    RICING INSURANCE IN ORDER TO MINIMIZING THE EXPECTED LOSS IN WEALTH VIA OPTIMAL CONTROL

    Abstract. In this paper we are interested in Pricing insurance in order to minimizing the expected loss inwealth via optimal control. The objective is to find the policy which maximizes the total wealth in company insurances. For this purpose, First, a dynamic model is introduced to describe the process of receiving premium and paying claims. Then, we introduce the premium variable as the problem control variable. Next, we define an appropriate objective function for the control variable and state variables in order to reduce expected losses and increase the wealth. In the end, one of the main variables is estimated by statistical methods and we solve the optimal control problem by PMP method and finally, numerical example are presented.Keywords: Optimal control, Premium, Dynamical systems, expected loss, Optimization

    Oral Health by Using Probiotic Products

    One of the most prevalent and important health problems in the world is periodontal and plaque-related diseases that antibiotic drugs are used with their side effects as their treatment. With increasing resistance to antibiotics and a desire from the general public for “natural” therapies, there is a need to minimize antibiotic use and develop new treatments for oral diseases without antimicrobial agents. Probiotics are viable microorganisms which provide a health benefit to the host when administered in adequate amounts; studies show that probiotics have the potential to modify the oral microbiota and decrease the colony-forming unit (CFU) counts of the oral pathogens being investigated to prevent or treat oral disease, such as dental caries and the periodontal diseases. In addition, the identification of specific strains with probiotic activity is required for any oral infectious disease, in order to determine the exact dose, the time of treatment, and the ideal vehicle

    LXMERT Model Compression for Visual Question Answering

    Large-scale pretrained models such as LXMERT are becoming popular for learning cross-modal representations on text-image pairs for vision-language tasks. According to the lottery ticket hypothesis, NLP and computer vision models contain smaller subnetworks capable of being trained in isolation to full performance. In this paper, we combine these observations to evaluate whether such trainable subnetworks exist in LXMERT when fine-tuned on the VQA task. In addition, we perform a model size cost-benefit analysis by investigating how much pruning can be done without significant loss in accuracy. Our experiment results demonstrate that LXMERT can be effectively pruned by 40%-60% in size with 3% loss in accuracy.Comment: To appear in The Fourth Annual West Coast NLP (WeCNLP) Summi

    The New Perceptions on Life of Iranian Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Qualitative Study

    Various studies suggest that ankylosing spondylitis (AS) as a chronic inflammatory disease with many disabilities can have impacts on different aspects of patients’ life. Despite many quantitative studies, only few qualitative studies have thus far been published on this subject. For the first time, the present study aims at gaining insight into the life experience of Iranian AS patients. We performed a content analysis through semi-structured interviews with twenty-eight patients diagnosed with AS, including three females and twenty-five males with an average age of 38.5 years, to gain insight into their experiences. Whatever the patients expressed was written and transcribed verbatim. Then, we did analysis of the results after each interview. The detailed information completely extracted from the interviews was classified as sub-themes and main themes. Three main themes were identified by the analysis: (i) “Always with pain” describing the effects were found in regard to pain on patients’ life, (ii) “The perceived limitation” describing many difficulties that people may face in the society as a result of their disease, and (iii) “Fearing the unknown future” which implies to both patients and their families have concerns about the future and what will happen. Our research findings in line with other qualitative studies showed that AS disease puts a heavy and intolerable burden on patients and their family. It seems that the experiences of people living with AS can be useful to meet challenges caused by the disease and it can enhance their coping with the disease

    Clinical, epidemiological, and mycological features of patients with candidemia: Experience in two tertiary referral centers in Iran

    Background and purpose: Candidemia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy and those hospitalized with serious underlying diseases. Here, we investigated the epidemiological, clinical, and mycological features of candidemia in Tehran, Iran. Materials and methods: A prospective observational study of all patients diagnosed with candidemia was performed at two referral teaching hospitals in Tehran, Iran, from February to December 2018. Demographic characteristics, underlying diseases, risk factors, clinical symptoms, and laboratory analyses of candidemic patients with positive culture were mined. Candida isolates were molecularly identified by sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2). The antifungal susceptibility testing for fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, amphotericin B, caspofungin, micafungin, and anidulafungin against the isolates was performed using CLSI broth microdilution reference method (M27-A3). Results: A total of 89 episodes were identified, with an incidence of 2.1 episodes/1000 admissions. The common underling disease were malignancy (46%), renal failure/dialysis (44%), and hypertension (40%). The overall crude mortality was 47%. C. albicans (44%) was the most frequent causative agent, followed by C. glabrata (21%), C. parapsilosis complex (15%), C. tropicalis (11%), and C. lusitaniae (3.5%). All the isolates were susceptible to amphotericin B. The activity of all four azoles was low against non-albicans Candida species, especially C. tropicalis. Conclusion: The increase in non-albicans Candida species with reduced susceptibility to antifungal drugs might be alarming in high-risk patients. Therefore, accurate knowledge of predisposing factors and epidemiological patterns in candidemia are effective steps for managing and decreasing the mortality rate in candidemia.This study has been funded and supported by Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran (Grant no. 99-2-99-48944).S

    ARA lncRNA, is upregulated in liver and breast tumor tissues

    Important regulatory roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been recently found, and reported as useful biomarkers in cancer. To identify a potential expression of the new discovered lncRNA (ARA), during promotes cell proliferation, apoptosis inhibit, migration and cell cycle arrest, we firstly evaluate its expression in two cancer tissues (breast cancer and liver cancer) and then compared its variability expression in tumor versus non-tumor samples. Expression profile of ARA lncRNA was evaluated using qRT-PCR in paired tumor and marginal non-tumor samples collected from patients who had been referred to the Shiraz General. After RNA extraction from tissue samples, cDNA synthesis and RT-qPCR method were performed according to the protocols. ARA lncRNA expression level was calculated using 2-ΔΔCt method. Principal-component analysis followed by receiver operating characteristic curve analyses was performed to evaluate the diagnostic potential of selected lncRNA. Our data revealed a significant upregulation (P < 0.001) of ARA in breast and liver tumor tissues, in comparison to same patients non-tumor marginal samples. Also, there was a significant difference between the expression of ARA lncRNA in breast cancer and liver cancer patients (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the results of our study suggest a possible role of ARA lncRNA in proliferation of breast and liver tissues, as well as its potential usefulness as a novel diagnostic biomarker for breast and liver tumor

    Sensing of Alzheimer’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis Using Nano-Bio Interfaces

    It is well understood that patients with different diseases may have a variety of specific proteins (e.g., type, amount, and configuration) in their plasmas. When nanoparticles (NPs) are exposed to these plasmas, the resulting coronas may incorporate some of the disease-specific proteins. Using gold (Au) NPs with different surface properties and corona composition, we have developed a technology for the discrimination and detection of two neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Applying a variety of techniques, including UV-visible spectra, colorimetric response analyses and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, we found the corona-NP complexes, obtained from different human serums, had distinct protein composition, including some specific proteins that are known as AD and MS biomarkers. The colorimetric responses, analyzed by chemometrics and statistical methods, demonstrate promising capabilities of the technology to unambiguously identify and discriminate AD and MS. The developed colorimetric technology might enable a simple, inexpensive and rapid detection/discrimination of neurodegenerative diseases.
