    Get PDF
Grounded in the theoretical framework of interpretivism, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the experiences of a teacher from an inner city high school in South Texas when using interactive notebooks to inform students’ understanding of physics concepts. The participant for the study was purposefully selected with an intention to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences. Data collection incorporated multiple methods such as interviews, participant observations, and document analysis. Descriptive, In-vivo, process, and Labovian six-part model of narrative coding were used to reduce and manage data. The codes were grouped into eight categories. Two major themes were identified from the data analysis: Interactive Notebook - A Testimony of Constructive Learning and Interactive Notebook- A Pioneering Approach to Instruction. The findings of this study intersect science education and qualitative inquiry and create space for openended, autonomous, constructivist learning of scientific principles. Additionally, the findings raise implications for transferable aspects of individualized learning processes for any areas of education where concepts are challenging for students to grasp

A Study on Awareness Levels and Adaptation Strategies for Climate Variability among Farmers

Climate change has become a severe threat to the development and communities around the globe are already experiencing the sudden impacts. It is also being assumed that climate change will have significant negative impacts on agricultural productivity .In this respect 120 farmers were interviewed as respondents to explore the climate variability/change awareness and farmers mitigation strategies. This study was conducted in Rangareddy district of Telangana .Three mandals were selected randomly .From each mandal two villages and from each village 20 farmers were selected randomly .Total number of respondents are 120 Findings of the study indicated that farmers\u27 awareness regarding climate variability was very poor they were just having knowledge on behalf of their farming experience. Varied response was seen regarding causes of climate change. In addition, adaptations of mitigation strategies such as natural resource management, water harvesting, crop diversification migration to less weather prone area and USAge of weather resistant varieties were almost negligible. Results showed that out of 15 adaptation strategies, micro irrigation ranked first among farm adaptive measures, while crop insurance has ranked as least utilized. Conservation agriculture could be the most viable strategy. Farmers have to utilize their existing resources in judicious ways. It is suggested on the basis of findings that role of extension field staff should be diversified. Farmers need capacity building regarding conservation agriculture. Moreover, it is dire need to popularize climate change and its adaptation through effective media campaign

Perubahan Spatio-temporal B-value Gempa Mikro Di Lapangan Panasbumi X

Adaptations of the antioxidant system in erythrocytes of trained adult rats: Impact of intermittent hypobaric-hypoxia at two altitudes

    Get PDF
We have investigated the effects of daily exposure to intermittent hypobaric-hypoxia to two simulated altitudes (5700 m and 6300 m) in adult male rats that had been regularly swim trained in normoxia at sea level prior to exposures. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) along with the oxidative stress (OS) indices, malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl content were measured in erythrocytes and their membranes. Hemoglobin increased in the trained animals exposed to 5700 m and in untrained rats exposed to 6300 m. Osmotic fragility in terms of hemolysis increased in altitude exposed animals. SOD increased in those exposed to 6300 m, while CAT increased in trained rats exposed to 5700 m and to 6300 m unlike in untrained rats where CAT increased only at 6300 m. GSH-Px showed varying degrees of elevation in all animals exposed to both altitudes. Erythrocyte membranes showed significant elevations in malondialdehyde (MDA) at 6300 m, while elevated protein carbonyls were noticeable at both altitudes in whole cells and membranes. These results suggest a positively associated elevation in protein oxidation with altitude in trained rats. At 5700 m, animals were less stressed, unlike at 6300 m, as seen from the magnitude of elevations in the OS indices and from the responses of the antioxidant enzymes. © 2005 Elsevier Inc. Energy Efficient Cluster based Routing Scheme for WSN based IoT to Extend Network Lifetime

    Get PDF
With the development and advancement of wireless sensor networks (WSN), the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) has achieved prominence in the modern era. With the increasing number of connected devices, WSN has become a key factor in the communication component of the IoT. In IoT-based WSN infrastructure, devices are equipped with intelligent sensors that sense the environment to collect data, process data, and deliver information to the sink or base station (BS). WSN-assisted IoT has become a key technology for various data-centric applications such as health care, smart cities, and the military. Sensor nodes in IoT devices are equipped with bound and irreplaceable batteries. An increased number of connected devices face serious issues of energy depletion, maintenance, and load balancing, which might result in device failure. Energy efficiency is considered a vital parameter in the design of an IoT based WSN, and this can be accomplished through clustering and multihop routing techniques. In this paper, we propose an energy-aware multihop routing scheme (EAMRS) for hierarchical cluster-based WSN-assisted IoT. EAMRS considers the improved low-energy adaptive clustering algorithm (I-LEACH) to select optimal cluster heads (CH). During data transmission, multihop routing is involved by considering routing metrics such as residual energy, distance to BS and optimal route choice to balance the energy load. However, conventional routing schemes fail to achieve the flexibility and adaptability prerequisites of load balancing mechanisms. EAMRS decreases computation overhead and restricts energy usage, resulting in a prolonged network lifetime

Tamaka Swasa : A Case Study

    Get PDF
Tamaka Swasa is one among the Pranavaha Srotho Vikara. It is a Swatantra Vyadhi (independent disease) which is having its own etiological factors, pathophysiology and management. According to Charaka it is considered as Yapya Vyadhi (palliative disease), while Sushruta considered it as Krichchra Sadhya Vyadhi (difficult to cure), therefore proper line of treatment and implementation of excellent lifestyle is necessary for better quality of life. Currently an attempt has been made to explore the efficacy of such formulations in reducing the signs and symptoms of Tamaka Swasa. A case of 49-year-old male patient who presented with the symptoms of difficulty in breathing, chest pain, cough with whitish color sputum and generalized weakness of Tamaka Swasa was treated by internal Ayurvedic medicines and marked improvement was seen. After 4 weeks of follow up no episodes of above complaints have been reported.&nbsp
