On the Teleportation of Continuous Variable
The measurement procedures used in quantum teleportation are analyzed from
the viewpoint of the general theory of quantum-mechanical measurements. It is
shown that to find the teleported state one should only know the identity
resolution (positive operator-valued measure) generated by the corresponding
instrument (quantum operation describing the system state change caused by the
measurement) rather than the instrument itself. A quantum teleportation
protocol based on a measurement associated with a non-orthogonal identity
resolution is proposed for a system with non-degenerate continuous spectrum.Comment: 13 pages, no figures. To be published in JET
Single spin universal Boolean logic
Recent advances in manipulating single electron spins in quantum dots have
brought us close to the realization of classical logic gates based on
representing binary bits in spin polarizations of single electrons. Here, we
show that a linear array of three quantum dots, each containing a single spin
polarized electron, and with nearest neighbor exchange coupling, acts as the
universal NAND gate. The energy dissipated during switching this gate is the
Landauer-Shannon limit of kTln(1/p) [T = ambient temperature and p = intrinsic
gate error probability]. With present day technology, p = 1E-9 is achievable
above 1 K temperature. Even with this small intrinsic error probability, the
energy dissipated during switching the NAND gate is only ~ 21 kT, while today's
nanoscale transistors dissipate about 40,000 - 50,000 kT when they switch
Minimalist design of a robust real-time quantum random number generator
We present a simple and robust construction of a real-time quantum random
number generator (QRNG). Our minimalist approach ensures stable operation of
the device as well as its simple and straightforward hardware implementation as
a stand-alone module. As a source of randomness the device uses measurements of
time intervals between clicks of a single-photon detector. The obtained raw
sequence is then filtered and processed by a deterministic randomness
extractor, which is realized as a look-up table. This enables high speed
on-the-fly processing without the need of extensive computations. The overall
performance of the device is around 1 random bit per detector click, resulting
in 1.2 Mbit/s generation rate in our implementation
