Inclusive Development in Latin America and Smallholders’ Interactive Learning Spaces

    Get PDF
Inclusive development appears as a challenge in Latin America countries after the rupture of the social inclusion as a trickle-down effect of the economic growth. Searching development with inclusion several public policies were implemented in Latin American focusing in the agri-food production. In order to assess the progress to reach such objectives, two cases are studied. Smallholder milk producers at the Loma Blanca community (Mexico) and smallholders olive producers at Aimogasta (Argentina) were considered. Interactive learning spaces were clearly identified as consequence of the linking between product, producers and territory. Despite these results, several queries are still opened.Fil: Bastida Mercado, Claudia. Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México; MéxicoFil: García Martínez, Anastacio. Magnetic loops in the quiet Sun

We investigate the fine structure of magnetic fields in the atmosphere of the quiet Sun. We use photospheric magnetic field measurements from {\sc Sunrise}/IMaX with unprecedented spatial resolution to extrapolate the photospheric magnetic field into higher layers of the solar atmosphere with the help of potential and force-free extrapolation techniques. We find that most magnetic loops which reach into the chromosphere or higher have one foot point in relatively strong magnetic field regions in the photosphere. 9191% of the magnetic energy in the mid chromosphere (at a height of 1 Mm) is in field lines, whose stronger foot point has a strength of more than 300 G, i.e. above the equipartition field strength with convection. The loops reaching into the chromosphere and corona are also found to be asymmetric in the sense that the weaker foot point has a strength B<300B < 300 G and is located in the internetwork. Such loops are expected to be strongly dynamic and have short lifetimes, as dictated by the properties of the internetwork fields.Comment: accepted for ApJL Sunrise special issue, 8 Pages, 4 Figure

Valuing qalys at the end of life

There have been changes in the way that NICE evaluates medical treatments for patients who are in the last stages of their lives. If medicines fulfil some criteria to be considered “end of life” NICE considers if QALYs gained under these circumstances should receive an extra weight. In this paper we provide evidence about the social support that this policy may have. We present the result of three surveys conducted in the Spanish general population (n=813). Survey 1 compared increases in life expectancy for patients at the end of their lives with health gains from temporary health problems. Survey 2 compared health gains for temporary health problems with health gains from end of life palliative care. Survey 3 compared increases in life expectancy with palliative care in both cases for end of life patients. Preferences were elicited with Person Trade-Off and Willingness to pay techniques. Our results suggest that QALYs for end of life treatments have a higher social value than for temporary health problems. However, we also find that people discriminate between different ways of health gains within End of Life treatment. People seem to attach a greater weight to palliative care than to life extension.QALY weights, end of life, palliative care, life extension

Coagulación intravascular diseminada: Una revisión de tema

    Get PDF
Introduction: Disseminated intravascular coagulation is a secondary syndrome to underlying pathologies, where localized coagulation activation and generalized inflammatory response can lead to tissue and microvascular damage. A prevalence of 10.8% has been reported in several intensive care units in Colombia. Its presentation in the context of sepsis is different depending on the type of infection. Objective: To conduct a review of literature of the most outstanding concepts of disseminated intravascular coagulation. Materials and methods: A review was made by means of the search of original articles, systematic and narrative reviews, in the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases and in the Google Scholar search engine; 80 articles were selected, of which 51 were included. Publications were taken into account in Spanish, English and French, with a publication date of less than or equal to 5 years. Results: The description of treatment, etiology, clinical presentation and diagnosis of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation was made, with special emphasis on the studies on molecular markers and new therapeutic alternatives. Conclusion: Disseminated intravascular coagulation is a complication which contributes to increase morbidity and mortality, whose early diagnosis and treatment contribute significantly to better clinical evolution

Ground extraction from 3D lidar point clouds with the Classification Learner App (2018) 26th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation, Zadar, Croatia, June 2018, pp.400-405. DOI: PendingGround extraction from three-dimensional (3D) range data is a relevant problem for outdoor navigation of unmanned ground vehicles. Even if this problem has received attention with specific heuristics and segmentation approaches, identification of ground and non-ground points can benefit from state-of-the-art classification methods, such as those included in the Matlab Classification Learner App. This paper proposes a comparative study of the machine learning methods included in this tool in terms of training times as well as in their predictive performance. With this purpose, we have combined three suitable features for ground detection, which has been applied to an urban dataset with several labeled 3D point clouds. Most of the analyzed techniques achieve good classification results, but only a few offer low training and prediction times. This work was partially supported by the Spanish project DPI 2015- 65186-R. Turismo sustentable. Un acercamiento a su oferta

    Get PDF

Should we be afraid of open book exams? Our experience

[EN] This study reports our first experience introducing open-book exams in the Anatomy subject at a medical school. Students were authorized to bring study material to the exam and consult books, atlases and their own notes. Our objective was to check whether the test scores were significantly higher or lower compared to the rote tests taken before it. After statistical analysis, there are no differences in the mean, median, range, minimum score, or maximum score. These results are consistent with the consulted bibliography. We can conclude that there is no need to be afraid of implementing this type of exam in the future.Alegre-Martínez, A.; Martínez-Martínez, MI.; Alfonso-Sanchez, JL. (2023). Current research on public opinion shows a high level of discredit of trade unions in Spain. This article focuses on one of the expressions of this discredit: the discourse on trade unionism by mass media. To this purpose, the anti-union discourse by the conservative newspaper La Razón during the first semester of 2012 is analysed. Firstly, 868 headlines of news relating to trade unions in this newspaper are explored and classified into neutral, negative or positive content. Secondly, the structure and elements of the anti-union discourse in a selection of news reports is analysed. The results reinforce the thesis that trade unions are subject to an intensive disparaging campaign which is seriously damaging their public image and their social power
