Slice Energy in Higher Order Gravity Theories and Conformal Transformations
We study the generic transport of slice energy between the scalar field
generated by the conformal transformation of higher-order gravity theories and
the matter component. We give precise relations for this exchange in the cases
of dust and perfect fluids. We show that, unless we are in a stationary
spacetime where slice energy is always conserved, in non-stationary situations
contributions to the total slice energy depend on whether or not test matter
follows geodesics in both frame representations of the dynamics, that is on
whether or not the two conformally related frames are physically
indistinguishable.Comment: 18 pages, references added, remark added in last Section related to

Scale Factor Duality: A Quantum Cosmological Approach
We consider the minisuperspace model arising from the lowest order string
effective action containing the graviton and the dilaton and study solutions of
the resulting Wheeler-Dewitt equation. The scale factor duality symmetry is
discussed in the context of our quantum cosmological model.Comment: 10 pages, plain tex, uses panda.tex (appended
Spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of modified gravity theory in higher dimensions
In this paper we investigate spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of
gravity in a higher dimensional spacetime. With this objective we construct a
system of non-linear differential equations, whose solutions depend on the
explicit form assumed for the function . We explicit
show that for specific classes of this function exact solutions from the field
equations are obtained; also we find approximated results for the metric tensor
for more general cases admitting close to the unity.Comment: 14 pages, no figure. New version accepted for publication in EPJ
Consistent modified gravity: dark energy, acceleration and the absence of cosmic doomsday
We discuss the modified gravity which includes negative and positive powers
of the curvature and which provides the gravitational dark energy. It is shown
that in GR plus the term containing negative power of the curvature the cosmic
speed-up may be achieved, while the effective phantom phase (with less than
-1) follows when such term contains the fractional positive power of the
curvature. The minimal coupling with matter makes the situation more
interesting: even 1/R theory coupled with the usual ideal fliud may describe
the (effective phantom) dark energy. The account of term (consistent
modified gravity) may help to escape of cosmic doomsday.Comment: LaTeX file, 9 pages, based on the talk given by S.D. Odintsov (Int.

Entropy and universality of Cardy-Verlinde formula in dark energy universe
We study the entropy of a FRW universe filled with dark energy (cosmological
constant, quintessence or phantom). For general or time-dependent equation of
state the entropy is expressed in terms of energy, Casimir energy,
and . The correspondent expression reminds one about 2d CFT entropy only for
conformal matter. At the same time, the cosmological Cardy-Verlinde formula
relating three typical FRW universe entropies remains to be universal for any
type of matter. The same conclusions hold in modified gravity which represents
gravitational alternative for dark energy and which contains terms growing at
low curvature. It is interesting that BHs in modified gravity are more entropic
than in Einstein gravity. Finally, some hydrodynamical examples testing new
shear viscosity bound, which is expected to be the consequence of the
holographic entropy bound, are presented for the early universe in the plasma
era and for the Kasner metric. It seems that the Kasner metric provides a
counterexample to the new shear viscosity bound.Comment: LaTeX file, 39 pages, references are adde
A Unified Approach to Variational Derivatives of Modified Gravitational Actions
Our main aim in this paper is to promote the coframe variational method as a
unified approach to derive field equations for any given gravitational action
containing the algebraic functions of the scalars constructed from the Riemann
curvature tensor and its contractions. We are able to derive a master equation
which expresses the variational derivatives of the generalized gravitational
actions in terms of the variational derivatives of its constituent curvature
scalars. Using the Lagrange multiplier method relative to an orthonormal
coframe, we investigate the variational procedures for modified gravitational
Lagrangian densities in spacetime dimensions . We study
well-known gravitational actions such as those involving the Gauss-Bonnet and
Ricci-squared, Kretchmann scalar, Weyl-squared terms and their algebraic
generalizations similar to generic theories and the algebraic
generalization of sixth order gravitational Lagrangians. We put forth a new
model involving the gravitational Chern-Simons term and also give three
dimensional New massive gravity equations in a new form in terms of the Cotton
2-form
Realistic Equations of State for the Primeval Universe
Early universe equations of state including realistic interactions between
constituents are built up. Under certain reasonable assumptions, these
equations are able to generate an inflationary regime prior to the
nucleosynthesis period. The resulting accelerated expansion is intense enough
to solve the flatness and horizon problems. In the cases of curvature parameter
\kappa equal to 0 or +1, the model is able to avoid the initial singularity and
offers a natural explanation for why the universe is in expansion.Comment: 32 pages, 5 figures. Citations added in this version. Accepted EPJ
BLACK HOLES AS PARTS OF ENTANGLED SYSTEMS
Abstract. A possible link between EPR-type quantum phenomena and astrophysical objects like black holes, under a new general definition of entanglement, is established. A new approach, involving backward time evolution and topology changes, is presented bringing to a definition of the system black hole-worm hole-white hole as an entangled system.
