Pulsed Ultrasound Does Not Affect Recovery From Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
Aim: To investigate the effects of pulsed Ultrasound (US) in recovery from Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).
Methods: Twelve healthy male athletes (mean age 23.83±1.697 year) performed an eccentric exercise protocol of non-dominant elbow flexors to induce muscle soreness on 2 occasions separated by 3 weeks. Subjects in experimental group received pulsed US (1 MHz, intensity 0.8 W/cm2, mark space ratio 1:10), whereas control group received sham US after 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. Perception of muscle soreness, active ROM and muscle strength were the parameters measured at 0 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h with the help of VAS, manual goniometer and JONEX muscles master instrument respectively.
Results: Post hoc t test analysis revealed significant differences (p <0.05) between 0 h and 72 h in the parameter of ROM (t = 6.18) and muscle power (t = 2.54) as well as between 24 h and 48 h in the parameter of muscle soreness (t = 3.13) in control group. Similar differences were also observed in the experimental group. No significant inter-group differences at α level of 0.05 was observed in any parameter at any level.
Conclusion: The pattern of recovery from DOMS was not influenced by the application of pulsed Ultrasound at the parameters discussed here
Nonsubjective priors via predictive relative entropy regret
We explore the construction of nonsubjective prior distributions in Bayesian
statistics via a posterior predictive relative entropy regret criterion. We
carry out a minimax analysis based on a derived asymptotic predictive loss
function and show that this approach to prior construction has a number of
attractive features. The approach here differs from previous work that uses
either prior or posterior relative entropy regret in that we consider
predictive performance in relation to alternative nondegenerate prior
distributions. The theory is illustrated with an analysis of some specific
examples.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/009053605000000804 in the

Objective Bayes testing of Poisson versus inflated Poisson models
The Poisson distribution is often used as a standard model for count data.
Quite often, however, such data sets are not well fit by a Poisson model
because they have more zeros than are compatible with this model. For these
situations, a zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution is often proposed. This
article addresses testing a Poisson versus a ZIP model, using Bayesian
methodology based on suitable objective priors. Specific choices of objective
priors are justified and their properties investigated. The methodology is
extended to include covariates in regression models. Several applications are
given.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/074921708000000093 the IMS

HIV in pregnancy
HIV is a disease caused by retrovirus (HIV-1 or HIV-2) the that attacks the immune system of the body, leaving it susceptible to various dangerous infections. HIV can have profound effects on pregnancy and pregnancy may in turn cause an aggravation of signs and symptoms HIV.A pregnant woman living with HIV can pass on the virus to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth and through breastfeeding. This is called Vertical transmission of HIV. Without any intervention, the rate of vertical transmission of HIV is as much as 15-45%. National PPTCT program of India run by NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) aims at preventing HIV transmission from mother to child. Women who are known HIV positives or those who are diagnosed as HIV positive for the first-time during pregnancy, are given Triple Dose Anti Retro-viral therapy comprising of Tenofovir, Lamivudine and Efavirenz. Special precautions are taken during their delivery. Whether LSCS is to be performed depends on the indications and on which guidelines are followed. Infant- feeding is advised to be carried out as per the guidelines stated in the PPTCT act so as to minimize the chances of HIV transmission to the infant

Extra-judicial killings in India: a crisis of justice, faith and public morality?
This post discusses extrajudicial killings in India, the consequent legal challenges they create, and the increasing normalisation of such encounters through pop culture and public acclamation. Gauri Kumar and Naina Bhargava highlight these arguments using specific examples, and present the existing response of the Supreme Court of India regarding extrajudicial killings
A Bayesian test for excess zeros in a zero-inflated power series distribution
Power series distributions form a useful subclass of one-parameter discrete
exponential families suitable for modeling count data. A zero-inflated power
series distribution is a mixture of a power series distribution and a
degenerate distribution at zero, with a mixing probability for the
degenerate distribution. This distribution is useful for modeling count data
that may have extra zeros. One question is whether the mixture model can be
reduced to the power series portion, corresponding to , or whether there
are so many zeros in the data that zero inflation relative to the pure power
series distribution must be included in the model i.e., . The problem
is difficult partially because is a boundary point. Here, we present a
Bayesian test for this problem based on recognizing that the parameter space
can be expanded to allow to be negative. Negative values of are
inconsistent with the interpretation of as a mixing probability, however,
they index distributions that are physically and probabilistically meaningful.
We compare our Bayesian solution to two standard frequentist testing procedures
and find that using a posterior probability as a test statistic has slightly
higher power on the most important ranges of the sample size and parameter
values than the score test and likelihood ratio test in simulations. Our method
also performs well on three real data sets.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/193940307000000068 the IMS

A Novel Approach for Efficient User Revocation with Maintaining Shared Data Integrity on Cloud
Cloud computing is the biggest innovation in computing world. It provides great facilities of data sharing and data storing to its users. Here a main risk occurs as data security in aspects of data integrity, data privacy and data access by unauthorized users. TTA (Trusted Third Party) is used by cloud service providers to ensure data security and privacy. In cloud, data modification and data sharing among the group of users is very simple task .To maintain integrity of the shared data, group members needs to compute signatures on all shared data which are available in blocks. Different blocks in shared data are generally signed by different users due to data modifications performed by different users. User revocation is one of the biggest security issue during data sharing. After user revocation, shared data signed by revoked user, needs to re-sign by existing user. This task is very inefficacious due to the large size of shared data needs to download before re-signing it. This paper is a detail description of cloud public auditor which is used for the maintaining integrity of shared data with efficient user revocation in the cloud. This mechanism uses concept of proxy re-signatures which allows the cloud to re-sign blocks on behalf of existing users during user revocation, so there is no need of data downloading. It also performs batch monitoring to verify multiple tasks simultaneously.
