    Comparative analysis of social bookmarking tools

    [Resumen] Los marcadores sociales son sistemas de etiquetado social de enlaces que han sido ampliamente utilizados en bibliotecas y servicios de información. Sin embargo, no se ha llevado a cabo un estudio del modelo de gestión de información subyacente, ni de las funcionalidades técnicas necesarias para cumplir con los requerimientos del modelo. Este trabajo delinea un modelo genérico basado en la detección de funcionalidades, y lo aplica sobre ocho servicios de marcados sociales. Los resultados obtenidos permiten afirmar que las prestaciones de los servicios no cubren todas las funcionalidades del modelo genérico, y que la capa de prestaciones sociales es insuficiente.[Abstract] Social bookmarks are systems of social labeling of links that have been widely used in libraries and information services. However, there hasn't been a study of the information management model underlying social bookmarking tools, or technical capabilities necessary to meet the requirements of the model. This paper outlines a generic model based on the detection of features, and applies it on eight social bookmarking services. The results confirm that the performance of the services do not cover all features of the generic model, and the layer of social services is inadequate

    This paper reviews the informational behavior of a community of university students during the development of a learning activity with a wiki. Through a case study, analyzes the data available on the wiki, and identifies patterns of creating and organizing content. The wiki study is also done within the information management framework proposed by Rowley. The findings support the conclusion that students apply the principle of economy of effort in their informational behavior, guided by the assessment requirements of that activity, and Rowley's proposal is not suitable for analyzing and evaluating educational processes technologically mediated

    The content management systems (content management systems, CMS) are software packages that allow to create, publish, and archive digital content. On these platforms play a key role classification schemes. This work evaluates the implementation of features for classification schemes in these tools. To do this, we have defined a test method, and have been studied ten software packages, with the aim of determining the different types of classification schemes supported, in relation to the content that they manage. The evaluation was carried out by heuristic analysis, presence / absence of functionalities, and numerical indicators. The results have been collected in comparative tables. The conclusions obtained are such that the solutions provided are incomplete and partial, and do not exploit the full potential underlying classification schemes

    This paper reviews, using a descriptive approach, the characteristics of analysis and description of the ancient photography available on Wikimedia Commons. Six collections have been selected, provided by GLAM institutions. On a selection of 60 images, it is checked if they have been described following the Dublin Core, ISAD (G) or Europeana Data Model metadata schemas. The results obtained allow to affirm that description standards and metadata schemas are not applied. The development of semantic labeling in Wikimedia Commons may be an approach that offers a solution to these deficiencies

    This paper reviews the study and use of the Wikipedia category system in the scientific research, adopting a systematic literature review approach, but considering the qualitative review of the content of a set of selected papers. Several types of work are identified, depending on the intrinsic study of the category system, or its use as a tool for the analysis of other documentary corpus other than Wikipedia. We conclude that the system of categories offers a valid classification scheme for different approaches and studies on the organization of knowledge in multiple contexts
