Nuclear parton distributions in the DGLAP approach
Determination of the nuclear parton distributions within the framework of
perturbative QCD, the DGLAP equations in particular, is discussed. Scale and
flavour dependent nuclear effects in the parton distributions are compared with
the scale and flavour independent parametrizations of HIJING and of the Hard
Probe Collaboration. A comparison with the data from deep inelastic
lepton-nucleus scattering and the Drell-Yan process in proton-nucleus
collisions is shown.Comment: 19 pages, 6 eps-figures, to appear in the Proceedings of the Hard

Supergravity with cosmological constant and the AdS group
It is shown that the supersymmetric extension of the Stelle-West formalism
permits the construction of an action for -dimensional N=1 supergravity
with cosmological constant genuinely invariant under the Since the
action is invariant under the supersymmetric extension of the group, the
supersymmetry algebra closes off shell without the need for auxiliary fields.
The limit case , i.e. -dimensional N=1 supergravity invariant
under the Poincar\'{e} supergroup is also discussed.Comment: 10 page
Mind-Body Skills Groups for Adolescents with Depression in Primary Care: A Pilot Study
Objective: To determine acceptability and preliminary effectiveness of Mind-Body Skills Groups (MBSGs) as a treatment for depressed adolescents in primary care.
Methods: A single arm clinical trial was conducted. A 10-week MBSG program was implemented in primary care. Participants completed self-report measures at baseline, post-intervention, and 3-months following the MBSGs. Measures included the Children’s Depression Inventory-2, Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Self-Efficacy for Depressed Adolescents, rumination subscale of the Children’s Response Style Questionnaire, and a short acceptability questionnaire.
Results: Participants included 43 adolescents. The total depression scores significantly improved following the MBSG intervention and continued to improve significantly from post-treatment to follow-up. Mindfulness, self-efficacy, rumination, and suicidal ideation all had significant improvement following the intervention. Acceptability of the program was strong, and attendance was excellent.
Discussion: Preliminary evidence suggests that MBSGs are an acceptable treatment for primary care settings and lead to improved depression symptoms in adolescents.Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and the Herbert Simon Family Foundation (070241-00002B
Coexistence of Quantum Theory and Special Relativity in signaling scenarios
The coexistence between Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity is usually
formulated in terms of the no-signaling condition. Several authors have even
suggested that this condition should be included between the basic postulates
of Quantum Theory. However, there are several scenarios where signaling is, in
principle, possible: based on previous results and the analysis of the relation
between unitarity and signaling we present an example of a two-particle
interferometric arrangement for which the dynamics is, in principle, compatible
with superluminal transmission of information. This type of non-locality is not
in the line of Bell's theorem, but closer in spirit to the one-particle
acausality studied by Hegerfeldt and others. We analyze in this paper the
meaning of this non-locality and how to preserve the coexistence of the two
fundamental theories in this signaling scenario.Comment: See also the comment by G C Hegerfeldt in the online version of the

Theoretical Overview Quark Matter '04
The much wider transverse-momentum range accessible in heavy-ion collisions
at RHIC and at the LHC allows us to disentangle the dynamics of partonic
equilibration from the dynamics of delayed hadronization. This provides a novel
tool for testing the equilibration mechanisms underlying QCD thermodynamics.
Here, I argue, on the basis of simple formation-time arguments, why this is so,
and I review recent theoretical developments in this context.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, 3 eps figures, invited introductory talk at Quark

Effects of Heat Treatments on Steels for Bearing Applications
AISI 52 100, 440C, REX20, and Crucible CRU80 steel samples were exposed to 16 different heat treatments to vary the levels of retained austenite. Rockwell C hardness measurements, optical microscopy, and compression testing were used to compare the properties of the different steels
The physics potential of proton-nucleus collisions at the TeV scale
The LHC brings nuclear collisions to the TeV scale for the first time and the
first data show the qualitative differences of this new regime. The
corresponding phase-space available encompasses completely uncharted regions of
QCD in which high-density or high-temperature domains can be identified.
Proton-nucleus runs are essential for a complete interpretation of the data and
for the study of new regimes dominated by large occupation numbers in the
hadronic wave function. I comment here the physics opportunities for p+Pb runs
at the LHC and d+Au runs at RHIC and the corresponding needs in view of the new
Pb+Pb data from the LHC.Comment: Proceedings of the conference Quark Matter 2011, Annecy (France) May

Small strange stars and marginally stable orbit in Newtonian theory
It is shown that for very rapidly rotating low mass strange stars the
marginally stable orbit is located above the stellar surface. This effect is
explained by the very important role of the oblateness of the rotating strange
star. The comparison with some ``academic'' examples is presented. This feature
is purely Newtonian in its nature and has nothing to do with relativistic
marginally stable orbit. The effect is very large and cannot be treated in a
perturbative way. It seems that strange stars as a very dense self-bound
objects are the only possibility in Nature to represent these toy models.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, minor text and Fig.2 changes, references added,
