Commerce Numérique: traffic signals for crossroads between cultures.
Commerce is a French literary journal - founded by Princess Margherita Caetani - which relied on the collaboration of three prestigious writers: Paul Valéry, Léon-Paul Fargue, and Valéry Larbaud. The journal is composed of twenty-nine volumes published between 1924 and 1932. Each volume includes different literary material like poems and novels, written by both well- known and unknown writers, who also translated important authors like Joyce, T.S. Eliot, Pirandello, Ungaretti, Saint-John Perse, Rilke, and Hofmannsthal.
Considering the historical, literary, and cultural importance of the journal Commerce, our project “Commerce numérique” aims to digitize and to make the journal contents freely available online to both the general public and the research community.
This article describes the way in which the journal was encoded. Particular importance is also given to the encoding of poems present in Commerce. Some poems are in the original language and are accompanied by their French translation, other poems are in the French-translated form without the original text. In order to fully and accurately express the phenomena and their structures, we adopted some aspects of the TEI framework that will be explained in detail.
The French translation of a Moroccan Arabic poem from the 13th century is also considered. The original Arabic poem is interesting because it presents aspects of both the Moroccan dialect and the oral text. The study and the encoding of the Arabic poem in parallel to its translation highlight some important structural differences between Arabic poetry and Western poetry
Layered transition metal selenophosphites for visible light photoelectrochemical production of hydrogen
The growing consumption of global energy has posed serious challenges to environmental protection and energy supplies. A promising solution is via introducing clean and sustainable energy sources, including photo-electrochemical hydrogen fuel production. 2D materials, such as transition metal trichalcogenphosphites (MPCh(3)), are gaining more and more interest for their potential as photocatalysts. Crystals of transition metal selenophosphites, namely MnPSe3, FePSe3 and ZnPSe3, were tested as photocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). ZnPSe3 is the one that exhibited the lowest overpotential and the higher response to the light during photocurrent experiments in acidic media. For this reason, among the crystals in this work, it is the most promising for the photocatalyzed production of hydrogen

Sense of Coherence (SOC) of Italian healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic: analysis of associated factors
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges for healthcare workers worldwide, potentially affecting their sense of coherence (SOC) and overall well-being. This study aimed to identify factors associated with different levels of SOC among healthcare workers. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 628 healthcare workers. SOC scores were assessed using a standardized questionnaire, and data on demographic characteristics, length of service, geographic location, and pandemic-related experiences were collected. Statistical analyses were performed to identify associations between these factors and SOC. Results: Healthcare workers had a lower average SOC score (mean: 57.1) compared to the national average in Italy (mean: 60.3). Younger age and shorter length of service were associated with a higher risk of low SOC (p<0.0001). Healthcare workers in the northwestern regions of Italy had an increased risk of low SOC compared to their counterparts in the northeastern regions (p=0.0336). Adverse pandemic-related experiences and worsening social relationships were also associated with a higher risk of low SOC (p<0.0001). Conclusions: This study highlights the unique challenges and stressors faced by healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on SOC. Age, length of service, geographic location, and social were significant factors influencing SOC levels. Targeted interventions are needed to enhance SOC and well-being, particularly for younger and newly employed healthcare workers. Strategies promoting social connections, work-life balance, and psychological support services are crucial to support healthcare workers' resilience and coping abilities
Cardiac Pacemaker Battery Discharge After External Electrical Cardioversion for Broad QRS Complex Tachycardia
External electrical cardioversion or defibrillation may be necessary in patients with implanted cardiac pacemaker (PM) or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Sudden discharge of high electrical energy employed in direct current (DC) transthoracic countershock may damage the PM/ICD system resulting in a series of possible device malfunctions. For this reason, when defibrillation or cardioversion must be attempted in a patient with a PM or ICD, some precautions should be taken, particularly in PM dependent patients, in order to prevent damage to the device. We report the case of a 76-year-old woman with a dual chamber PM implanted in the right subclavicular region, who received two consecutive transthoracic DC shocks to treat haemodynamically unstable broad QRS complex tachycardia after cardiac surgery performed with a standard sternotomic approach. Because of the sternal wound and thoracic drainage tubes together with the severe clinical compromise, the anterior paddle was positioned near the pulse generator. At the following PM test, a complete battery discharge was detected

Inhibition of Morphine- and Ethanol-Mediated Stimulation of Mesolimbic Dopamine Neurons by Withania somnifera
Morphine- and ethanol-induced stimulation of neuronal firing of ventral tegmental
area (VTA) dopaminergic neurons and of dopamine (DA) transmission in the shell
of the nucleus accumbens (AcbSh) represents a crucial electrophysiological and
neurochemical response underlying the ability of these compounds to elicit motivated
behaviors and trigger a cascade of plasticity-related biochemical events. Previous
studies indicate that the standardized methanolic extract of Withania somnifera roots
(WSE) prevents morphine- and ethanol-elicited conditioned place preference and oral
ethanol self-administration. Aim of the present research was to investigate whether
WSE may also interfere with the ability of morphine and ethanol to stimulate VTA
dopaminergic neurons and thus AcbSh DA transmission as assessed in male Sprague-
Dawley rats by means of patch-clamp recordings in mesencephalic slices and
in vivo brain microdialysis, respectively. Morphine and ethanol significantly stimulated
spontaneous firing rate of VTA neurons and DA transmission in the AcbSh. WSE, at
concentrations (200–400 mg/ml) that significantly reduce spontaneous neuronal firing
of VTA DA neurons via a GABAA- but not GABAB-mediated mechanism, suppressed
the stimulatory actions of both morphine and ethanol. Moreover, in vivo administration
of WSE at a dose (75 mg/kg) that fails to affect basal DA transmission, significantly
prevented both morphine- and ethanol-elicited increases of DA in the AcbSh. Overall,
these results highlight the ability of WSE to interfere with morphine- and ethanolmediated
central effects and suggest a mechanistic interpretation of the efficacy of this
extract to prevent the motivational properties of these compounds
The Effect of Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination and Infection on Humoral and Cellular Immunity in a Cohort of Patients with Immune-Mediated Diseases: A Pilot Study
Immunization against COVID-19 is needed in patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). However, data on long-term immunity kinetics remain scarce. This study aimed to compare the humoral and cellular response to COVID-19 in patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) compared to healthy controls. We compared the humoral and cellular response to SARS-Cov-2 elicited by vaccination and/or infection in a prospective cohort of 20 IMID patients compared with a group of 21 healthcare workers (HCWs). We assessed immunity before and after the third and fourth dose of BNT162b2 or after COVID-19 infection using quantitative IgG anti-SARS-CoV-2 Spike antibody (anti-S-IgG), neutralization assay, and specific interferon-gamma (IFN-g) release assay (IGRA). The responses were compared with those of healthy controls. The two groups were similar in age and total exposure, becoming infected for the first time, mainly after the third dose. Neutralizing antibodies and IGRA were negative in 9.5% of IMID patients but not in any HCWs. No significant difference was found between neutralization titers to BA.1 in the IMID and the HCW groups. The study highlights the SARS-CoV-2 immunological responses in healthy controls and IMID patients, suggesting that the combined stimuli of vaccination and infection in IMID patients could promote a more profound immunological response
Investigation of the human pineal gland 3D organization by X-ray phase contrast tomography
Pineal gland (PG) is a part of the human brain epithalamus that plays an important role in sleep, circadian rhythm, immunity, and reproduction. The calcium deposits and lesions in PG interfere with normal function of the organ and can be associated with different health disorders including serious neurological diseases. At the moment, the detailed mechanisms of PG calcifications and PG lesions formation as well as their involvement in pathological processes are not fully understood. The deep and comprehensive study of the structure of the uncut human PG with histological details, poses a stiff challenge to most imaging techniques, due to low spatial resolution, low visibility or to exceedingly aggressive sample preparation. Here, we investigate the whole uncut and unstained human post-mortem PGs by X-ray phase contrast tomography (XPCT). XPCT is an advanced 3D imaging technique, that permits to study of both soft and calcified tissue of a sample at different scales: from the whole organ to cell structure. In our research we simultaneously resolved 3D structure of parenchyma, vascular network and calcifications. Moreover, we distinguished structural details of intact and degenerated PG tissue. We discriminated calcifications with different structure, pinealocytes nuclei and the glial cells processes. All results were validated by histology. Our research clear demonstrated that XPCT is a potential tool for the high resolution 3D imaging of PG morphological features. This technique opens a new perspective to investigate PG dysfunction and understand the mechanisms of onset and progression of diseases involving the pineal gland
Living organisms and sedimentary remains from high mountain lakes in the Alps
We publish a data set of environmental and biological data collected in 2000 during the ice-free period in high mountain lakes located above the local timberline in the Alps, in Italy, Switzerland and Austria. Environmental data include coordinates, geographical attributes and detailed information on vegetation, bedrock and land use in lake catchments. Chemical analyses of a sample for each lake collected at the lake surface in Summer 2000 are also reported. Biological data include phytoplankton (floating algae and cyanobacteria), zooplankton (floating animals), macroinvertebrates (aquatic organisms visible to the naked eye living in contact with sediments on lake bottom), benthic diatoms. Diatoms, cladocera and chironomids remains and algal and bacterial pigments were also analysed in lake sediments
