Potential algebra approach to position dependent mass Schroedinger equation
It is shown that for a class of position dependent mass Schroedinger equation
the shape invariance condition is equivalent to a potential symmetry algebra.
Explicit realization of such algebras have been obtained for some shape
invariant potentials
A microbiological assay method for p-aminobenzoic acid
Since the establishment of p-aminobenzoic acid as a member of the B vitamin group, a considerable interest has been shown in methods of determination in natural materials. Since known chemical methods are not sufficiently sensitive, it became evident that microbiological tests should be the most practicable. The organism Clostridium acetobutylicum has been used (1) but no general assay procedure has been presented. Several bacterial strains which respond to p-aminobenzoic acid have been investigated in this laboratory, but satisfactory assay procedures with these organisms have not yet been devised.
For the discovery of the test organism used in the procedure described in this paper, we are indebted to Dr. Beadle and Dr. Tatum who kindly furnished us with a culture of their p-aminobenzoic acid requiring a mutant strain of Neurospora crassa, designated by them as Neurospora crassa p-aminobenzoicless No. 1633 (2). This mold will grow optimally on a medium consisting of inorganic salts, ammonium tartrate, sucrose, biotin, and p-aminobenzoic acid. For purposes of assay, however, it has proved advantageous to supplement this basal medium with natural extracts which are either naturally low in p-aminobenzoic acid or have been treated to remove it. With such a complex medium, the possibility of interference by toxic substances or stimulatory substances other than p-aminobenzoic acid which might be present in samples to be assayed is reduced to a minimum.
Since the completion of a considerable part of the experimental work described in this paper, microbiological assay methods for p-aminobenzoic acid have been published by Landy and Dicken (3) utilizing the organism Acetobacter suboxydans and by Lewis (4) using Lactobacillus arabinosus 17-5
Fragmentation of Positronium (Ps) in collision with Li ion
Fragmentation of ground state ortho Positronium (Ps) in collision with Li ion
(Li+) is studied in the framework of post collisional Coulomb distorted eikonal
approximation (CDEA) for the target elastic case . The present model takes
account of the two center effect on the ejected e which is crucial for a proper
description of the projectile ionization involving an ionic target. Both the
fully differential (TDCS) and the doubly differential (DDCS) cross sections
(energy spectra) are investigated at intermediate and high incident energies. A
broad distinct Electron loss peak (ELP) centered around v_e ~ v_p is noted in
the e energy spectrum in contrast to the sharp ELP for a heavy projectile. Two
salient features are noted in the present study: i) the shift of the e DDCS
peak (summed over e+ angles) towards higher ejection energy with respect to
half the residual energy of the system, ii) comparison of the e& e+ energy
spectra reflect a strong e - e+ asymmetry with respect to the ratio v_e/v_p =1
>. Both these features could be attributed to the post collisional two center
effect on the e due to its parent nucleus (e+) and the screened target ion .
Two different wave functions of the Li ion are chosen in order to test the
sensitivity of the present results with respect to the choice of the wave

EACOF: A Framework for Providing Energy Transparency to enable Energy-Aware Software Development
Making energy consumption data accessible to software developers is an
essential step towards energy efficient software engineering. The presence of
various different, bespoke and incompatible, methods of instrumentation to
obtain energy readings is currently limiting the widespread use of energy data
in software development. This paper presents EACOF, a modular Energy-Aware
Computing Framework that provides a layer of abstraction between sources of
energy data and the applications that exploit them. EACOF replaces platform
specific instrumentation through two APIs - one accepts input to the framework
while the other provides access to application software. This allows developers
to profile their code for energy consumption in an easy and portable manner
using simple API calls. We outline the design of our framework and provide
details of the API functionality. In a use case, where we investigate the
impact of data bit width on the energy consumption of various sorting
algorithms, we demonstrate that the data obtained using EACOF provides
interesting, sometimes counter-intuitive, insights. All the code is available
