Hypergeometric decomposition of symmetric K3 quartic pencils

We study the hypergeometric functions associated to five one-parameter deformations of Delsarte K3 quartic hypersurfaces in projective space. We compute all of their Picard--Fuchs differential equations; we count points using Gauss sums and rewrite this in terms of finite field hypergeometric sums; then we match up each differential equation to a factor of the zeta function, and we write this in terms of global L-functions. This computation gives a complete, explicit description of the motives for these pencils in terms of hypergeometric motives.Comment: 70 pages, minor revision, to appear in Research in the Mathematical Science

Um estudo sobre a vitimologia e a omissão do estado frente à família da vítima do crime de homicídio

O presente estudo trata dos direitos das famílias das vítimas do crime de homicídio e da responsabilidade do Estado frente aos danos materiais, físicos, psicológicos e sociais causados àquelas pessoas em razão da morte do seu familiar. O objetivo principal é verificar a atuação estatal frente às necessidades de amparo dos vitimados, partindo-se das premissas da Vitimologia, que aprofunda questões relacionadas à personalidade da vítima, a dinâmica da relação vítima e delinquente e a reparação do dano causado a ela. Diante do elevado número de homicídios registrados no país, faz-se necessária atenção quanto à responsabilidade do Estado pela indenização às vítimas desses crimes, visto que esta é uma necessidade de justiça e de respeito à dignidade humana

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES TO SUPPORT INNOVATION: HOW DO COMPANIES DECIDE?

The purpose of this work is to discuss the issue of how companies aiming to increase their innovative capacity should decide about their organizational structure. To accomplish this goal, a bibliographic review about the theme was carried out, as well as an exploratory research, conducted by case study in a Brazilian petrochemical company that had recently re-organised its structure regarding innovative activities. The results suggest that the studied company decided upon its organisational structure without considering the whole process of innovation, focusing efforts only on the Research and Development area. Its organizational structure is still based on traditional forms, with centralized decisions and well demarcated functions. Zeta functions of alternate mirror Calabi–Yau families

We prove that if two Calabi-Yau invertible pencils have the same dual weights, then they share a common factor in their zeta functions. By using Dwork cohomology, we demonstrate that this common factor is related to a hypergeometric Picard–Fuchs differential equation. The factor in the zeta function is defined over the rationals and has degree at least the order of the Picard–Fuchs equation. As an application, we relate several pencils of K3 surfaces to the Dwork pencil, obtaining new cases of arithmetic mirror symmetry
