The present study intended to find Facebook addiction and its relation with academic performance of university students from Pakistan. Sample comprised of eighty students (n=80) in total whom are purposefully selected and equally divided according to gender. The universe was public sector higher learning institute named as The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Cross-sectional survey research design was employed. Data were collected by use of Bergen Facebook addition scale. Data were analyzed from SPSS (21.0), descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were computed to test the hypotheses. Results depict significant negative relationship between Facebook addiction and academic performance of students (β = -.907, t = -4.554). Conclusively, female students consume more time to use Facebook as compare to male students; hence, male students exhibit better academic performance. Limitations and future implications of current study were enclosed

In this study, laminated composite materials were hybridized with E-glass fiber and Nitinol (Nickel-Titanium) wires. Hand lay-up technique was used to prepare the samples, epoxy resin type (Sikadur 52 N) was used as matrix reinforced by one fiber from E-glass fiber woven roving with embedded nitinol wires with a diameter 0.5 mm for samples and number of wires such as 0, 1, 3, 5 and 9 to find the effect of the number of wires on the natural frequency. The samples were fixed as a cantilever beam. The effects of increasing the number of nitinol wires, the diameter of nitinol wires, the length of the cantilever beam and the thickness of beam on the natural frequencies of the beam were studied. Also, the effects of the tapered in width side and thickness side on the natural frequencies of cantilever beam were studied. The results showed that the increasing in the number of nitinol wires and the diameter of nitinol wires lead to decrease the natural frequency in martensite phase and increase the natural frequency in austenite phase. Also, the increasing in thickness of beam and width ratio of the beam lead to increase the natural frequency. As well as, the increasing in the thickness ratio leads to increase the first natural frequency and decrease the second and third ones. In addition, the increasing in the length of the beam decreases the natural frequency

Atrazine contamination at the watershed scale and environmental factors affecting sampling rates of the polar organic chemical integrative sampler (POCIS)

AbstractPolar organic chemical integrative samplers (POCIS) were used to estimate atrazine contamination at 24 stream/river sites located across a watershed with land use ranging from 6.7 to 97.4% annual crops and surface water nitrate concentrations ranging from 3 to 5404 μg/L. A gradient of atrazine contamination spanning two orders of magnitude was observed over two POCIS deployments of 28 d and was positively correlated with measures of agricultural intensity. The metabolite desisopropyl atrazine was used as a performance reference compound in field calibration studies. Sampling rates were similar between field sites but differed seasonally. Temperature had a significant effect on sampling rates while other environmental variables, including water velocity, appeared to have no effect on sampling rates. A performance reference compound approach showed potential in evaluating spatial and temporal differences in field sampling rates and as a tool for further understanding processes governing uptake of polar compounds by POCIS

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most common public health issues worldwide and its incidence is on the rise, particularly in middle-income and low-income countries. Objectives of the study: The main objective of the study is to analyze the relationship of diabetes mellitus (type 2) and obesity in Pakistan. Methodology of the study: The cross sectional study was conducted at Allied Hospital Faisalabad during March 2018 till August 2018 The data was collected from 200 diabetic patients who visited the OPD of the hospital. The data was collected through a questionnaire. We assess the nutritional and economic health of patients by asking some survey questions. From the large pool of data we select health status, diet quality, lifestyle, food culture, food security, and demographic information of the selected patients. The economic and health status describe the level of awareness regarding disease. Results: The data were collected from 200 diabetic patients. We also collect the basic characteristics of patients and compared these values with normal values. So we can find that diseases person have more blood pressure value as compared to normal. The demographical conditions of the patients explains the co-efficient and standard error values. The level of confidence interval is 90 and 95 in this table for the significant value. Conclusion: It is concluded that T2DM patients require reinforcement of DM education including dietary management through stakeholders (health-care providers, health facilities, etc.) to encourage them to understand the disease management better, for more appropriate self-care and better quality of life

Randomize to Generalize: Domain Randomization for Runway FOD Detection

Tiny Object Detection is challenging due to small size, low resolution, occlusion, background clutter, lighting conditions and small object-to-image ratio. Further, object detection methodologies often make underlying assumption that both training and testing data remain congruent. However, this presumption often leads to decline in performance when model is applied to out-of-domain(unseen) data. Techniques like synthetic image generation are employed to improve model performance by leveraging variations in input data. Such an approach typically presumes access to 3D-rendered datasets. In contrast, we propose a novel two-stage methodology Synthetic Randomized Image Augmentation (SRIA), carefully devised to enhance generalization capabilities of models encountering 2D datasets, particularly with lower resolution which is more practical in real-world scenarios. The first stage employs a weakly supervised technique to generate pixel-level segmentation masks. Subsequently, the second stage generates a batch-wise synthesis of artificial images, carefully designed with an array of diverse augmentations. The efficacy of proposed technique is illustrated on challenging foreign object debris (FOD) detection. We compare our results with several SOTA models including CenterNet, SSD, YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5, and Outer Vit on a publicly available FOD-A dataset. We also construct an out-of-distribution test set encompassing 800 annotated images featuring a corpus of ten common categories. Notably, by harnessing merely 1.81% of objects from source training data and amalgamating with 29 runway background images, we generate 2227 synthetic images. Subsequent model retraining via transfer learning, utilizing enriched dataset generated by domain randomization, demonstrates significant improvement in detection accuracy. We report that detection accuracy improved from an initial 41% to 92% for OOD test set.Comment: 29 pages, 9 figure
