The discourse of epistemological conflict in the Islamic thought is still prevailing in this multicultural era. The emergence of inter-religious problem is one of a clear example that emanate from epistemological debate. This problem is expected to end through collaboration between the two, or at least epistemological dialogue. In the history of Islamic thought, there was a great debate between knowledge systems hud}u>ri> which was the continuation of ancient pre-islamic tradition (al-mauru>s\ al-qadi>m)- and knowledge of knowledge syar’i> (baya>ni). Ultimately, by integrating between hud}u>ri>  and syar’i> or between z}a>hir and ba>t}in,  the discourse is ended. Suhrawardi has combined between knowledge of hud}u>ri>  with rational knowledge. Ultimately, through exhausting effort he was able to generate knowledge system which is known as the philosophy of isyra>q &nbsp

Saliency difference based objective evaluation method for a superimposed screen of the HUD with various background

The head-up display (HUD) is an emerging device which can project information on a transparent screen. The HUD has been used in airplanes and vehicles, and it is usually placed in front of the operator's view. In the case of the vehicle, the driver can see not only various information on the HUD but also the backgrounds (driving environment) through the HUD. However, the projected information on the HUD may interfere with the colors in the background because the HUD is transparent. For example, a red message on the HUD will be less noticeable when there is an overlap between it and the red brake light from the front vehicle. As the first step to solve this issue, how to evaluate the mutual interference between the information on the HUD and backgrounds is important. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to evaluate the mutual interference based on saliency. It can be evaluated by comparing the HUD part cut from a saliency map of a measured image with the HUD image.Comment: 10 pages, 5 fighres, 1 table, accepted by IFAC-HMS 201

Democracy (In)Action: How HUD, NYCHA and Official Structures Undermine Resident Participation in New York City Public Housing

    Get PDF
New York City public housing is the oldest and largest program of its kind in North America with close to 180,000 apartments in 336 developments officially housing over 400,000 residents. Unofficially, the public housing system makes it possible for over a half million low-income New Yorkers to remain in an increasingly unaffordable city. With so much at stake, those who consider themselves stewards of public housing welcome the existence of federal regulations (known as the 964 regs) that enable residents to participate in the betterment of their developments as well as in the policymaking process that affects public housing throughout the city.Broadly speaking, resident participation has been shown to lead to a number of key benefits, including: better building conditions and quality of life, more satisfaction with living conditions overall, the feelingof empowerment gained through enhanced control over one's living situation, and the building of community. This, in turn, has a positive impact beyondthese immediate benefits to residents. It makes it easier for landlords to maintain their properties and contributes to the overall well being of American cities by building vibrant, sustainable communities. This research set out to explore whether or not the current regulations and structures around which public housing resident participation in NYC is currently organized, result in the meaningful and democratic processes that bring about these benefits

Regulation of Kv11.1 Potassium Channel C-Terminal Isoform Expression by the RNA-Binding Proteins HuR and HuD

The potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 2 (KCNH2) gene encodes the Kv11.1 potassium channel, which conducts the rapidly activating delayed rectifier current in the heart. KCNH2 pre-mRNA undergoes alternative polyadenylation and forms a functional, full-length Kv11.1a isoform if exon 15 is polyadenylated or a nonfunctional, C-terminally truncated Kv11.1a-USO isoform if intron 9 is polyadenylated. The molecular mechanisms that regulate Kv11.1 isoform expression are poorly understood. In this study, using HEK293 cells and reporter gene expression, pulldown assays, and RNase protection assays, we identified the RNA-binding proteins Hu antigen R (HuR) and Hu antigen D (HuD) as regulators of Kv11.1 isoform expression. We show that HuR and HuD inhibit activity at the intron 9 polyadenylation site. When co-expressed with the KCNH2 gene, HuR and HuD increased levels of the Kv11.1a isoform and decreased the Kv11.1a-USO isoform in the RNase protection assays and immunoblot analyses. In patch clamp experiments, HuR and HuD significantly increased the Kv11.1 current. siRNA-mediated knockdown of HuR protein decreased levels of the Kv11.1a isoform and increased those of the Kv11.1a-USO isoform. Our findings suggest that the relative expression levels of Kv11.1 C-terminal isoforms are regulated by the RNA-binding HuR and HuD proteins

Impact of double-logarithmic electroweak radiative corrections on the non-singlet structure functions at small x

In the QCD context, the non-singlet structure functions of u and d -quarks are identical, save the initial quark densities. Electroweak radiative corrections, being flavor-dependent, bring further difference between the non-singlets. This difference is calculated in the double-logarithmic approximation and the impact of the electroweak corrections on the non-singlet intercepts is estimated numerically.Comment: 17 pages, no figure

    Kajkavizmi u "Tkonskom zborniku"

    Get PDF
Tkonski zbornik is a glagolitic miscellany with various religious and moral content: ecclesiastical dramas, poems, legends and apocrypha, didactic articles, speeches, Cvet od kreposti, instructions for confessors, blessings, etc. It was written at the beginning of the 16th century somewhere on the property of the Frankopan family. The language of the miscellany is mostly a čakavian-Church Slavonic hybrid with elements of the kajkavian dialect. Infiltration of the kajkavian elements is not equal in all parts of the codex but is most frequent in Cvet od kreposti (67 - 85) and Muka Spasitelja našega (109 - 161). In the Miscellany of Tkon kajkavian elements at the phonological, morphological, lexical and syntactic levels have been attested. The most frequent kajkavian elements are those on the lexical level. They can be divided in two groups: 1. the common čakavian-kajkavian strata, e. g. betegь, gdo, nigdar, hiniti, hud, kaštigati, lotar, etc. 2. kajkavian strata, e. g. fajtati, gorup, nekoteri, pokrivača, škoda, špotati, tanac, etc. The lexemes of the first group are infiltrated in almost all of the parts of the Miscellany. The lexemes of the second group are the most frequent in Cvet od kreposti and Muka. The comparison of certain lexemes with those of croato-glagolitic missals and breviaries has shown that some of them were attested earlier, e. g. betegь, kaštigati, praviti, gorup, tanac, etc. It confirms the continuity of croato-glagolitic literacy. The conclusion is that the Miscellany of Tkon is a manuscript combined from various parts which originated neither in the same time nor in the same location. As kajkavian elements are found in all levels of the language we can assume that Cvet od kreposti and Muka originated in the northern area i. e. somewhat closer to the kajkavian area
