Robot guidance using machine vision techniques in industrial environments: A comparative review

    Get PDF
In the factory of the future, most of the operations will be done by autonomous robots that need visual feedback to move around the working space avoiding obstacles, to work collaboratively with humans, to identify and locate the working parts, to complete the information provided by other sensors to improve their positioning accuracy, etc. Different vision techniques, such as photogrammetry, stereo vision, structured light, time of flight and laser triangulation, among others, are widely used for inspection and quality control processes in the industry and now for robot guidance. Choosing which type of vision system to use is highly dependent on the parts that need to be located or measured. Thus, in this paper a comparative review of different machine vision techniques for robot guidance is presented. This work analyzes accuracy, range and weight of the sensors, safety, processing time and environmental influences. Researchers and developers can take it as a background information for their future works

Building and Collapse of the Cadomian Orogen: A Plate-Scale Model Based on Structural Data From the SW Iberian Massif

    Get PDF
The Cadomian Orogeny produced a subduction-related orogen along the periphery of Gondwana and configured the pre-Variscan basement of the Iberian Massif. The architecture of the Cadomian Orogen requires detailed structural analysis for reconstruction because of severe tectonic reworking during the Paleozoic (Variscan cycle). Tectonometamorphic analysis and data compilation in SW Iberia (La Serena Massif, Spain) have allowed the identification of three Cadomian deformation phases and further constrained the global architecture and large-scale processes that contributed to the Ediacaran building and early Paleozoic dismantling of the Cadomian Orogen. The first phase (DC1, prior to 573 Ma) favored tabular morphology in plutons that intruded during the building of a continental arc. The second phase (DC2, 573–535 Ma) produced an upright folding and contributed to further crustal thickening. The third phase of deformation (DC3, ranging between ∼535 and ∼480 Ma) resulted in an orogen-parallel dome with oblique extensional flow. DC1 represents the crustal growth and thickening stage. DC2 is synchronous with a period of crustal thickening that affected most of the Gondwanan periphery, from the most external sections (Cadomian fore-arc) to the inner ones (Cadomian back-arc). We explain DC2 as a consequence of flat subduction, which was followed by a period dominated by crustal extension (DC3) upon roll-back of the lower plate. The Ediacaran construction of the Cadomian Orogen (DC1 and DC2) requires ongoing subduction beneath Gondwana s.l., whereas its dismantlement during the Early Paleozoic is compatible with oblique, sinistral convergence.Projects PID2020-112489GB-C21 and PID2020-112489GB-C22, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/50110001103

Improving Authentication in the Amazon Alexa Virtual Assistant by Using a Geofence

Cursos e Congresos , C-155[Abstract] Amazon Alexa processes voice commands as input to help users perform tasks. For protecting this commands, Amazon Alexa implements some security measures. These security measures, such as voice recognition and user’s PIN, do not have the ability to mitigate replay attacks. In order to mitigate replay attacks, in this paper, we propose an authentication method based on Geofencing, consisting of (1) an Android application and (2) an Alexa Skill. By using the Android application, the user is able to configure a geofence near the Amazon Echo smart speaker. The developed Alexa Skill only accepts requests when the user is within the established geofence. This method mitigates replay attacks: an attacker could only try to use a replay attack when the legitimate user is close to the speaker, making it unfeasibleThis work was supported by the grant ED431C 2022/46 – Competitive Reference Groups GRC – funded by: EU and ”Xunta de Galicia” (Spain). Pt atoms adsorbed on TiO2(110)-(1 × 1) studied with noncontact atomic force microscopy and first-principles simulations

We have studied the local properties of single Pt atoms adsorbed on hydroxylated TiO2(110)-(1 × 1) by combining noncontact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) and first-principles calculations. Room-temperature high-resolution nc-AFM images for the most frequently observed contrast modes reveal bright and elongated protrusions that can be traced back to the Pt atoms, and that are centered on the fivefold coordinated titanium rows, confined between two bridging oxygen rows. These observations are in line with the theoretical results, as the lowest energy sites for the Pt atom on the TiO2(110) surface are in the neighborhood of the titanium rows, and high energy barriers have to be overcome to displace the Pt atom over the bridging oxygen rows. Single Pt atoms can be distinguished from H adsorbates (OH defects) due to their characteristic shape and binding site and, because they appear as the brightest surface features in all of the contrast modes. Force spectroscopy data over the protrusion and hole imaging modes and the corresponding tip-sample forces, simulated with O and OH terminated TiO2 nanoclusters, provide an explanation for this puzzling result in terms of the intrinsic strength of the interaction with the Pt adatom and the adatom and tip apex relaxations induced by the tip-sample interaction. These imaging mechanisms can be extended to other electropositive metal dopants and support the use of nc-AFM not only to characterize their adsorption structure but also to directly probe their chemical reactivityThis work was supported by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (No. 22221006, No. 25106002, No. 24360016, No. 26600099, No. 2600015, No. 26110516, and No. 20760024) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, Funding Program for Next Generation World-Leading Researchers and by the Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (MINECO, Spain) uder Projects No. MAT2011-23627, No. CSD2010-00024, and No. PLE2009-006
