The importance of pepsin‐like acid protease quantification in aquaculture studies: a revision of available procedures and presentation of a new protocol for its assessment
Assessing the activity of acid pepsin‐like protease is a common procedure in many biological, physiological and nutritional studies in gastric fish species. After reviewing the available literature on fish digestive acid proteases (stomach acid pepsin‐like proteases), especially those species of relevance for aquaculture purposes, published during a time span of ten years (2008–2018), authors detected some possible methodological and/or interpretative inconsistencies in this kind of studies when quantifying pepsin‐like enzymes. Thus, we concluded that special attention should be paid on the following issues when assessing digestive acid protease activity: (i) the proper preparation of stomach extracts, (ii) the use of the proper reaction conditions at the normal range of physiological pH and temperature values, and (iii) the proper quantification of the number of peptide bonds hydrolyzed for acid protease unit calculation. The implementation of these recommendations, and the proposal of more suitable (previously tested) methodological steps, will promote the standardization of acid pepsin‐like protease analytical procedures, as well as improve the reliability of comparative studies dealing with this proteolytic enzyme between different fish species of aquacultural importance.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Simultaneous retrieval of optical and geometrical parameters of multilayered turbid media via state-estimation algorithms
In the present paper we propose an implementation of the Kalman filter algorithm, which allows simultaneous recovery of the absorption coefficient, the reduced scattering coefficient and the thicknesses of multi-layered turbid media, with the deepest layer taken as semi-infinite. The approach is validated by both Monte Carlo simulations and experiments, showing good results in structures made up of four layers. As it is a Bayesian algorithm, prior knowledge can be included to improve the accuracy of the retrieved unknowns. One of the most promising applications of this approach is the capability of real-time monitoring of living organs by near infrared spectroscopy. In particular, determination of blood perfusion in the adult head is one of the desired goals, allowing continuous control of stroke patients. This demands accurate measurement of the optical properties, especially absorption, of the head layers, from scalp to the cortex.Fil: García, Héctor Alfredo. Key market values for bottled wine in an emerging market: product attributes or business strategy?
This article focuses on the emerging bottled Chilean red wine market and studies the main determinants of the consumer price of wine sold on the domestic market. A hedonic price function was estimated for a sample of 810 wines using a quantile regression (QR) model. The database contains three variables groups to explain price: objective variables (national, international, and vine quality designations), subjective variables (wine score), and business strategies used by wine producers.Postprint (author's final draft
Implementation of the extended Kalman filter for determining the optical and geometrical properties of turbid layered media by time-resolved single distance measurements
In this article we propose an implementation of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) for the retrieval of optical and geometrical properties in two-layered turbid media assuming a dynamic setting, where absorption of each layer was changed in different steps. Prior works implemented the EKF in frequency-domain with several pairs of light sources and detectors and for static parameters estimation problems. Here we explore the use of the EKF in single distance, time-domain measurements, together with a corresponding forward model. Results show good agreement between retrieved and nominal values, with rather narrow analytical credibility intervals, indicating that the recovery process has low uncertainty, especially for the absorption coefficients.Fil: Baez, Guido Rodrigo. Formalization of an enterprise ontology based on agents and contexts
Dissertação de mest., Engenharia Informática, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade do Algarve, 2011Communication it is a fundamental organizational aspect but not always easy to
achieve due to differences between the parts involved (distinct beliefs, backgrounds
and needs). Poor communication can lead the organization to several problems like
poor resource re-utilization, deficient inter-operability, underutilization of information,
among others. These communication problems are translated into information
flux problems (we do not use efficiently the information, we do not understand each
other and we do not define problems or propose solutions adequately). Addressing
these problems its crucial in every organization that understands the value that information
has.
Ontologies help us solve the previous situations. They provide a common understanding
of a conceptualization of the study object so they allow us to model the
study object and to describe it using the same language. Enterprise ontologies allow
us model an organization like the enterprise using a unambiguous and commonly
accepted terminology who define enterprise terms like activity, resource or process
with which we can represent enterprise operation and manage information efficiently.
Commonly, enterprise ontologies model formal elements of an organization, but since
enterprises are composed by parts of different nature, informal elements emerge and
create relations and different perspectives with respect to the rest of the enterprise
components.
This document study an agent based and context aware framework who encompasses
both, formal and informal element of the enterprise. This work results on
a formalized OWL ontology that will allow us to answer question with information
inferred from the model

Complete sequence of the genome of the human isolate of Andes virus CHI-7913: comparative sequence and protein structure analysis
Indexación: ScieloWe report here the complete genomic sequence of the Chilean human isolate of Andes virus CHI-7913. The S, M, and L genome segment sequences of this isolate are 1,802, 3,641 and 6,466 bases in length, with an overall GC content of 38.7%. These genome segments code for a nucleocapsid protein of 428 amino acids, a glycoprotein precursor protein of 1,138 amino acids and a RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of 2,152 amino acids. In addition, the genome also has other ORFs coding for putative proteins of 34 to 103 amino acids. The encoded proteins have greater than 98% overall similarity with the proteins of Andes virus isolates AH-1 and Chile R123. Among other sequenced Hantavirus, CHI-7913 is more closely related to Sin Nombre virus, with an overall protein similarity of 92%. The characteristics of the encoded proteins of this isolate, such as hydrophobic domains, glycosylation sites, and conserved amino acid motifs shared with other Hantavirus and other members of the Bunyaviridae family, are identified and discussed

Permission from IEEE must be obtained for all other uses, in any current or future media, including reprinting/republishing this material for advertising or promotional purposes, creating new collective works, for resale or redistribution to servers or lists, or reuse of any copyrighted component of this work in other worksThis paper proposes a Double Seasonal Holt-Winters (DSHW) forecasting model with an auxiliary Artificial Neural Network (ANN) trained with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to model the DSHW residuals. ANN complements and improves the DSHW prediction. The proposed model also includes an on-line validation and reconstruction mechanism useful to detect and correct missing and erroneous data. This mechanism also impacts improving the DSHW prediction accuracy and precision. The proposed model and validation mechanism are applied to predict the time series generated by two monitored flowmeters of two sectors of Barcelona's drinking water network (DWN). The accuracy and precision improvement of the proposed method with respect to standard DSHW and ARIMA approaches is provided.Accepted versio
