[EN] The main purpose of this investigation is to offer a didactic approach to Mash-Up as a literary genre, a profitable mainstream market vogue originated after the release of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in 2009 by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith—a hybrid novel where elements belonging to Z-Fiction were introduced into the British author's classic, prompting an experimental genre that (re)imagined canonical works, attracting diverse readers, particularly Young Adult (YA) consumers interestedin their hybrid content. In addition to an approach to this experimental genre, this thesis proposes to trace a direct connection between the phenomenon and creative expressions belonging to fandom culture, specifically that of fanfiction, generally understood as the (re)writing or expansion of already-existing fictional worlds by enthusiastic fans. To connect these ideas, this research presents the timeless and extremely popular figure of Jane Austen as a nexus of union, an essential name behind the origin and development of the vogue with her literature being (re)imagined through the introduction of all sorts of elements belonging to the popular imaginary

    Multi-Resolution Texture Coding for Multi-Resolution 3D Meshes

We present an innovative system to encode and transmit textured multi-resolution 3D meshes in a progressive way, with no need to send several texture images, one for each mesh LOD (Level Of Detail). All texture LODs are created from the finest one (associated to the finest mesh), but can be re- constructed progressively from the coarsest thanks to refinement images calculated in the encoding process, and transmitted only if needed. This allows us to adjust the LOD/quality of both 3D mesh and texture according to the rendering power of the device that will display them, and to the network capacity. Additionally, we achieve big savings in data transmission by avoiding altogether texture coordinates, which are generated automatically thanks to an unwrapping system agreed upon by both encoder and decoder

ITEM: Inter-Texture Error Measurement for 3D Meshes

    Get PDF
We introduce a simple and innovative method to compare any two texture maps, regardless of their sizes, aspect ratios, or even masks, as long as they are both meant to be mapped onto the same 3D mesh. Our system is based on a zero-distortion 3D mesh unwrapping technique which compares two new adapted texture atlases with the same mask but different texel colors, and whose every texel covers the same area in 3D. Once these adapted atlases are created, we measure their difference with ITEM-RMSE, a slightly modified version of the standard RMSE defined for images. ITEM-RMSE is more meaningful and reliable than RMSE because it only takes into account the texels inside the mask, since they are the only ones that will actually be used during rendering. Our method is not only very useful to compare the space efficiency of different texture atlas generation algorithms, but also to quantify texture loss in compression schemes for multi-resolution textured 3D meshes

Mujer rural, capital social y asociacionismo en Extremadura

    Get PDF

[EN]: The Roman municipium of Augustobriga had its heyday during the Imperial Period and then was gradually abandoned. In 1489 its territory was stacked for the establishment of a “new" population: Talavera la Vieja, a name that suggest the antiquity of the land on which it is located. In 1963 the site was flooded as a consequence of the building of the Valdecañas dam. This circumstance has severely limited the possibilities of further archaeological research, making historiography the main source of knowledge about the characteristics and urbanism of the Roman town.Peer Reviewe

Genetic association study of dyslexia and ADHD candidate genes in a Spanish cohort: Implications of comorbid samples

    Get PDF
Dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are two complex neuro-behaviorally disorders that co-occur more often than expected, so that reading disability has been linked to inattention symptoms. We examined 4 SNPs located on genes previously associated to dyslexia (KIAA0319, DCDC2, DYX1C1 and FOXP2) and 3 SNPs within genes related to ADHD (COMT, MAOA and DBH) in a cohort of Spanish children (N = 2078) that met the criteria of having one, both or none of these disorders (dyslexia and ADHD). We used a case-control approach comparing different groups of samples based on each individual diagnosis. In addition, we also performed a quantitative trait analysis with psychometric measures on the general population (N = 3357). The results indicated that the significance values for some markers change depending on the phenotypic groups compared and/or when considering pair-wise marker interactions. Furthermore, our quantitative trait study showed significant genetic associations with specific cognitive processes. These outcomes advocate the importance of establishing rigorous and homogeneous criteria for the diagnosis of cognitive disorders, as well as the relevance of considering cognitive endophenotypes. The work of MSM and MC was supported by CONSOLIDER-Ingenio- 2010_COEDUCA (CSD2008-00048). Long-Term Tree Regeneration of Fragmented Agroforestry Systems Under Varying Climatic Conditions

    Get PDF
Iberian dehesas and montados are agroforestry systems protected by the European Habitats Directive due to high levels of biological diversity associated to their savannah-like structure. Tree scattering in dehesas, montados and other agroforestry systems is, however, known to compromise tree regeneration, although recent work suggests that it may protect tree populations from climate warming by alleviating plant-plant competition. We analyze how climatic conditions, tree isolation and their interactions influence the outcomes of regeneration stages, from flower production to early seedling establishment, using data gathered during the long-term monitoring (2001–2018) of ca. 300 Holm oak Quercus ilex trees located in central Spain. Holm oak reproductive effort, predispersal seed losses, and early seedling recruitment were sensitive to climate change, especially to year-round drought. Effort and early seedling recruitment decreased, while abortion and predispersal seed predation increased, with higher drought intensity. Spring warming increases pollination effectiveness, but had no further effect on acorn crops. Forest clearing seemed to have little scope to ameliorate these negative effects, as shown by weak or no interactive effects between the spatial configuration of trees (cover or isolation) and climate variables (spring temperature or drought intensity). Forest opening aimed at decreasing adult tree mortality under climate change scenarios would then have little or no effects on tree recruitment. Landscape-scale rotations alternating shrub encroachment and thinning along periods adapted to changing climate are proposed as the main management option to preserve both oak forests and dehesas in the long term.Fil: Díaz, Mario.
