SiNx:Tb3+--Yb3+, an efficient down-conversion layer compatible with a silicon solar cell process
SiN x : Tb 3+-Yb 3+, an efficient down-conversion layer compatible with
silicon solar cell process Abstract Tb 3+-Yb 3+ co-doped SiN x down-conversion
layers compatible with silicon Photovoltaic Technology were prepared by
reactive magnetron co-sputtering. Efficient sensitization of Tb 3+ ions through
a SiN x host matrix and cooperative energy transfer between Tb 3+ and Yb 3+
ions were evidenced as driving mechanisms of the down-conversion process. In
this paper, the film composition and microstructure are investigated alongside
their optical properties, with the aim of maximizing the rare earth ions
incorporation and emission efficiency. An optimized layer achieving the highest
Yb 3+ emission intensity was obtained by reactive magnetron co-sputtering in a
nitride rich atmosphere for 1.2 W/cm and 0.15 W/cm power density
applied on the Tb and Yb targets, respectively. It was determined that
depositing at 200 {\textdegree}C and annealing at 850 {\textdegree}C leads to
comparable Yb 3+ emission intensity than depositing at 500 {\textdegree}C and
annealing at 600 {\textdegree}C, which is promising for applications toward
silicon solar cells.Comment: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, Elsevier, 201
Saint-Saturnin-du-Bois – Le Bourg nord

The Overlap Syndrome of Depression and Delirium in Older Hospitalized Patients
OBJECTIVES: To measure the prevalence, predictors, and posthospitalization outcomes associated with the overlap syndrome of coexisting depression and incident delirium in older hospitalized patients.
DESIGN: Secondary analysis of prospective cohort data from the control group of the Delirium Prevention Trial.
SETTING: General medical service of an academic medical center. Follow-up interviews at 1 month and 1 year post-hospital discharge.
PARTICIPANTS: Four hundred fifty-nine patients aged 70 and older who were not delirious at hospital admission.
MEASUREMENTS: Depressive symptoms assessed at hospital admission using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (cutoff score of 6 used to define depression), daily assessments of incident delirium from admission to discharge using the Confusion Assessment Method, activities of daily living at admission and 1 month postdischarge, and new nursing home placement and mortality determined at 1 year.
RESULTS: Of 459 participants, 23 (5.0%) had the overlap syndrome, 39 (8.5%) delirium alone, 121 (26.3%) depression alone, and 276 (60.1%) neither condition. In adjusted analysis, patients with the overlap syndrome had higher odds of new nursing home placement or death at 1 year (adjusted odds ratio (AOR)=5.38, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.57–18.38) and 1-month functional decline (AOR=3.30, 95% CI=1.14–9.56) than patients with neither condition.
CONCLUSION: The overlap syndrome of depression and delirium is associated with significant risk of functional decline, institutionalization, and death. Efforts to identify, prevent, and treat this condition may reduce the risk of adverse outcomes in older hospitalized patients
DECONbench: a benchmarking platform dedicated to deconvolution methods for tumor heterogeneity quantification
Quantifcation of tumor heterogeneity is essential to better understand cancer progression and to adapt therapeutic treatments to patient specifcities. Bioinformatic tools to assess the diferent cell populations from single-omic datasets as bulk transcriptome or methylome samples have been recently developed, including reference-based and reference-free methods. Improved methods using multi-omic datasets are yet to be developed in the future and the community would need systematic tools to perform a comparative evaluation of these algorithms on controlled data

Saturation of CVD Diamond Detectors
A 5 x 0.25 mm Chemical Vapor Deposited (CVD) diamond detector, with a voltage bias of + 250V, was excited by a 400 nm laser (3.1 eV photons) in order to study the saturation of the wafer and its surrounding electronics. In a first experiment, the laser beam energy was increased from a few tens of a pJ to about 100 µJ, and the signal from the diamond was recorded until full saturation of the detection system was achieved. Clear saturation of the detection system was observed at about 40 V, which corresponds with the expected saturation at 10% of the applied bias (250V). The results indicate that the interaction mechanism of the 3.1 eV photons in the diamond (Ebandgap = 5.45 eV) is not a multi-photon process but is linked to the impurities and defects of the crystal. In a second experiment, the detector was irradiated by a saturating first laser pulse and then by a delayed laser pulse of equal or smaller amplitude with delays of 5, 10, and 20 ns. The results suggest that the diamond and associated electronics recover within 10 to 20 ns after a strong saturating pulse
Deletion of Nkx2-5 in trabecular myocardium reveals the developmental origins of pathological heterogeneity associated with ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy.
Left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is a rare cardiomyopathy associated with a hypertrabeculated phenotype and a large spectrum of symptoms. It is still unclear whether LVNC results from a defect of ventricular trabeculae development and the mechanistic basis that underlies the varying severity of this pathology is unknown. To investigate these issues, we inactivated the cardiac transcription factor Nkx2-5 in trabecular myocardium at different stages of trabecular morphogenesis using an inducible Cx40-creERT2 allele. Conditional deletion of Nkx2-5 at embryonic stages, during trabecular formation, provokes a severe hypertrabeculated phenotype associated with subendocardial fibrosis and Purkinje fiber hypoplasia. A milder phenotype was observed after Nkx2-5 deletion at fetal stages, during trabecular compaction. A longitudinal study of cardiac function in adult Nkx2-5 conditional mutant mice demonstrates that excessive trabeculation is associated with complex ventricular conduction defects, progressively leading to strain defects, and, in 50% of mutant mice, to heart failure. Progressive impaired cardiac function correlates with conduction and strain defects independently of the degree of hypertrabeculation. Transcriptomic analysis of molecular pathways reflects myocardial remodeling with a larger number of differentially expressed genes in the severe versus mild phenotype and identifies Six1 as being upregulated in hypertrabeculated hearts. Our results provide insights into the etiology of LVNC and link its pathogenicity with compromised trabecular development including compaction defects and ventricular conduction system hypoplasia
The authors base their reflection on the common assumption that the growing importance of the “living issue” in post-industrial societies compels them to focus their investigation on: 1) the point of view of the resident, from which they must try to define the “cultures of nature”, the representations of the value of the place and the categories through which each individual relates to his “geographicity”; 2) the categories of the rural and the urban whose confrontation is likely to evidence the qualities and properties of any European-based “milieu”. The authors then synthetise the data provided by the narratives collected in their own fields of investigation. They can thus formulate a common question and methodology in order to reflect on what “living” means today in the representations and practices of country people and city dwellers. The contradiction between the home considered and experienced as a shelter or “inside” and the home seen as an appropriation of the margins and integration of the discontinuity of the “outside” is a strong distinctive principle to head towards a typology of the “ways of living”
