A Survey, Classification and Critical Review of Light-Emitting Diode Drivers
Based on a survey on over 1400 commercial LED drivers and a literature review, a range of LED driver topologies are classified according to their applications, power ratings, performance and their energy storage and regulatory requirements. Both passive and active LED drivers are included in the review and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. This paper also presents an overall view on the technical and cost aspects of the LED technology, which is useful to both researchers and engineers in the lighting industry. Some general guidelines for selecting driver topologies are included to aid design engineers to make appropriate choices.published_or_final_versio
Localization length and impurity dielectric susceptibility in the critical regime of the metal-insulator transition in homogeneously doped p-type Ge
We have determined the localization length \xi and the impurity dielectric
susceptibility \chi_{\rm imp} as a function of Ga acceptor concentrations (N)
in nominally uncompensated ^{70}Ge:Ga just below the critical concentration
(N_c) for the metal-insulator transition. Both \xi and \chi_{\rm imp} diverge
at N_c according to the functions \xi\propto(1-N/N_c)^{-\nu} and \chi_{\rm
imp}\propto(N_c/N-1)^{-\zeta}, respectively, with \nu=1.2\pm0.3 and
\zeta=2.3\pm0.6 for 0.99N_c< N< N_c. Outside of this region (N<0.99N_c), the
values of the exponents drop to \nu=0.33\pm0.03 and \zeta=0.62\pm0.05. The
effect of the small amount of compensating dopants that are present in our
nominally uncompensated samples, may be responsible for the change of the

Critical Behavior of the Conductivity of Si:P at the Metal-Insulator Transition under Uniaxial Stress
We report new measurements of the electrical conductivity sigma of the
canonical three-dimensional metal-insulator system Si:P under uniaxial stress
S. The zero-temperature extrapolation of sigma(S,T -> 0) ~\S - S_c\^mu shows an
unprecidentedly sharp onset of finite conductivity at S_c with an exponent mu =
1. The value of mu differs significantly from that of earlier stress-tuning
results. Our data show dynamical sigma(S,T) scaling on both metallic and
insulating sides, viz. sigma(S,T) = sigma_c(T) F(\S - S_cT^y) where sigma_c(T)
is the conductivity at the critical stress S_c. We find y = 1/znu = 0.34 where
nu is the correlation-length exponent and z the dynamic critical exponent.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Rapid reviews methods series: guidance on literature search
This paper is part of a series of methodological guidance from the Cochrane Rapid Reviews Methods Group. Rapid reviews (RR) use modified systematic review methods to accelerate the review process while maintaining systematic, transparent and reproducible methods. In this paper, we address considerations for RR searches. We cover the main areas relevant to the search process: preparation and planning, information sources and search methods, search strategy development, quality assurance, reporting, and record management. Two options exist for abbreviating the search process: (1) reducing time spent on conducting searches and (2) reducing the size of the search result. Because screening search results is usually more resource-intensive than conducting the search, we suggest investing time upfront in planning and optimising the search to save time by reducing the literature screening workload. To achieve this goal, RR teams should work with an information specialist. They should select a small number of relevant information sources (eg, databases) and use search methods that are highly likely to identify relevant literature for their topic. Database search strategies should aim to optimise both precision and sensitivity, and quality assurance measures (peer review and validation of search strategies) should be applied to minimise errors
Wave function multifractality and dephasing at metal-insulator and quantum Hall transitions
We analyze the critical behavior of the dephasing rate induced by short-range
electron-electron interaction near an Anderson transition of metal-insulator or
quantum Hall type. The corresponding exponent characterizes the scaling of the
transition width with temperature. Assuming no spin degeneracy, the critical
behavior can be studied by performing the scaling analysis in the vicinity of
the non-interacting fixed point, since the latter is stable with respect to the
interaction. We combine an analytical treatment (that includes the
identification of operators responsible for dephasing in the formalism of the
non-linear sigma-model and the corresponding renormalization-group analysis in
dimensions) with numerical simulations on the Chalker-Coddington
network model of the quantum Hall transition. Finally, we discuss the current
understanding of the Coulomb interaction case and the available experimental

Photosynthetic electron flow affects H2O2 signaling by inactivation of catalase in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
A specific signaling role for H2O2 in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was demonstrated by the definition of a promoter that specifically responded to this ROS. Expression of a nuclear-encoded reporter gene driven by this promoter was shown to depend not only on the level of exogenously added H2O2 but also on light. In the dark, the induction of the reporter gene by H2O2 was much lower than in the light. This lower induction was correlated with an accelerated disappearance of H2O2 from the culture medium in the dark. Due to a light-induced reduction in catalase activity, H2O2 levels in the light remained higher. Photosynthetic electron transport mediated the light-controlled down-regulation of the catalase activity since it was prevented by 3-(3âČ4âČ-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU), an inhibitor of photosystem II. In the presence of light and DCMU, expression of the reporter gene was low while the addition of aminotriazole, a catalase inhibitor, led to a higher induction of the reporter gene by H2O2 in the dark. The role of photosynthetic electron transport and thioredoxin in this regulation was investigated by using mutants deficient in photosynthetic electron flow and by studying the correlation between NADP-malate dehydrogenase and catalase activities. It is proposed that, contrary to expectations, a controlled down-regulation of catalase activity occurs upon a shift of cells from dark to light. This down-regulation apparently is necessary to maintain a certain level of H2O2 required to activate H2O2-dependent signaling pathways
