    Get PDF
Kinship, family composition and household dynamics among siblings are developed positively or negatively in early life right through adulthood. Hence, the purpose of this paper is highlight the importance of family environment in influencing sibling relationship, with emphasis on sibling rivalry. Determining the factors that contribute towards sibling competition is important in counselling and assisting individuals with family issues. From a quantitative research approach, the findings showed that sibling relationships are problematic and has led to jealousies and prejudices especially if parents take sides. Family ties depend on happy sibling interactions which indirectly affects socio-economic developments as social ills are resolved. In ameliorating these private and sensitive issues among family members, the holistic society will benefit psychologically and happiness as well as a better quality of life will be attained.© 2016. The research objectives were to determine the relationships between age, education level, previous employment, and marital status towards the quality of life among the elderly at Rumah Seri Kenangan, Cheras. The study employed a quantitative research approach through the adoption of the Ferrans conceptual model for quality of life. The consensus sampling technique evoked a sample size of n=145. The analyses obtained from this study revealed that there were no significant relationships between the first three independent variables to their quality of life except for marital status; the quality of life is better if there is companionship among the elderly. Keywords: Elderly; Quality of Life; Social environment; DemographyeISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019. The Madrid Protocol 1991 and its Environmental Impacts towards the Quality of Life

    Get PDF
AbstractIn 1991, the Madrid Protocol on environmental protection in Antarctica was added to the Antarctic Treaty. Antarctica has a central role in determining the Earth's climate and oceanic circulation patterns. The environmental principles in the Protocol include requirements for prior assessment for all activities. The environmental impacts of all activities is necessary to assess predicted impacts towards the quality of life in Antarctica and elsewhere. Antarctica faces a number of challenges, which have significant environmental implications. This paper explores the conceptual relationship between the quality of life and the Protocol and the wider implication of the concept

Humanoid Research on Brain-Impaired Children: Comparative Policies

    Get PDF
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to provide rigorous, narrative and in-depth scrutiny on the policies in humanoid research on brain-impaired children. In the health care industry, the use of therapeutic robots in rehabilitation has been significant. Thus, the paper will explore the fundamental, benchmarking issues of similar policies and guidelines of other nations to suit Malaysia's research environment. The methodology for this study will employ library research and content analyses including insider input. The four policies are; the Malaysia National Welfare Policy (1990), the Malaysia National Social Policy (2003), the Malaysia National Policy for Persons with Disabilities (2007), and the Malaysia National Plan of Action for Persons with Disabilities (2007-2012). From the five policy papers, it is expected that any research projects involving children with mental disabilities will require the compliance with the current statutes and policies but should there emerge a unique case, an extension to one of the policies would have to be undertaken to circumvent ethics in research practices. Also, the narrative outcome from this scrutiny includes a discussion of the relevance of these policies

    Get PDF
Family discords or quarrels are considered normal and ordinary. However, the level and intensity of the discords and disputes have led to incidences of fratricide and sororicide. In the case of fratricide (the killing of one’s brother) and sororicide (the killing of one’s sister), the escalating number of incidences as reported in the media requires proper intervention by the relevant parties. The aim of this paper is to review published articles on family discords and violence, particularly on incidences of fratricide and sororicide. The findings and implications of the findings will be discussed in this review paper. Keywords: fratricide; sororicide; discord; family environmentISSN: 2398-4287© 2017. The Authors. Get PDF
AbstractEnvironmental issues on public transport and greening the campus for sustainability have been the priorities for Malaysian public universities, particularly in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the bus service. The study focused on twelve universities (N=8000) in the Klang valley, Selangor, Malaysia. Also, interviews with university transport officers presented the qualitative aspects for data triangulation. Results from the analysis provided the empirical evidence for campus bus service efficacy leading towards a greener and conducive environment on the university grounds. Greening the campus should be a shared core responsibility where all stakeholders should take an active part in environmental care

    Get PDF
The pandemic lockdown provided the impetus for working from home or telework. The survey objective was to gauge the employees' job satisfaction and performance while working from home. Responses from 503 (80.9%) administrative staff from Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Selangor, Malaysia, were analyzed. The findings indicated that 87.1% were satisfied with working from home; however, the work performance, measured through the availability of ICT peripherals, showed a dismaying 53.7%. The implications from the findings require university administrators to reassess the policy for working from home; that is, only employees with adequate ICT equipment can be allowed to telework. Get PDF
The purpose of the paper is to examine the effect between gender dichotomy and dividend payout. The objective of the paper is to provide adequate support for research through rigorous reviews of the literature on board dichotomy relative to gender and dividend payout. Board dichotomy of board members relative to gender seems to have a positive association with dividend payout. Ownership structure, especially institutional ownership, seems to have an association with dividend payout compared to other variables of ownership structure. The two corporate governance components have a monitoring role, can be a substitute or a tool for corporate governance improvement, and a signal to investors on dividend payout. Keywords: corporate environment; board composition; gender; dividend payouteISSN: 2398-4287 © 2020. Get PDF
This paper describes the socio-psychological issues that hinder the holistic usage of ERP system among sampled Malaysian SME’s that were the vendors through government outsourced projects. Five hundred questionnaires were sent to the pre-identified SMEs in Selangor through e-mail, 251 questionnaires were returned and only 110 were taken for data analysis, representing 44% of the response rate. The study found that the perceived benefits and social influence have positive significant relationship with the ERP system usage. The social influence has the strongest effect towards the ERP system usage among SMEs in Selangor. The system complexity does not influence the relationship between socio-psychological factors and ERP system usage among SMEs in Selangor. This study provides insight for the management of SMEs and the service providers on the factors influencing the ERP system usage. It contributes to the breadth of knowledge of the ERP system in SMEs from the perspective of a developing nation since the SMEs play an important role in the nation’s economy
