    The Study of Navier Slip Condition on the Flow and Heat Transfer in a Coolant Surrounded an Exponentially Stretching Sheet

    The paper presents the study of velocity profiles in a hydrodynamic flow and heat transfer in a Newtonian fluid over an exponentially stretching sheet. Navier slip condition is used at the boundary. The stretching of the sheet is assumed to be nonlinearly proportional to the distance from slit. Non-linear partial differential equations characterize the flow phenomenon with boundary conditions in a semi infinite domain. The equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable local similarity transformation. The series solution of the transformed equations are obtained by using differential transform method and Pade approximation with assistance from the shooting method in obtaining the unknown initial values. The solution is obtained in a power series with assured convergence. The effects of various parameters on velocity and temperature profiles are presented graphically

    An experimental study to evaluate the antidotal activity of Neeli Moola (Indigofera tinctoria) Kalka w.s.r to haematological parameters in Vatsanabha (Aconitum ferox ) induced toxicity

    Background: Vatsanabha is a potent cardiac poison comes under the category of Mahavisha with its main active principles aconitine, picraconine and pseudaconine. In the literatures there are descriptions about toxicants and in some traditional Malayalam textbooks antidotes has been explained under the concept “Prathyoushadha”. Neeli Moola has been mentioned as a Prathyoushadha for Vatsanabha poisoning in a renowned textbook ‘Visha Vaidya Jyotsnika’. Hence to evaluate the antidotal activity in Vatsanabha poisoning, Neeli Moola Kalka has been used and the haematological parameters were analyzed to screen the results. Methods: Wistar strain albino rats were used in this study which were divided into 3 groups, normal control, toxic control and the test drug group. The duration of the study was 28 days .The data generated was mentioned as Mean±SEM. Difference among the groups was assessed by employing one way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s multiple ‘t’ test. Results: Reversible action has been observed after the administration of Neeli Moola Kalka in the hematological parameters which has shown toxicity changes due to administration of Vatsanabha. Conclusion: Neeli Moola Kalka is having mild to moderate antidote effect in Vatsanbha induced toxicity

    UFASOMES: UNSATURATED FATTY ACID BASED VESICULAR DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

    Various novel drug delivery systems have been developed encompassing several administration routes to deliver drugs at a rate decided as per the need of the body during the course of treatment and to achieve targeted therapy, also decreases undesirable side effects. Different types of vesicular drug delivery systems were developed, such as liposomes, niosomes, ufasomes etc. Ufasomes are unsaturated fatty acid vesicles which is a suspension of closed lipid bilayer formed from fatty acid and their ionized species having limited, narrow pH ranging from 7-9. Composition of fatty acid molecules is such that the hydrocarbon tails are pointed towards the inner core of the membrane and the carboxyl group are in touch with water. Stable ufasomes preparation mainly relies on appropriate choice of fatty acid, cholesterol quantity, range of the pH, buffer and lipoxygenase amount. Recent innovation provides very efficient features such as stability considerations, dynamic features and microscopic features of ufasomes.     Mitigation of harmonics for five level multilevel inverter with fuzzy logic controller

    Introduction. The advantages of a high-power quality waveform and a high voltage capability of multilevel inverters have made them increasingly popular in recent years. These inverters reduce harmonic distortion and improve the voltage output. Realistically speaking, as the number of voltage levels increases, so does the quality of the multilevel output-voltage waveform. When it comes to industrial power converters, these inverters are by far the most critical. Novelty. Multilevel cascade inverters can be used to convert multiple direct current sources into one direct current. These inverters have been getting a lot of attention recently for high-power applications. A cascade H-bridge multilevel inverter controller is proposed in this paper. A change in the pulse width of selective pulse width modulation modulates the output of the multilevel cascade inverter. Purpose. The total harmonic distortion can be reduced by using filters on controllers like PI and fuzzy logic controllers. Methods. The proposed topology is implemented with MATLAB/Simulink, using gating pulses and pulse width modulation methodology and fuzzy logic controllers. Moreover, the proposed model also has been validated and compared to the hardware system. Results. Total harmonic distortion, number of power switches, output voltage and number of DC sources are analyzed with conventional topologies. Practical value. The proposed topology has been very supportive for implementing photovoltaic based multilevel inverter, which is connected to large demand in grid and industry

    A prospective study on assessment of risk factors and impact of patient counselling in health-related quality of life of patients with coronary artery diseases

    Background: Cardiovascular disease is the most frequent cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. The aim of the study was to determine assessment of risk factors and impact of patient counseling in health-related quality of life of the patient.Method: This was a prospective observational study conducted in the department of cardiology. A suitably designed standard SF-36 questionnaire was given to all patients enrolled in the study before and after counseling. All information relevant to the study were collected in suitably designed proforma from case records and discussions conducted with the patients and bystanders during ward rounds. Proper counseling was given to patients and bystanders and the score was analyzed using SAS descriptive analysis.Result: The most common risk factors encountered in the study are diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, irregular exercise, smoking, alcoholism, obesity and family history. The health-related quality of life of the patients were assessed, a total of 67 patients QOL was improved after counseling and 27 patients with no improvement. We found that patient counseling was effective for majority of patients.Conclusions: We can conclude that the role of clinical pharmacist has a significant role in improving the health-related quality of life of patients through proper counseling. And more than half of the patients have a modifiable risk factor which can be managed through lifestyle modifications

    A novel tissue-specific meta-analysis approach for gene expression predictions, initiated with a mammalian gene expression testis database

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In the recent years, there has been a rise in gene expression profiling reports. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to make maximum use of available gene expression data. Many databases and programs can be used to derive the possible expression patterns of mammalian genes, based on existing data. However, these available resources have limitations. For example, it is not possible to obtain a list of genes that are expressed in certain conditions. To overcome such limitations, we have taken up a new strategy to predict gene expression patterns using available information, for one tissue at a time.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The first step of this approach involved manual collection of maximum data derived from large-scale (genome-wide) gene expression studies, pertaining to mammalian testis. These data have been compiled into a Mammalian Gene Expression Testis-database (MGEx-Tdb). This process resulted in a richer collection of gene expression data compared to other databases/resources, for multiple testicular conditions. The gene-lists collected this way in turn were exploited to derive a 'consensus' expression status for each gene, across studies. The expression information obtained from the newly developed database mostly agreed with results from multiple small-scale studies on selected genes. A comparative analysis showed that MGEx-Tdb can retrieve the gene expression information more efficiently than other commonly used databases. It has the ability to provide a clear expression status (transcribed or dormant) for most genes, in the testis tissue, under several specific physiological/experimental conditions and/or cell-types.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Manual compilation of gene expression data, which can be a painstaking process, followed by a consensus expression status determination for specific locations and conditions, can be a reliable way of making use of the existing data to predict gene expression patterns. MGEx-Tdb provides expression information for 14 different combinations of specific locations and conditions in humans (25,158 genes), 79 in mice (22,919 genes) and 23 in rats (14,108 genes). It is also the first system that can predict expression of genes with a 'reliability-score', which is calculated based on the extent of agreements and contradictions across gene-sets/studies.     Complex and shifting interactions of phytochromes regulate fruit development in tomato

    Tomato fruit ripening is a complex metabolic process regulated by a genetical hierarchy. A subset of this process is also modulated by light-signaling, as mutants encoding negative regulators of phytochrome signal transduction, show higher accumulation of carotenoids. In tomato phytochromes are encoded by a multi-gene family, namely PhyA, PhyB1, PhyB2, PhyE and PhyF, however, their contribution to fruit development and ripening has not been examined. Using single phytochrome mutants- phyA, phyB1 and phyB2 and multiple mutants- phyAB1, phyB1B2 and phyAB1B2, we compared the on-vine transitory phases of ripening till fruit abscission. The phyAB1B2 mutant showed accelerated transitions during ripening with shortest time to fruit abscission. Comparison of transition intervals in mutants indicated a phase-specific influence of different phytochrome species either singly or in combination on the ripening process. Examination of off-vine ripened fruits indicated that ripening specific carotenoid accumulation was not obligatorily dependent on light and even dark incubated fruits accumulated carotenoids. The accumulation of transcripts and carotenoids in off-vine and on-vine ripened mutant fruits indicated a complex and shifting phase-dependent modulation by phytochromes(s). Our results indicate that in addition to regulating carotenoid levels in tomato fruits, phytochrome(s) also regulate the time required for phase transitions during ripening

    Beneficial health effects of cumin (Cuminum cyminum) seeds upon incorporation as a potential feed additive in livestock and poultry: A mini-review

    Cumin (Cuminum cyminum Linn) is an annual plant of the family Umbelliferae, with its use dating back to ancient times when it was cultivated for its medicinal and culinary potential. Cumin seeds could contain a wide variety of phytochemicals, including alkaloids, coumarins, anthraquinones, flavonoids, glycosides, proteins, resins, saponins, tannins, and steroids. In particular, linoleic acid, one of the unsaturated fatty acids found in abundance in cumin oleoresin, is credited with promoting good health. Many of cumin's purported biological actions in livestock and poultry have been attributed to flavonoids such as apigenin, luteolin, and glycosides. Cumin has several healthful qualities, such as antibacterial, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-diabetic, anti-platelet aggregation, hypotensive, bronchodilatory, immunological, anti-amyloidogenic, and anti-osteoporotic properties. Cumin supplementation may improve milk production and reproductive function in dairy cows by altering the feeding pattern of bacteria in the rumen, encouraging the growth of beneficial microbes, or stimulating the secretion of certain digestive enzymes. Because of the low price of cumin seed, it could be concluded that its inclusion in the diet might be beneficial to the commercial poultry industry and reduce the overall cost of egg and meat production. In recent years a rise in cumin's popularity has been seen as a result of the herbal movement spearheaded by naturopaths, yoga gurus, advocates of alternative medicine, and manufacturers of feed additives. Animal nutritionists are exploring the use of cumin for its potential to boost growth, improve nutrient usage efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
