South East Asian financial linkages and the changing role of China: insights from a global VAR

    Get PDF
YesAs major financial crises, and the rise of China have shaped the new world order, so it is inevitable that those nations, especially in South East Asia, that once looked west for stability need to reappraise their situation. With the markets so intertwined in events, studying the propagation of equity price shocks within the wider set of macroeconomic variables allows us to say more about how relations are changing, and the likely impacts of any future crash. With data reaching into 2014, this paper is better able to reflect the post global financial crisis period. Using a Global Vector Autoregressive (GVAR) model we analyse these changes and what lies in store for South East Asia, and the ASEAN 4 in particular. Isolating three distinct trade patterns in our weight matrices responses to crises are clearly identifiable, and the opening up of China readily chartable. Indirect effects of China’s rise are highlighted; impacts on the ASEAN 4 being via other nations to date, but direct impact is appearing

Distribution logistics of online fashion retail business in China: A case study of VANCL

    Get PDF
The rapid development of information technologies brings more convenience to people. Information technologies, especially the Internet, not only save time for consumers and companies but also provide them with more channels and opportunities for interaction and conducting transactions. One business revolution brought by Internet is online shopping – shopping and buying products in online stores or websites. Nowadays, online shopping has become a new consuming model for consumers both in China and around the world. This paper analyses online shopping for fashion in China and investigates the impact of online shopping on logistics industry using the case of “VANCL”

Positive mass theorem for the Paneitz-Branson operator

    Get PDF
We prove that under suitable assumptions, the constant term in the Green function of the Paneitz-Branson operator on a compact Riemannian manifold (M,g)(M,g) is positive unless (M,g)(M,g) is conformally diffeomophic to the standard sphere. The proof is inspired by the positive mass theorem on spin manifolds by Ammann-Humbert.Comment: 7 page

Lattice isomorphisms of bisimple monogenic orthodox semigroups

Using the classification and description of the structure of bisimple monogenic orthodox semigroups obtained in \cite{key10}, we prove that every bisimple orthodox semigroup generated by a pair of mutually inverse elements of infinite order is strongly determined by the lattice of its subsemigroups in the class of all semigroups. This theorem substantially extends an earlier result of \cite{key25} stating that the bicyclic semigroup is strongly lattice determined.Comment: Semigroup Forum (published online: 15 April 2011

Plain film diagnosis in meconium plug syndrome, meconium ileus and neonatal Hirschsprung's disease - A scoring system

    Get PDF
Abdominal plain films of 133 neonates, with 82 cases of meconium plug syndrome (MPS), 27 cases of meconium ileus (MI) and 24 cases of neonatal Hirschsprung's disease (HD), were reviewed to assess the value of such radiographs for diagnosis. The radiographs were examined according to a list of 11 parameters. By using multivariate discriminant analysis, it appeared that 4 parameters i.e. dilatation of bowel loops, varying loop calibre, fluid levels and colonic gas were most important in discriminating among the three disorders. For each parameter the weight (in points) was derived. To classify patients, three group-scores had to be calculated: the group-score with the largest value indicated the most likely disorder. So in 99%, 88% and 63% of MPS, HD and MI, respectively, an accurate diagnosis could be predicted. The overall diagnostic accuracy was 89%. Such a diagnosis can be a sound basis for further investigation

Age-Dependent Defects of Regulatory B Cells in Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Gene Knockout Mice.

The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a rare X-linked primary immunodeficiency characterized by recurrent infections, thrombocytopenia, eczema, and high incidence of malignancy and autoimmunity. The cellular mechanisms underlying autoimmune complications in WAS have been extensively studied; however, they remain incompletely defined. We investigated the characteristics of IL-10-producing CD19+CD1dhighCD5+ B cells (CD1dhighCD5+ Breg) obtained from Was gene knockout (WKO) mice and found that their numbers were significantly lower in these mice compared to wild type (WT) controls. Moreover, we found a significant age-dependent reduction of the percentage of IL-10-expressing cells in WKO CD1dhighCD5+ Breg cells as compared to age-matched WT control mice. CD1dhighCD5+ Breg cells from older WKO mice did not suppress the in vitro production of inflammatory cytokines from activated CD4+ T cells. Interestingly, CD1dhighCD5+ Breg cells from older WKO mice displayed a basal activated phenotype which may prevent normal cellular responses, among which is the expression of IL-10. These defects may contribute to the susceptibility to autoimmunity with age in patients with WAS

Mesoscopic Fluctuations in Quantum Dots in the Kondo Regime

Properties of the Kondo effect in quantum dots depend sensitively on the coupling parameters and so on the realization of the quantum dot -- the Kondo temperature itself becomes a mesoscopic quantity. Assuming chaotic dynamics in the dot, we use random matrix theory to calculate the distribution of both the Kondo temperature and the conductance in the Coulomb blockade regime. We study two experimentally relevant cases: leads with single channels and leads with many channels. In the single-channel case, the distribution of the conductance is very wide as TKT_K fluctuates on a logarithmic scale. As the number of channels increases, there is a slow crossover to a self-averaging regime.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
