 90). Controls were selected randomly. The cases more often had fatal outcome (p<0.001). In logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for potential confounders such as young age, severe dehydration, severe wasting, abnormal mentation, hypotension, and fast breathing, the cases were independently associated with hospital-acquired infection and positive stool growth (for all, p<0.05). The study highlights the importance of obtaining blood cultures in hospitalized children under five years old with diarrheal illness in the presence of either hospital-acquired infection or positive stool culture to have better outcome

A non-zero divisor graph is a graph in which its set of vertices is the non-zero elements of the ring and the vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xy ≠ 0. In this study, we introduced the non-zero divisor graphs of some finite commutative rings in specific the ring of in tegers modulo 6, 6 and ring of Hamiltonian quaternion, (2). First, the non-zero divisors of the commutative rings are found. Then, the non-zero divisor graphs are constructed. Finally, some properties of the graph, including the chromatic number, clique number, girth and the diameter are obtained

    Troubling "understanding mathematics-in-depth": Its role in the identity work of student-teachers in England

This article is published with open access at Springerlink.comThis article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.In this paper, we focus on an initiative in England devised to prepare non-mathematics graduates to train as secondary mathematics teachers through a 6-month Mathematics Enhancement Course (MEC) to boost their subject knowledge. The course documentation focuses on the need to develop “understanding mathematics in-depth” in students in order for them to become successful mathematics teachers. We take a poststructural approach, so we are not interested in asking what such an understanding is, about the value of this approach or about the effectiveness of the MECs in developing this understanding in their participants. Instead we explore what positions this discourse of “understanding mathematics in-depth” makes available to MEC students. We do this by looking in detail at the “identity work” of two students, analysing how they use and are used by this discourse to position themselves as future mathematics teachers. In doing so, we show how even benign-looking social practices such as “understanding mathematics in-depth” are implicated in practices of inclusion and exclusion. We show this through detailed readings of interviews with two participants, one of whom fits with the dominant discourses in the MEC and the other who, despite passing the MEC, experiences tensions between her national identity work and MEC discourses. We argue that it is vital to explore “identity work” within teacher education contexts to ensure that becoming a successful mathematics teacher is equally available to all.King’s College Londo

    Estimation of population parameters for a data deficient Salmostoma bacaila (Hamilton 1822) stock from the Mahananda river (tributary of the Ganges) in NW Bangladesh

    403-409Salmostoma bacaila known as Razorbelly minnow (Hamilton in 1822) is an indigenous fish species in Bangladesh. This study emphasizes on population structure, growth pattern (length-weight and length-length relations), growth considerations (asymptotic length, L∞; weight, W∞; growth coefficient, K; age at zero length, t0), size and age at sexual maturity (Lm), growth performance index (φ), life-span (tmax), conditions factor (Allometric, KA; Fulton’s, KF and Relative, KR), prey-predator status through relative weight (WR), form factor (a3.0), total (Z), natural (M) and fishing mortality (F), exploitation rate (E) and maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of S. bacaila in the Mahananda river, northwestern Bangladesh. Total 305 specimens of S. bacaila were hardly sampled (ranging between 5.5 to 11.9 cm total length (TL), and 1.05 – 9.20 g total body weight (BW)) through regular fishing gears during August 2016 – July 2017. The regression coefficient ‘b’ of length-weight relations specified negative allometric growth. Growth parameters (GP) were figured as L∞ = 12.66 cm, K = 0.60 year-1, W∞ = 11.36 g, t0 = 0.048, tmax = 5.00 year-1 and φ’ = 1.98. The Lm was 7.34 cm in TL. Relative weight did not create any significant dissimilarity of 100 that would suggest a healthy habitat for S. bacaila. The a3.0 was 0.0052 specifying that this fish could be described as elongated. In addition, the Z was calculated to be 1.57 year-1. The M and F values obtained were 0.92 and 0.65 year-1, respectively. The E was 0.41 and MSY (Emax) was estimated as 0.35 year-1 by yield per recruitment model. Present research knowledge will be very useful in planning the sustainable and appropriate management of this species in Bangladesh and bordering countries

    COVID-19 among staff and their family members of a healthcare research institution in Bangladesh between March 2020 and April 2021 : a test-negative case–control study

    Objective To identify factors associated with COVID- 19 positivity among staff and their family members of icddr,b, a health research institute located in Bangladesh. Setting Dhaka, Bangladesh. Participants A total of 4295 symptomatic people were tested for SARS-CoV-2 by reverse-transcription PCR between 19 March 2020 and 15 April 2021. Multivariable logistic regression was done to identify the factors associated with COVID- 19 positivity by contrasting test positives with test negatives. Result Forty-three per cent of the participants were tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The median age was high in positive cases (37 years vs 34 years). Among the positive cases, 97% were recovered, 2.1% had reinfections, 24 died and 41 were active cases as of 15 April 2021. Multivariable regression analysis showed that age more than 60 years (adjusted OR (aOR)=2.1, 95% CI 1.3 to 3.3; pwere tested negative. Conclusions The study findings suggest that older age, fever, cough and anosmia were associated with COVID- 19 among the study participants.publishedVersionPeer reviewe

    Causes and consequences of child growth faltering in low-resource settings

    Growth faltering in children (low length for age or low weight for length) during the first 1,000 days of life (from conception to 2 years of age) influences short-term and long-term health and survival 1,2. Interventions such as nutritional supplementation during pregnancy and the postnatal period could help prevent growth faltering, but programmatic action has been insufficient to eliminate the high burden of stunting and wasting in low- and middle-income countries. Identification of age windows and population subgroups on which to focus will benefit future preventive efforts. Here we use a population intervention effects analysis of 33 longitudinal cohorts (83,671 children, 662,763 measurements) and 30 separate exposures to show that improving maternal anthropometry and child condition at birth accounted for population increases in length-for-age z-scores of up to 0.40 and weight-for-length z-scores of up to 0.15 by 24 months of age. Boys had consistently higher risk of all forms of growth faltering than girls. Early postnatal growth faltering predisposed children to subsequent and persistent growth faltering. Children with multiple growth deficits exhibited higher mortality rates from birth to 2 years of age than children without growth deficits (hazard ratios 1.9 to 8.7). The importance of prenatal causes and severe consequences for children who experienced early growth faltering support a focus on pre-conception and pregnancy as a key opportunity for new preventive interventions

    Mathematics for teaching and deep subject knowledge: Voices of Mathematics Enhancement Course students in England

    This article reports an investigation into how students of a mathematics course for prospective secondary mathematics teachers in England talk about the notion of ‘understanding mathematics in depth’, which was an explicit goal of the course. We interviewed eighteen students of the course. Through our social practice frame and in the light of a review of the literature on mathematical knowledge for teaching, we describe three themes that weave through the students’ talk: reasoning, connectedness and being mathematical. We argue that these themes illuminate privileged messages in the course, as well as the boundary and relationship between mathematical and pedagogic content knowledge in secondary mathematics teacher education practice
