Study of alteration and degradation products of a Roman marble sarcophagus located in the medieval cloister of the old st Cosimato’s Convent, now the new "Regina Margherita Hospital” (Rome)
Optical and SEM-EDS microscopy, FT-IR and mFT-IR spectroscopy investigations have been applied to the study of alteration and degradation products of a Roman sarcophagus located in the medieval cloister of St Cosimato’s Convent, now the new “Regina Margherita Hospital” (Rome) before restoration work.
This scientific analysis was performed in order to compare it with a diagnosis report based on the restorer’s expertise. The sarcophagus is small and consists of a single block of fine-grained marble covered by a thick pink patina. The results obtained from this diagnostic investigation, allow us to draw important conclusions about the state of conservation of this archaeological artefact. The main components found in the samples analyzed are: black crust, calcium oxalate, organic matter due to recent conservation treatment, calcite, iron-oxides and coloured earths. The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) Science White Paper
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) project is a new
generation multi-component instrument, to be built at 4410 meters of altitude
in the Sichuan province of China, with the aim to study with unprecedented
sensitivity the spec trum, the composition and the anisotropy of cosmic rays in
the energy range between 10 and 10 eV, as well as to act
simultaneously as a wide aperture (one stereoradiant), continuously-operated
gamma ray telescope in the energy range between 10 and eV. The
experiment will be able of continuously surveying the TeV sky for steady and
transient sources from 100 GeV to 1 PeV, t hus opening for the first time the
100-1000 TeV range to the direct observations of the high energy cosmic ray
sources. In addition, the different observables (electronic, muonic and
Cherenkov/fluorescence components) that will be measured in LHAASO will allow
to investigate origin, acceleration and propagation of the radiation through a
measurement of energy spec trum, elemental composition and anisotropy with
unprecedented resolution. The remarkable sensitivity of LHAASO in cosmic rays
physics and gamma astronomy would play a key-role in the comprehensive general
program to explore the High Energy Universe. LHAASO will allow important
studies of fundamental physics (such as indirect dark matter search, Lorentz
invariance violation, quantum gravity) and solar and heliospheric physics. In
this document we introduce the concept of LHAASO and the main science goals,

More Data and New Tools. Advances in Parsing the Index Thomisticus Treebank
This paper investigates the recent advances in parsing the Index Thomisticus Treebank, which encompasses Medieval Latin texts by Thomas Aquinas. The research focuses on two types of variables. On the one hand, it examines the impact that a larger dataset has on the results of parsing; on the other hand, performances of new parsers are analysed with respect to less recent tools. Term of comparison to determine the effective parsing advances are the results in parsing the Index Thomisticus Treebank described in a previous work. First, the best performing parser among those concerned in that study is tested on a larger dataset than the one originally used. Then, some parser combinations that were developed in the same study are evaluated as well, assessing that more training data result in more accurate performances. Finally, to examine the impact that newly available tools have on parsing results, we train, test, and evaluate two neural parsers chosen among those best performing in the CoNLL 2018 Shared Task. Our experiments reach the highest accuracy rates achieved so far in automatic syntactic parsing of the Index Thomisticus Treebank and of Latin overall

Linking the Dictionary of Medieval Latin in the Czech Lands to the LiLa Knowledge Base
The paper presents the process of linking the Dictionary of Medieval Latin in the Czech Lands to the LiLa Knowledge Base, which adopts the Linked Data paradigm to make linguistic resources for Latin interoperable. An overview of the Dictionary and of the architecture of the LiLa Knowledge Base is first provided; then, the stages of the process of linking the Dictionary to LiLa’s collection of lemmas are described. In conclusion, a query illustrates how interoperability allows for full exploitation of Latin resources

After an overview on possible types of homography, the authors report on results obtained from the LEMLAT lemmatizer.
